Fellow Warriors,

I am here for a while now and I need to make a confession.

Though a relatively-experienced service provider, I'm new to Internet Marketing.

Every post in WSO promises heaven and the sales pages are out of the world. Given the reputation of Warrior Forum, I believed in every single one of those offers. And bought quite a few.

Then, there were some freebies doled out. I was only too happy to download them. Now, I have a folder that has ebooks numbering in double digits.

I sat down to read them one by one and when I was through, I found out something: I was no more smarter than i was when I started it. In fact, I was quite confused.

Then the understanding: None of those books and reports were worthless. They were extremely relevant and had tons of information. Problem is... I was trying to have a seven-course meal for breakfast. Naturally, I couldn't digest. I started losing hope.

I didn't visit WF for a few days. I then did what I knew already. I posted in my blog and created some backlinks and basically, took it easy. No strategy, but I did what i knew. I am a writer and provide article writing service. Naturally, my content is good. Within a few days, I noticed something happening. It was a revelation:

I started getting fantastic traffic to my blog. I didn't do anything ground breaking. I'll tell you what I did:

I wrote good quality content.
Posted it on my blog.
Posted it on a few web 2.0 sites and linked back to my site.
I wrote only fresh unique articles everywhere.

Well, that's it.

There is already some good money through clicks.

Now, I think I will start some offers and build a list and sell.

What I learnt:

Do it simple. Play on your strengths. Remember that, "Everyone who has a secret to reveal has tried it "first." Find a process that is your "secret."

For me, I have a secret and I won't sell it. But just say it here.

"I did what I knew."

For every newbie like me out there... Don't get bogged down by information overload and puppy failures. Chin up!

Cheers!

Aravind

    Excellent observations, Aravind.

It can be incredibly challenging not to get bogged down in information overload -- particularly with all things "internet marketing".

It's a good thing that you made this discovery early in the process. Learning is important -- in fact, it's crucial. But results can only come from taking action. You've got to get out of the bleachers and onto the field. Sometimes it works, Sometimes it doesn't. But you'll never know until you put yourself (and your products) out there.

Falling down is part of the process... as long as you don't give up. But it's often easier to keep on studying, thinking that "one day" you'll finally know enough to put it all together and be successful. But that day never comes.

The only way to succeed is to get on your bike and give it your best shot. You have to be willing to fall off and skin your knees because that's just part of the process of life. That's how you progress. But if you don't think you have "the right stuff" or you don't think you know enough to make things work, it's easy to find ways to prevent yourself from following through. You'll continue looking, reading, watching videos and on and on it goes.

Taking action gets results, as you just proved. You "did what you knew" and it's working for you. There's a lot to be said for keeping it simple and USING your strengths. Get out there and do it.

    Robert

Well, thats good Aravind. And it was a simple inspirational post.

So thats IM whole about. You only need to focus a method where you exactly know what you are doing. And also, as we all know, IM returns takes its own time.

    Hi Aravind

I love your observations they are really interesting.

The truth is i often buy products or grab free reports or even do testimonials and i read them for one reason only.

I might one pargraph with a fresh nugget of information that i can implement and if i dont read it i will always be left wondering.

Even with the article writing ebooks (i even have one myself) but someone might include that little extra thing to include and that is what can be so interesting for our business.

This is also the reason why so many internet marketers use the warrior that even though they have been around the block a few times they might just learn something new.

    kind regards

      Sam,

You're spot on. That's something else I wanted to talk about. When you know "what" you are looking for...Warrior Forum is a treasure trove. But if one goes wide eyed at every "Millionaire In 24 Hours" thread, jus' like yours truly did... then one would end up going around in circles.

      Cheers!

    Congrats, Aravind.

Bottom line: The plain techniques which can be applied easily are useful - they may lead you to the success if you stand by them sufficiently.

You are on your way. Just be patient and steady. As you perhaps know, they didn't build Rome under a day. Meanwhile try to study because you'll find things which you didn't hear yet, always.

The WF is the best place to satisfy your curiosity.

    All the best,

    Sandor

      Excellent thread.

Here is what I took from this thread.

      1) Do what you know

      2) Take action

      3) Information overload and studying for the sake of studying or because you enjoy studying will lead to failure

      4) Be prepared to fail and keep carrying on

      5) You need to be lucky. Aravind stumbled upon something that worked for him. But for every person who gets lucky there must be ten who find that they have wasted their time.

      6) But I suppose you have a better chance of being lucky if you are prepared to fail and keep trying again and again.

      7) You can I suppose find out what you want to do in IM after pin pointing your strengths (ebooks, adsense, blogs, affiliate or whatever) and look for information that helps you in that chosen line of work.

      8) And you must be careful whom you are buying information from. There are a lot of people selling junk in IM. Chose someone known to be trustworthy.

      9) And if you do find something you want to try out try to get some idea whether your venture will succeed or fail within a short time - say 3 or 4 months. I spend almost 3 years working on a niche content website using SBI and suffered a big loss. More than money it is the 3 years that have cost me. I can never get that time back.

      10) Once you have a venture or site that is giving you some results you can look for tips and secrets that will help you fine tune your site and produce more profits. Warrior forum is good for that as are I suppose some other IM products.

      11) Be prepared to slog and keep slogging. IM attracted me to start with because the concept of residual income. Do the work once and get paid forever sort of thing. And it didn't work. You need to be prepared to do an honest day's work.

      12) There are I suppose methods in IM through which a person can earn large sums of money quickly and with little effort but those secrets ARE NOT FOR SALE. Anyone who has such valuable information will either keep it to himself or sell it for a very large price. And you need to really do a lot of surfing and work and analysis to be able to locate such secret methods.

      13) AS to these detailed courses containing a lot of study material - I read a newspaper article which described how governments engage in disinformation. They release huge amounts of information and most of what you read is fluff. The really important points that you need to understand will be mentioned but NO EMPHASIS will be given to them So most people will miss those points. The article mentioned that Arun Shourie (the Rajya Sabha member in India) goes through government pronouncements like a forensic detective. Really critically examining it. And in that way he is able to sometimes nail the government deceit.
Now IM gurus - like the governments - have a vested interest. They simply do not want the really good methods and techniques that they know to become known to too many people. So even assuming they refer to the really good techniques (and they may not) they will present the information in such a way and most people will not understand and will not see the value of it.

      14) Also the map is not the territory. Any plan to make money on the net is a map. And you can only find out whether the map is accurate or not by ACTUALLY MAKING THE JOURNEY. And the territory keeps changing all the time. The Internet changes at a frenetic pace and the techniques which made money even six months ago may not work now.
I read somewhere that a lot of IM gurus sell outdated information. Once a technique is no longer working for them and they have milked it for all it was worth they will release an ebook or home study course that describes the outdated technique. It is a jungle out there.
Stick to the basics. Learn the basic concepts of marketing and IM and see if any method you want to try out is in line with basic IM and marketing principles.

      15) Lastly learn some basic skills like copywriting, market research, product creating and a few reliable methods of traffic generation. You do not need to be a master of all trades. But you do need to be a master of a few very important skills and that is enough for success. And to learn a skill you must practice it. Simply studying ebooks will not help.

Hope this helps someone. This has almost been a brain dump of some common sense lessons that I learned the hard way from my years in IM. If I think of something more I will post again.

      regards

      Nikhil
