HELP PLEASE: Feedburner Feeds Bringing 404 Errors!

by magentawave 5 replies
Hi,

I'm about to put a bunch of feeds into RSSBot but have a couple questions please. To set this up, here is what is going on:

a) I burned this feed at Feedburner: http://www.mysite.com/feed/

b) If I click on that feed link above or paste it into a browser, it will take me to an error 404 page and then the url changes to this in my browser address bar: http://feeds.feedburner.com/MySite -- and it says the following on the page:

.................................................. .................................................. ...............

There has been an error of some kind. Ack!

FeedBurner could not deliver this feed to you because of the specific problem listed below:

Feed Address: http://feeds.feedburner.com/MySite
HTTP Error (Code) and Message: (404) Feed not found error: FeedBurner cannot locate this feed URI.

What can I do about this?

  • If you are a potential or current subscriber, contact the publisher to notify them that their feed content is not available. This may be temporary problem that requires their intervention to resolve, or the publisher may have permanently removed the feed from FeedBurner.
  • If you are the publisher of this feed, sign into FeedBurner and visit your feed's "Troubleshootize" tab to view FeedMedic, our automated diagnostic report for your feed. A cause for the problem, and tips for troubleshooting it, may be found there.
.................................................. .................................................. ...............

c) Meanwhile, back at my Feedburner account: If I click on "edit feed details" for the above feed ( http://www.mysite.com/feed/ ), it says the following for that same feed:

Feed Title: MySite.com (Helps you identify your feed)

Original Feed: http://www.mysite.com/feed/atom/ (Feed published on your site)

Feed Address: http://feeds.feedburner.com/mysite/cIiI (Your feedburner feed)

And here are my questions please:

1) Why does http://www.mysite.com/feed/ bring an error 404 page to this http://feeds.feedburner.com/MySite ?

2) Since the "Original Feed" (according to Feedburner) http://www.mysite.com/feed/ brings an error 404 page but the "Your Feedburner feed" (again, according to Feedburner) url http://feeds.feedburner.com/mysite/cIiI works perfectly, is http://feeds.feedburner.com/mysite/cIiI the url I should be using to put into RSSBot?

Thanks very much!
Steve

      Hi!

Maybe you already know this but have you checked so that the feedburner adress does not have any empty space before the text "mysite", like this
/ mysite? This error alway happen to me when I copy the feedburner adress. Don't know why, but I always need to correct it.

Another thing that I thinking of is that the theme you are using (I assume it's wordpress) has some error. In that case you could try to download a plugin called "Fix Rss". It has solve many problems for me!

      Good luck

But don't you find that Feedburner adds a few more characters to the end of that feed kind like this: htp://feeds.feedburner.com/mysite/clil Just asking because that is what they have done to all my feeds.

because feedburner gives me this url as the one to submit. It seems to work just fine.
        .................................................. ..............................................

I see what you mean by the space and I have been careful of that, but both what Feedburner calls my "Original Feed" and "The feed published on my site" which is http://www.mysite.com/feed/atom/ and the feed Feedburner creates, which Feedburner calls "My Feed Address") http://feeds.feedburner.com/mysite/clil are bring back that nasty 404 error.

Thanks for the suggestion about using the Fix RSS plugin but I think I will pass on it for now after reading so many problems people were having after activating it.

I didn't have these problems before Google bought Feedburner.

        Thanks
        Steve

UPDATE: Well now this feed is working after I pinged it in Feedburner: http://feeds.feedburner.com/mysite/cIiI but then I tried pinging
http://www.mysite.com/feed/atom/ and Feedburner gives me this error:

          .................................................. .................................................. ...
          Ping FeedBurner

Your Ping resulted in an Error "We were unable to process your ping. You must ping with a URL that exactly matches the channel link (RSS) or alternate link (Atom) in your top level feed element pointing back to your website (e.g Escape Velocity), or use your feed URL (e.g. http://feeds.feedburner.com/myuri)."

          .................................................. .................................................. ...

Also, when I click on the little blue RSS feed button located to the right of my blog url in my browsers address bar, it brings back the same 404 error page I mentioned in my first thread above. I wonder if anyone else is having these problems and what they did to fix it?
