Promoting Youtube Video

Hi guys,

I've been in the video marketing for a week and I wanted to ask the experienced ones for some advice:

Is it good to promote the video building backilinks, linkwheels etc. to it?

Is it better to promote it since it is on youtube or should I promote a webpage?

Thanks!

If you want to achieve high serp for the video that is hosted on youtube (eg the youtube page itself) then you should build backlinks to it. But first check how does it rank right now without any backlinks. It might be hard to rank it for very competitive keywords.

Also don't forget that you can get traffic from YouTube itself...

Some ideas for this would be making your video a reply to a popular video, or matching your tags to a video in your niche that ranks well to make it appear high in YouTube searches.

TONS of people (including me!) go to YouTube for advice, especially how-tos!

Of course it's better to promote the video so it will get seen, you can do it by posting it on your site or blog, or send it to your friends or to your list.

You Tube is one of the works top websites, therefore a lot of traffic.

    You would do it
    1. For traffic (I get over 10,000 a month visitors)
    2. Backlinks (Other websites pick up You Tube videos so extra links)
    3. Post through Tube Mogul, same amount of work and 1/3 ADDITIONAL views in my experience.

Good luck with your Video Marketing .

    Cheers,
    Mukul

        YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.

Good video. You tube and getting the first page has changed and is less effective for fast result, of course longer tail keyword are easier. I do notice that videos from 1 to 2 years ago are now popping up and ranking strong. I believe good favoring aged videos.

I talked about this in a video blog I did earlier today on myt blog.

        Cheers,
        Mukul

How about videos made and uploaded in youtube longer than 2 years? Will it still help in promoting a website?

Uhhh... Except for the sales pitch at the end, this is just a video for uploading on TubeMogul?? (Maybe I missed something though). They actually have a rather good explanation on thier site here:

        Features - Video Deployment

@OP > Dont overlook the quality and effectiveness of your video production. Make sure there is something worthwhile in your video and a the better part of traffic problem will be solved by viewers passing it around all on their own, and embedding it on their blogs.

And dont forget that commenting helps a lot for youtube based traffic.

A good tip is to write comments that will certainly stir up other people to respond. Not necessarily starting fights, but starting controversies really helps stiru people to start commenting

If its about a celebrity and you say CELEB X IS THE MOST OVERRATED ACTRESS ON THE PLANET I gurantee you will get people responding back almost immediately

    best, Ken

I always use to promote my products in youtube, because it is the vast market place where millions of people are promoting their product. It is easy to choose a suitable video from youtube or can create one from windows movie maker.

If you product is hot on that day, then your video will get skyrocket traffic.

Yeah older videos will be index better. You Tube is a YouTube strategy today and a Google one tomorrow for me.

Hey Marty, hope all is well. I agree with your comment, you would be amazed at the # of people who have not heard of it. I was at a internet networking thing on Saturday and most of the room did not know about it. We should still get together for Coffee when I am back from Vancouver on the 25th.

It is the same amount of work to do You Tube and Tube Mogul after the initial set up, so you might as well use TM to gain more exposure.

      Cheers,
      Mukul

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Do you have any idea which one has more SEO weight - a link pointing back to the youtube video OR the youtube video embedded?

ok one thing about SEO is being natural and for the user as much as search engines. I would put it on your website becuase that is what the user would more like engage with it (and it is embedded so on You Tube) & the link is in the embed code.

Here is a video that was well received I had on my blog (if the mods dont like it, I can remove it).

      Cheers,
      Mukul

Notice that Mukul put his URL in the bottom of the whole video. That can help a lot in terms of driving traffic. You can also put it in a annotation to call more attention to it.

Yeah, I can say I get about 10,000 visitors a month from You Tube, but I get another 25,000 to 30,000 direct, I am guessing and only guessing that has a HUGE role to play in it, but cannot proof it of course.

      Cheers,
      Mukul
