Meta Keywords???? Help!

Ok, I have 2 questions, for the warrior forum.

1. Should I use the same meta keywords on every page in my website?

2. When I am searching my keywords in google keyword search what is a good number. Should I use words and phrases that have 5,000 to 10,000 views from the previous month of should I go for the keywords that have been viewed 40,000 to 100,000 a month? All of the keywords and phrases from the 5K to 100K range are very similar just some are viewed more.

Thanks

    1. Probably not. You can target a different key-phrase on every page, to multiply your opportunities for search traffic visitors.

    2. A lot depends on your competition. You will need to do some analysis to evaluate your chances of ranking high in google searches. It is pointless to target a keyword with 200,000 searches, if you land on page 52 of the search results. A search of 5,000 could be great if you are in the top 3 results of page 1...

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

    Joe,
I highly recommend you check out Free SEO Book: Read SEO Fast Start by Dan Thies There's a free (if you sign up) ebook there on SEO that rocks.

The answer to #1 is while most search engines don't pay as much attention to meta keywords, they still have some value. So its recommended that you do use different, appropriate key words and phrases on each page of your site. Don't use the same on each page.

#2. is not a straight forward answer and does depend on a variety of items. The above mention site has some very good information on finding/researching/and using keywords and phrases.

Finally - are you in Greensboro NC? If so a great guy named Hans Klien has a monthly meetup there in the Triad each month. You can see a thread in this forum at:

Welcome to the forum and if there's anything I can do to help just let me know.

There's a lot you need to learn about the issues you bring up. It's more complex than simple answers can give you. Jack's advice to get Dan Thies's SEO book is a great start. Can't go wrong there.

Re: keyword meta tags. IMO a complete waste of time. Might have been useful 5 years ago... probably not now. Description meta tag = definitely still useful. If not for search engine rankings (I think it might help a tiny bit, but some say not at all any longer), then because Google will usually use what you put in the Description Tag as the blurb appearing below your listing in the rankings. It's your little one or two sentence chance to convince a searcher to hit your link.

Your question about keywords is tougher to answer. Only you can decide how much work you want to put into a website. For some, the idea of going after a really competitive keyword that gets a ton of searches is worth the time and effort and waiting possibly months or even years to rank highly. For most newer marketers, you get quicker, less expensive results chasing the keywords that get fewer searches (if they also have less competition, which is not always the case). And those factors don't even begin to address the critically important points about the nature of the keywords themselves. Some will provide you with what we call "buying" traffic - people ready to buy something. Other keywords might bring you a lot of traffic when you rank for them, but big deal - they might be tire kickers and not ready to place an order.

So you don't really get a simple answer here, even though you wanted one. Sorry!

    John
