Intact Earnings Affiliate Network plus Virus Scan Alert

I signed up to promote one publisher (Vista Print .ca) with intactearnings.com. When I login to the site and try to view some of the publishers website links to join programs, I get a scary looking Virus Alert page that refused to let me exit the page, or go on the to publisher's page that I was trying to access. It tells me my computer is infected with a trojan whatever.

However, my computer is a Mac and I don't even have any of these programs on it. Also, my antivirus software is up-to-date and my computer, to the best of my knowledge, is clean.

Here is the url that comes up in the browser location bar:

http://smart-3-antispyware.com/scn1/...MjQwMY0NaA%3DN

It looks like this site has since been identified as an attack site.

How do these things get in to what seems to be legitimate affiliate sites?

How do you protect yourself from them?

The program wanted me to download a .exe file (as IF this would ever happen - being a Mac user) but it was a scary episode.

But how would anyone know if this was a legitimate concern or not?

Hi, I get extremely nervous anytime anything pops up that says antivirus.
Viruses get on legitimate websites simply because people are mean and they want to hinder anyway they can.

    Plain Truth!

I never download .exe files unless I am 100% sure what they are.

I am not familiar with intactearnings.com, and I will not be checking them out based on what happened to you

And sadly enough there is no way to know what is a legitimate concern. So just try to avoid anything that looks questionable.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.

It may look legitimate, but you should never download any form of executable file from unknown or non-secure (HTTPS) sites.

Your first line of defense - stop using Internet Explorer. Then you need to ensure that you have a top of the line antivirus/spyware/rootkit app running such as AVG.
