OH MY! I am so OVERWHELMED!!

I am so excited to learn about all this IM stuff, but wow! There is so much! I really thought this would be so super easy! It is not easy at all! I am kind of losing hope and ground here.

I have been putting my heart and soul into my daily activities, trying to build any kind of income, but I feel like I am just going in circles!

I originally thought I could offer freelance work, and make enough to keep food on the table, NOPE.

So then I started this forum posting business, it only allows a part time income for me, but at this point I would be happy with anything.

To make matters worse, my son is sick, and my car's transmission just quite.

How did you all do it? Maybe I am simply not smart enough or cut from the same cloth as all of you.

If you were me, how would you make your first dollar online?

Thanks and sorry for the rant, It is just so darn frustrating and scary not be able to earn anything.

I feel your pain, I thought it was easy too, but it's a long learning curve. I'll be glad to share anything that I find out that will help.

I would use the search button first to get information about where do I exactly want to get into, like CPA, PPC, Adsense, Selling services here etc. Spend some time here and learn and most importantly apply to make that dollar !

I know you are having a bad time, but believe me, the best part of a bad time is that it doesn't last long !! Keep

What kind of freelance work did you try, and where did you promote your services?

Provide a little more detail about your business plan so the forum users can offer specific advice.--Greg

    OK I'll have a go ...

    1. Find a Hungry Market
    2. Find out what they Want/What problems they face
    3. Create a product that solves a problem
    4. Create a Blog
    5. Create a Sales Page (learn copywriting)
    6. Link to your Sales Page from your Blog
    7. Get an autoresponder
    8. Create a great free course (offer a free book for a sign-up from the Blog)
    9. Deliver the course via autoresponder and recommend your product in the course (pre-sell)
    10. Get Blogging
    11. Promote your Blog (Social Bookmarking, pinging, link-building, articles)
    12. Keep at #10 & #11 until you see results

That will work if you are determined and persistent. If you get stuck on any of the steps, just ask here.

    Will

PS And if it isn't working, you need to tweak the hell out of it until it does.

Son sick and car transmission dying, I am sure I read this on here before?

Anyway, on point, if it was so easy, would the whole world not be working four hours a day and watching the paypal emails dropping onto their blackberry?

kcclark, thank you, it truly is frustrating, I surely hope it gets easier.

Dexter007, Thank you, I will start searching the forums. I know this place is full of wonderful resources. If I could just get my head together and actually put the information to good use.

gsport11, I offered forum posting, and I did the marketing in forums and social book mark sites. I eventually would love to start a direct marketing company, but that is just a dream once I get comfortable with online marketing.

Will, wow great information, but it all seems so much easier in your post then what it really is. My biggest question how do I find my market??

Jazbo, I'm not sure if your post is meant to be rude, but my bad fortune is not something I find humorous or even interesting. I know bad things happen, and I know many people have it way worse than I do. You are right, if it was easy, we would all be at home, checking our paypals periodically and living wonderfully. However I have not been blessed to have that happen just yet.

NO it was not meant to be rude. I asked a simple question as I had deja vu about someone else saying the same thing on here about a month ago.

As for the paypal bit, you said "I though it would be easy". I was pointing out that you should never, ever have assumed that for blindingly obvious reasons.

If I were to give you some advice it would be stay focused. Pick your plan and then run with it. It might not be the one that you will find that will eventually make your fortune but you have to give IM enough time to start earning some money. If you can put together some articles for niches, you can earn money that way. You can also offer to make posts for warriors or ask if there is a service that the warriors are willing to pay for.

Don't get frustrated or down on yourself. Life is just like that... something is always happening but there are places in time that will provide you solace and the money you require to do what you need to do. If you have a marketing plan in place, then you are halfway there.

I learned a lesson that says, find your customers first and then provide the customers with what they need. This is sometimes the opposite of what many sales letters offer. They sell you the product and then they hit you with "All you need to do is send traffic to the site to get paid"

So find a need and fill it. Good luck to you,

Rob, I have thought of starting micro sites, but I have no money for hosting or domains. So my question is how do you really get started when you have NO MONEY to really start anything??

    Anyone know?

To make a start then, find some free hosting. Most of it sucks and you have to put up with ads or build up points but there is one which is kind of Ok and ad-free: byethost.com. Their paid hosting is very good at about $3/month so you could upgrade to that as & when you are earning (they help you with transfers etc)

Domains: look for offers. Either use a free subdomain of the free hosting account or you can get a .info for $3 or $4 at the moment.

Neither of these options are ideal, but at least you can get a start.

Thanks. It's a site I'm building up for my wife to take over. I honestly can't take credit for the design. I purchased the blog design from a fellow member here. The only thing I'm doing is customizing it and adding content.

For whatever it's worth, I have been in your shoes and know exactly how you feel regarding being overwhelmed. I've made a TON of mistakes along the way (and still do), but I've learned a ton and I'm on the right track now.

If you want to email me, I'll be glad to share my experiences in more detail. I'm sure I can point you in the right direction, especially if you want a site that looks like mine.

Nonsense. Nobody is born knowing how to market online, just as nobody is born knowing how to repair plumbing or how to rebuild a transmission.

It is not "get rich quick," and it does have a steep learning curve. That's okay, just get started learning. We all started with a blank slate. Now it's your turn to learn.

Despite what you've probably heard from the "guru's" making money online takes a lot of work, a lot. There is a lot of free stuff out there and even good deals but lets face it you will have to spend money, period.

You have gotten some good advice already. I don't know if you have a regular job but you may need one to pay for internet marketing costs. I have an actual business (non internet) and recently started an internet business. My actuall monthly costs just for my non internet business just to have a business is about $2000 a month. (That doesn't include salaries) That's insurance, rents, advertising, phone expenses, etc. etc....

My point is you will have costs in any type of business. Also, as someone else has already said IM is a business treat it like one. Get up early and work late. Will Edwards above gave some great advice on what to do. Start with that. The only real thing on his list that will cost you money to start is an auto responder if you don't already have one. If you don't have one you need one if you are serious about this business. The rest of it is a lot of "effort" getting a product and doing the rest of the things he said.

One other thing, be disciplined, don't get distracted by email, surfing the net, even surfing this forum for to long. Get down to building a successful business.

That was my "pre game locker room" pep talk. Now get out there and do it!

One of the most common misconceptions about internet marketing is that "It will be easy".It will get easier for every day, but you need to spend a lot of time writing, reading and most of all taking notes and learning what works from those who are already successful. It will get tedious but if you stick to it and work every day, I promise you will get results!

Go to Associated Content, or some other site that pays for articles, and write a bunch of articles about sports venues, eating establishments, and sites of interest in your home town.

They'll pay $3-$5 per article, and a bit of money if the article gets recurring search engine traffic.

Use that experience to learn how to write SEO-friendly articles, but DON'T sell them articles that are in the niche you hope to enter. Save those articles for yourself.

Once you make $100 dollars, use it to get one or several websites online. You should get your own hosting account via GoDaddy or some other provider. You can also use free hosts like Blogger and Wordpress, but this shouldn't take the place of developing your own web properties.

Start writing content for your websites. Put your best stuff on your own sites, and fill the free sites with easily-produced content like links to YouTube vids with a few paragraphs of your thoughts about the video. Hopefully, you'll be in a buying niche, because you will want to make some money from it eventually.

It will be difficult to rank in the search engines for buying keywords that have been around for a while. But if you find one that is new -- like the hottest new Christmas toy or the latest fashion being worn by some Hollywood star -- you can jump the gun and get it ranked before the people who only rely on the Google keyword tool.

That's how to get started and make some sites that will last. If you have any valuable skills (like good, fast writing skills), put them to use!

    Good luck.

Write. Your posts are grammatically correct and easy to read. You have a good writing style.

Offer to write free articles for 5/10 warriors so you can get some reviews. Then add a line to your signature offering article writing services.

If you can afford it, post in the warriors for hire section.

Warriors are always looking for good content writers.

Wow you asked a difficult question. The reason I say this is because you will get as many different ways to make money as there will be posts

The best advice I ever received, and the hardest, find ONE person you can have confidence in and follow them.

Read through the forum, if you are mot in the private area sign up, it is well worth it.

There are a ton of people on here who make a lot of money. find one that you like and stick with them until that system starts making money.

THEN!!!!! move on to something new and shiny. Just focus on one thing at a time.

    Good luck to you.

I started off in too many direction and also got a little overwhelmed. I decided to focus on establishing one or two website businesses and then go back to some of the other businesses that I started, but got too overwhelmed on. Stone's daily step by step emails has been a godsend on helping me stay focused.

Put your blinders on and just do it one step at a time. Some days you'll only do one or two steps, others five or six, and then there are those days of nothingness. Be positive. It'll happen.

OVERWHELMED!! Well! I think that is a good sign. Why? Because it means you have have a lot of thing on your brains and it is called knowledge. And knowledge is an asset. You just need to pick the right knowledge that suit your personality, make a plan of attack and take persistent action on them.

IM is too general to begin with. It is like trying to sell something in wet fish market. If you have big boat you can go deep fishing and comeback and selling 'big fish'. But you can't sell big fish to a family of 6 who has just enough fund to have sardines for dinner.

So basically IM is about connecting the right people with the right asset you have. If you want to sell junk, find people who like junks otherwise those people would hate your junk and curse you. And no business would survive after being curse.

Type of personality and skill play an important role. So don't try to do something that is not you just because other people are making money doing it.

      Hope that helps a bit.

Hang in there. Most of us have gone through the same tough learning curve. Life long learning is the appropriate line here. It gets better in time, just keep applying and trying and experimenting. Something will click and you'll know, especially when you have the first buck online. You know it can be done! Good Luck!

There's so many areas and so much to learn yet you are limined by your budgets constraints, right? Thinking you can make a forture on a budget of nothing is unrealistic but think you can make a small amount of money with no budget IS realistic.

I suggest you go out there and do the forum posting that you were considering for a part time income to generate the funds you need to start a paid marketing campaign.

This will star the 'snowball effect' but it won't happen over night so keep at it and don't give up.

First thing I suggest you do is figure out what you currently have that you can bring to the table. Do you have money to invest? do you have time? are you good at writing? are you good with creating websites? Figure out your strengths and then look for a proven model that embodies your abilities (it's okay if it has stuff that you can do since u can outsource stuff after a while).

Once you find that model just start to learn about that model and only that model. Practice everything you learn and focus on building a long term business over a short term.

Keep at it and I am sure you will make money. Your first mistake so far is thinking that it would be easy. It isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be hard either.

    Good luck to you
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1757084].message }}
  • It's not easy at all, and it takes time. It took me about seven months to hit my first $100 day -- and another four months after that to have another one -- and this was after lots and lots and lots of work. Those time periods between $100 days keep getting shorter and shorter, though, if you have the will to keep after it and the brains to learn from your mistakes.

There are a lot of things to learn, but you do learn them unless you're just a fool. You don't seem to be a fool.

On that note, the question to ask yourself is not, "How can I get the Internet to spit money at me like a perpetually paying slot machine?" but "How can I help people?" "What can I offer to do that people either can't do for themselves or don't want to do for themselves?" Once you answer that, you're halfway there.

Given your situation, I would strongly urge you to focus the bulk of your initial efforts on "offline" activities. Make some flyers that say, "I will clean your windows" or whatever it is you're going to do for people. Go door-to-door in your neighborhood until you get some takers. Pay your bills, take care of your son. Get your transmission fixed. Burn the midnight oil and figure out this online thing. Do that for a year or two and you'll be in good shape.

    But answer that question first.
