Can You Recommend Voice Transcription Service?

Hey Warriors,

Can anyone recommend a good voice transcription service? I want to dictate articles and have someone type them for me.

I may try Dragon Speak at some point but I want to find a good transcriptionist for now.

      If you're spending the money anyway, why don't you just go with Dragon? I just started using it a few months ago and once you train it, you can dictate quickly. The more you use it, the less errors, but you train the program as you go along.

      I used to be a transcriptionist using the old dictaphone system - in fact, I used to dictate my articles into the recorder and then transcribe them afterwards. What a pain. Now I see this program is available, I can't help wondering why anyone would go that old route.

    I think it was George Wright who came up with a great idea (I'll update my post if I've incorrectly attributed): Get yourself a Google Voice account, call yourself and leave your article/ebook/sales page/whatever as a message. Google Voice will then email you a transcript of the call. Copy, paste and make minor corrections (GV isn't perfect, especially if you mumble like I do).

      The great thing about Google Voice is that you can also to conference calls and get them transcribed.

      Here are the easy steps (and it's all free):

      1. Get yourself a free account with FreeConferenceCallHD.com
      2. Get yourself a free account with Google Voice and set it up according to what you want and need
      3. When you have a conference call that you want to record and transcribe, give out your telephone number and access code to the people calling in
      4. You, however, make your call from your Google Voice account and then call in from that number to your Free Conference Call HD account

      When you're done you'll get the free mp3 from FreeConferenceCallHD and you'll also get the transcription from Google Voice that you can use for newsletters etc.

      Have a look at speech recognition software - Dragon really is the best I've ever used and makes article writing so much easier. Great for re-writes too as you talk faster than you can write in most cases.

      I use oDesk for this.

      Some really great transcriptionists for rates far less than people are quoting on this thread. And none of the messed up grammar you end up with from using software.

      You do have to hunt around a bit to find the right people, but once you do, you can easily book them for regular work. You can also look for good workers the US and similar countries, or look overseas where the rates are lower (but the standard of English is often also excellent).

        I agree with impact. Odesk is the best in my opinion. I have used some services from there and they are terrific. No complaints so far.
