Honest opinions and advice on mailing list for parenting site

INTERNET MARKETING

Although I've been designing websites on and off since 1994, I have only very recently discovered Wordpress and recently created this site www Dadhints com

My main aim is to build a mailing list of parents, send a weekly email newsletter of helpful hints and tips and then occasionally recommend a suitable product or two that I'll make a small commission on via an affiliate site.

I am now thinking I might be better off just having a landing page / sales letter instead of a blog type site (such as those by Jason Keith) - I have just had a 3000 word guide to perfect parenting written that I am planning on giving in exchange for an email sign up.

I can then concentrate in promoting the one page and writing the email newsletter.

What do you guys think? All advice gratefully received.

If you have the time and resources I recommend building a community around your particular niche.

One of the best ways to do this is to build a blog with lots of free content that is valuable to your readers. As you add value to your blog and as word gets out you will get more and more traffic to it. At the same time you will be building a relationship of trust with your readers. This will make it easy to get people to opt in to your e-mail list because they trust you.

You can also use your blog as an advertising platform; just don't overdo it. I typically like to have one or two small and inconspicuous advertisements on my blog.

Hi

I would keep the blog and have the sales page too as they all add up in building your brand in the parenting niche.

Use your blog as an ideal way of building traffic and have them both linking to one another. Its a great way of getting great seo backlinks via deeplinking.

Then you can also have the free ebook as a pop up on your blog and a page on your blog that forwards to the sales page.
