$150 In Free Google Adwords - What's The Catch?

I've gotten a couple of "coupons" in the mail over the last few days from Hostgator and another one of the hosts I use equalling $150.

After reading everything, it appears that I can use the coupons until the $150 runs out and then go on with life.

But I've learned over the years that free doesn't ALWAYS mean free.

Has anyone else taken advantae of these coupons, and if so, was there a catch?

Allen

I haven't used one recently but I've gotten them before and did exactly what you said - used 'em up and went on with my life.

I've used several of the coupons and had no problems.

The slight catch may be that some/many of the coupons require you to create a new account in order to use them. In creating a new account, you will have to put down a $10 activation fee into your account using your credit card (or other method). Unless you select the option to prepay, you will be charged extra if you go over the limit.

    Hope that helps!

Yes I did. I got $100 coupon from Google in free PPC Money. There was a $5 activation fee which they deducted from the $100 and you have to give them your CC number.

I would never have played with PPC since I hadn't had time to study it, but the coupon was tempting and ready to expire. Anyway I gave it a shot and it worked out for both Google and me. Lets put it this way I owe Google money now and the $100 is long gone but I made quite a bit! And I am continuing the campaign.

I got several coupons in the mail from hostgator 6 months ago and they still sit right here... I have no use or need for the evil google clicks...

The catch is they want your info, your bank info, you to forget about the account so they can continue to charge it ...

It's Google Adwords, not Adsense. They give out free coupons to try and entice new advertisers to join their program, and hope that once you're done with the coupon you'll like it enough to continue using it. Kind of like a free trial. The $5 activation fee is generally taken out of the 'free' balance, but you'll have to use a real credit card to activate it.

As long as you set your max $ per day at a reasonable amount and check it at least once a day (while you're on the free balance) you'll be fine.

If you plan to use it up, then watch is closely and cancel on time. Years ago I did that with the same intention, didn't catch it before it ran out and I ended up paying out money to them I had no intention on paying out but did so for my failure to cancel fast enough (fortunately not a ton).

You mean adwords... They're not the only ones that release these coupons.
Several other advertising companies do the same.

    The catch?

They charge you when the free money from that coupon dies.
Also, some people will be hesitant to throw in money into these
networks without knowing how the system works.

But they will be much less hesitant if they're allowed
    to try it for free.

return address of a hosting company.

So are you guys saying that I can use all of the coupons sent to me?

Because Hostgator sent me 22 yesterday. I was going to get on the phone in the morning and have a chat with them about filling my mailbox.

Maybe I'll see what $2000 in Adwords will get me.

Just kidding. I might have been born at night but it wasn't last night.

    Back to the phone call.

And people complain about getting an email

Sounds reasonable if you are going to stay on it and cancel in time.

Google already has all my info, so giving that up really isn't a problem - may as well take advantage of it.

    Thanks!
