Article Marketing or Forum Marketing?

I'm curious to hear what has worked better for you.

I find that if the niche I choose is particularly interesting, I do more forum marketing and get more traffic with that. However, article marketing has proven effective as well - but it is more tedious and time consuming.

Which one do you think is "better"? (I understand that it may be hard to generalize the meaning of better, but just share an honest opinion to get the ball rolling.)

This exact same question was here a week ago, but here's my opinion: both. In certain niches, one will do better than the other, but they will almost always both perform at least a little bit. I personally like forum marketing better (I know, sounds crazy coming from me) just because there's some social interaction to it :-)

I apologize for the repetition. I only joined recently (less than a week ago) and wanted to see a fresh take on things.

You do both at the same time.

Write good forum posts and then turn them into blog posts if they're short and full articles if they're long. Or, put several similar forum posts together to make an article.

That way you're participating in a forum and at the same time you're writing content for your next article.

Here's an article I wrote all about that:

PS - And of course, this post is an example of combining forum marketing and article marketing!
Ah, I really like this approach...I think I may try this!

Article Marketing needs patience, great articles and visitors to your articles. Forum marketing requires even more patience, good image of your profile to see you are not spamming and some nice looking posts/signatures. Both are more or less equivalent. For me though, article marketing will have an edge over the latter.

Bur for article marketing, you only need to concentrate a few hours on writing the article and then submitting it.
All good points, but it may help to view both as not only tools but also
means of investment. In both you're required to invest your time. When
you think about it, both do not take much time to implement; however,
high quality articles will require more time than forum posting.

But they represent ongoing investments of your time. The best and most
successful article marketers have spent a lot of time writing and submitting
    articles - months and years.

Just ask Steve Wagenheim or Dean Shainin.

It's not hard work, but it does require commitment and perseverance.

Forum marketing is so far works best for me. It is the easiest and cheapest way to drive traffic to your site and it will also increase sale.

I personally use forum marketing more than article marketing.

For me both have given results.

I feel forums have more life than blogs have. It is more interactive I should say. But in terms of result, I dont see any major difference and so very hard to say which one is better.

I prefer article marketing and it can really bring in traffic on a consistent basis every single day if you know how to rank your articles well.

Forum marketing is also another great way of getting traffic but i find to do it correctly you need to learn from people that are really using it effectively. Dont go spamming and you have to really spend your time giving out good answers that shows that you are an authority in your niche. You will also get bombarded back with more questions that you should be ready to answer.

Do both and see which one suits your personality also.

I have enjoyed forum marketing, but can it produce the same results as article marketing in terms of traffic and sales?

Forum marketing involves a little bit of time each day.

Article marketing involves a lot of time once.

Both can be very effective and I've found that it often depends on the niche you're involved with. I know that for the video game niche, I found forum marketing MUCH more effective than article marketing. However, for most niches, I do believe article marketing (done correctly) brings in more traffic and sales.

Would someone please go into some detail about what is involved in Forum Marketing? Is it the same as signing up for lots of forums and making sure you have page links in your profile, or is there something else involved?

Are you selective about the types of forums you get involved in, or does anything go?

        Thanks!

Article Marketing definitely... Any "forum marketing" method I have ever really seen is nothing but glorified "board spamming"

Sure you can outsource someone in India to register and post to forums with links to your sites in the signature line or in the posts itself...

From my experience "forum posts" get deleted real easy if they are suspected to be spam and they are not very viral... But Article marketing, if the articles are well written and unique get indexed fairly quickly and tend to be a little more viral since people use them as content on their sites based on key words...

But again with anything else test, track, and tweak

But don't take my word for it...I'm not a "guru" nor do I have any desire to be a "guru"

          Thanks

Don't decide on one or the other. Do both. You will
find that successful marketers do both.

You can outsourse both for a small cost.

Both have the same benefits. Exposure for your
          company or product.

both are good especially when used together.BUT

i believe that with forum marketing you have to have strong presence before your sig can command good attention and besides you have to invest time to continously stay in the forum

but with article marketing what you need is just some few hours /minutes depending on how good you are at writing.whatever you have written, submitted and is published live is all the time you need for investing.

A lot of people think forum marketing is merely just going to a forum and then spam the heck with good content and then finally linking back to your site...

    That's the old-style marketing!

    Here's a tip...

    Go into the forum...

Release a free PDF report and put your link on the last page or on the footer of the eBook...

    Let it go viral.

    Done.

Most forums do allow you to share content because they know it's beneficial to the forum members. As long as you are providing top quality content and does not ask for opt in or appear too "sales-ly" -- you should be fine.

ng actually requires you have a strong presence in the forum. and this might be very demanding considering the time you have to invest in posting on the forum to get your sig well known

but with article marketing you only have to use just some few hours or minutes depending on how good you are to write some good quality articles and thats all.

Although article marketing takes longer to create the content it has more of a viral effect when people pick it up an use it on their sites. If it's good content that people are looking for then you could be getting visitors for months and even years to come.

    Just my opinion

Why not use both? I do not think that it has to be an either/or question. Write some article for certain keywords within your niche, post some blog comments linking back to your article, social bookmark your article, and generate some high PR links to your articles and they have a chance of getting ranked high on the first page of Google.

Forum marketing is also great because it gives you the chance to interact with the community and offer solutions to people who need them. If you can help someone who is reading your post, then chances are they just may sign up for your newsletter or purchase a product or service from you. The key with forum marketing is to make sure that you don't SPAM, and just give good information!

It think those that use only forum marketing or only article marketing are really limiting their ability to truly stand out within a niche. Use a combination and you should see some nice results.

I am a newbie in the field. So far, i do not get much luck in forum marketing - maybe i have yet to know the 'secret' to that. I really do not spam, i just answer posts, but after a day or two, my posts were deleted.

So i guess, i will just stick with article marketing...

Article marketing works better than forum marketing. Forum marketing will give you a steady stream of traffic that is not that big but it is consistent. Consistent article marketing can bring you many visitors on a daily basis if done properly. I would definitely use both methods but since you asked for an either or scenario I would choose article marketing.

You do what you're good at.

If you're good at article marketing, you do that.

If you're good at forum participation, you do that.

If you can do both well, you do both.

Both can be very effective. It isn't one or the other. You're looking for what's
      the most effective method.

      Doesn't exist.

A person who can't write his way out of a paper bag has no business
      writing articles.

A person who doesn't know how to contribute to a forum to earn trust
has no business spending his time doing that unless it's strictly to learn
from others. And then you have to balance that against the total time
      you spend on your business.

Ultimately, it's not one or the other, but you have to figure out what's
      best for you.
