My wordpress web site is regularly getting spam comments even though I have not allowed for comments. Could someone please tell me how to stop this? As a newbie I don't know how to control this any more than what I have already done. Thanks.

Have you tried installing the Akismet plugin?

Yes, the Akismet plugin is very helpful for preventing spam. Also, you can choose to moderate all comments before publishing them in your WP admin panel.

That is why I like Akismet. I haven't tried the spam-free plugin, so I can't say which one is better.

I use WP-Spamfree as well, it works really well.Sometimes it puts legitimate comments in the spam folder so it is a good idea to check the spam folder once in a while.

Akisment should work for you. You may also remove the "URL" field so spammers will not waste their time.

You may be allowing comments at the post level. The setting is both in settings, and at the bottom of each post.

I use Akismet and Bad Behavior together - the combination does a great job for me.
