Musician Warriors: Best Marketing Ideas

I'm sure there are many Musician IMers on this forum... I thought I'd see if we could share experiences, ideas and success stories...

This thread should be broad... but I'll start by asking: From the stand point of someone new coming from the music or entertainment industry into IM, How can one best use their skills? What's working out there?

You can make a product on your own and sell it or get affiliates to sell it for you. I was thinking about doing this in the future. If you are a good musician just make a video product on how to play guitar/piano or whatever. It really isnt that difficult or expensive but it will take a bit of time to finish.

Make it unique and remember that video marketing this can be fantastic because i see some people on youtube getting a huge amount of views if you can impress them with your playing. Still big money in that niche if you make a unique product and promote it correctly.

Our best success has come from a site called Reverb Nation, www.reverbnation.com where they have like a one stop shop for msicians, and ONLY musicians & music. There are active fans, more than 400,000 artists globally, and labels & venues as well. They provide a free service with small fees for extras like Press Release kits, Marketing and other concepts.

In the 4 months I have had Ethan on there www.reverbnation.com/ethan2rock we have gone to number 1 on the local charts for both rock and all genres, and number 3 in the country for all genres. We have amassed more than 5000 fans now, and this site interacts with both Myspace and Facebook, along with Bebo and others.

If you would like any assistance with your efforts PM me and I will see how I might be able to assist.

Nick, there is a great video on youtube from a guy called guitar90 and his video has had 69 million views. He plays Canon on the electric guitar and people are amazed and then click on his affiliate link on the side.

He's making killer sales and imagine if he had his own product out. Wow !!
Those types of vids in that niche go viral very quickly.

Yes I could see where video can be very powerful for musicians...

Here's some examples of music industry guys doing fantastic things with online marketing...

Bob Baker - www.TheBuzzFactor.com - I think this fellow was also able to parlay his info marketing skills into a professorship a the world renowned Berklee School of Music.

David Hooper - www.MusicMarketing.com - This young guy out of Nashville has a killer podcast series where he interviews the most amazing guests... No fluff stuff for gigging musicians, real road warrior secrets...

I was also wondering if any Musician IMers go out of their niche successfully... I thought some might be active in this forum.
