Noob, introduction etc..
I've been thinking about trying my hand at online business for quite a while, but have only recently decided to finally get my hands dirty. I'm already wondering why it took me so long to actually commit to it.
I came across this forum a few days ago and have been reading and learning a lot.
I wanted to discuss some of my ideas and was hoping someone might have time to offer any advice or tips.
Firstly, my background is in graphic design, though I originally studied media production. I'm also passionate about all things audio - music, sound design, etc.
I've been out of work for some time because of health reasons, but things are on the up and up now, and I'm planning on making up for lost time!
I am something of a jack of all creative trades, but always considered myself a master of none. It was only recently that I stopped being so hard on myself and realized that my varied skill set has a certain amount of potential.
I'm planning on creating and selling original material for download, starting with royalty free recordings for the music/tv industry, and perhaps later moving on to things like video training. I've also been considering selling my skills as a Flash banner designer, but that's down the line.
Also, with video training, I've been playing with the idea of selling the rights to resell products, but that is something much further down the line. Right now, I'm focusing on creating and recording the most original, usable audio content for DJs, producers, radio guys, TV/Film guys, etc.
I'm not very business savvy, and right now my plan is something along these lines:
Create company name, logo, brand identity etc (done)
Look at my target market and successful competitors.
Create my original, high quality content, based on what is popular, what is lacking in the market, and what I foresee to be potentially popular.
Offer content of different sizes and prices, which will later be refined to focus on the most successful method.
Upload and sell via main website, integrated with tradebit/paypal.
Build up a catalog of products over time.
Develop a promo/marketing strategy that doesn't insult the intelligence of potential clients, and build an email list.
Build an affiliate program which integrates into the main website without sacrificing its integrity.
If anyone has any tips, (which don't involve buying software, ebooks or sending money to Western Union!) I would be very grateful for the help.
Thanks, and love from Ireland.
