Ideas, please! My 16 year Old son needs to make £350 in four weeks - ideas?

Hi

My son (16) is going on the World Challenge (World Challenge - educational expeditions and adventure travel for schools).

He needs to raise money towards it on a consistent basis. He currently needs £350/$545 by mid-March.

He is raising some money through singing (Cathedral choir and busking), but needs more.

I thought this would be a good time to introduce him to the Internet beyond MSN!

Does anyone have a good idea or two what he could do quickly and effectively? I can show him how to build a quick, basic site if necessary. (He doesn't have a great deal of time as it's exam year at school,m so is finishing course work and revising for the exams.)

I'm happy, should he get, run with and succeed with a good idea, to write it up as a product afterwards and sell it on a JV basis with you.

Thanks

Jacqui

    Jacqui,

This comes straight into my mind when I
    read your post.....

    - This itself will be a great story to tell.
    - Create a site with this Story
    - Make videos of his singing.
    - Sells mp3 audios album of his singing for donations.
    - Use Youtube, Twitter and other mean
to drive traffic and raise the money.

    What do you think?

      WOW!!!!!

You just showed me how simple Internet Marketing really is.

We seem to complicate it trying to make millions when we just
need to keep it simple and though it may take longer we will
      eventually make millions.

      Thanks Jason.

      God bless you

    Hi

For your son the best option is to get him on some work sites such as elance and odesk.com there are lots of jobs he could do from article writing, to posting tweets on twitter. He could very easily earn that amount no problem at all.

    Kind regards

This is so timely as I have a friend who was taking a gap year recently and she wanted to travel to Asia but could not get the funding.

Here is a suggestion that I gave her that really worked.

      1) All her friends and relatives were very excited for her as she had wanted to make this trip for a long time. As she made her plans to go and the suspense was building up I showed her how to create a blog so that all of her friends could follow her progress from the preparation to the actual trip itself.

They could keep in touch with her, view her pics and read about her adventures.

She then typed out a little farewell letter which she printed and gave to everybody she knew which contained the link to her blog and begged everybody to keep in touch with her as she would miss them and she wanted to share her experiences.

A lot of people were keen to help her financially so she also had a discreet paypal donation button for anybody wanting to contribute to her adventure.

She raised more than her air fare which was a massive help and she has a great time posting on her blog and it helps her not to get too homesick.

Some people might not feel comfortable with this but she did it in such a way that it was not begging and her friends, family and neighbours really did want to help and would have given her the money anyway.

It also helps them not to miss her as they can follow her blog.

      Gary

PS. I hope he manages to raise the money and have a great time

I have to totally agree with this. There is a sharp learning curve with IM and excuse my ignorance, but i would hazard a guess that very few Warriors came up with a decent plan and started making money in their first month! This is what you are expecting of your son. Even if he has your guidance this is a hard feat to achieve. Odd jobs are the way to go.

Another possibility if you really want to introduce him to IM is to hire him as an assistant YOURSELF. Get him to do some of the tasks and jobs you don't enjoy doing and pay him for doing them. This is a great way for him to learn and will give him a solid foundation in IM and no doubt is good for the for the parent/child relationship!

If he is a good writer then he can get some job from me. If he is not, then I suggest you should get into site flipping.

I am very sure ( 100% sure ) that he can make that amount in 2 weeks flipping websites but he needs to work for it. Working for it here means taking action.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I have brainstormed a couple of action plans and will discuss them with him this evening over supper - he is at school at the moment.

Then I'll come back to each of you with feedback.

The money raising needs to be an ongoing thing over the next year or so (and hopefully beyond); he has suddenly realised he needs to focus on it! Whilst I'm happy to help with ideas and technique, he knows I won't bail him out. To his credit, he doesn't want me to.

In a twist of fate, my 18 year old daughter has just been laid off, so I have been going over an action plan with her in our local friendly coffee shop.

She is a star writer and has already worked at a glossy mag as a sub editor and feature writer. I have occasionally put work her way, and will do so again. She is keen to start up as a writer: articles, blogs, content, direct mail. I'll be teaching her about keyword research and using keywords in her writing. She reckons she can also collaborate with my son on a couple of things.

Back to my own work now!

      Thanks

Yes, I bought a WSO on this (the one called the 'flopping') and I think that would be a good long term thing for him. We can learn about it togther He loves technical things, so I will also teach him about analytics. His writing is fine, but it's not a love. His girlfriend wants to write, so they can team up.

Brilliant! Sadly the snow here isn't really settling. I could get him to go out and sweep leaves from people's yards and gardens, though.

He would love to, thank you. He has half term next week, so that would be a good starting time.

I think a mix of things will be good: long-term skills, and just get out there and do some hard graft. Pretty chilly here, but I'm sure he can cope :-)

I haven't done this yet, but as I understand it, you build a site/lens/blog, get some content onto it (and maybe Adsense), drive traffic to it, make a bit of money through it, and then sell it to people who are happy to keep pushing the finished product. It sounds good - I'm trying not to get distracted, but I will be showing the method (I bought a WSO on it) to my son.

PS Once his exams are over (June), he will have a good long stretch until he goes back in September to start A levels (not sure what that equates to in the US and others - higher exams, anyway).

He'll be able to work on a lot of the skills then and develop them properly.

If he decides to write articles to make the cash, why not take this a little further.

He could do keyword research, gather the facts about niches, write spinnable articles,
and find some Clickbank products for that niche. He could then sell them as a complete
package, for a lot more than he would for an article pack, and a lot less work too.

I'm planning to do something like this in a few months time myself, but I'll include my
    own proprietary Article Spinner.

Here's an offline idea that's timeless: When I was about the same age I mowed a lot of lawns, did some basic land scaping, and ran errands like grocery shopping for people and made a little over $1,000 US in about a month. Hell, I even baby sat a couple of kids. It sure made me appreciate every penny I made, that's for sure.

Yes, I would say ether write articles, maybe do voice over if he has a good voice, if he you/her has any internet marketing experience, you can do some bum marketing with CPA offers.

There are a lot of bum marketing method that can quite easily genearte $50+ per day but require good ol work. How much does that translate into dollars btw?

Kids make good money on YouTube.. Never thought to add that but not sure it would make much in as little as 4 weeks. By kids I mean teens, they do all sorts and seem to earn quite a bit from their efforts.

Check out some like Fred, Shane Dawson, Chart Jackers (Few guys from England). And more that I can't think of. It's definitely for a teen with acting /singing skills, a good opportunity.

Great advice, thank you, and I will pass it on.

UPDATE: This evening, Charles (Charlie) has just put up his first blog, signed up for AdSense and got onto Twitter. Here is the blog link: My World Challenge Challenge. He will add a donate button soon.

What sort of affiliate packages would go well on this?

He is also going to write to some local businesses to get sponsorship for the site. I will show him the basics of a DM letter and he will do the rest.

He is a whizz at singing (including classical), debating, maths, stats, physics, accurate typing, and fairly good English (very good when he wants to). He is very sporty and has a fairly sophisticted sense of humour (quirky satire).

I'm trying to think what he could outsource - maybe twitter (I know by tomorrow he will be good at it) and Google Analytics (he would learn very quickly).

Hard to know really. My daughter has many writing skills, so it's easier to set her up with businesses to do article writing, etc.

    Disclaimer: I don't have kids

What is the problem with a paper route?

I am not sure I would encourage my children to spend all their time on the internet. The teenage years should be about trying lots of stuff, meeting people of own age and messing up.

There will be plenty of time for internet.

Paper rounds are all taken up here, but it's a good point :-)

He has a very good social life (hence being behind with school work!) and is active with squash, badminton, cycling, etc.

He is keen to start earning cash that doesn't involve housework :-) and feeds his need to learn techie stuff.

I am also a 16 year old debating freak! Squidoo is a great place to start, although services are awesome!

If he can sing classical I *MAY* have a job for him...

Take a look at eXceem.co.uk People of all ages have been making money through affiliate marketing for years. The most well known company is FreebieJeebies. At £17 per referral, he'd need to get around 20 of his mates (or yours, or anyone) to sign up and complete an offer. Easily possible in the timescale he has available.

Consider using PPV to generate CPA leads.

I wouldn't suggest doing email submits, because a lot of them are scrubbed (i.e. you don't get paid for them because they're already in the system.)

Target cooking sites with free grocery offers, or something like that.

The best PPV network for newbies is MediaTraffic. They have great target, and a super easy system (short learnign curve).

You can even us aWeber to build a list, and automatically forward them to a pre-populated CPA offer. That way, all they have to do is click 'Submit' and you get paid.

By doing this (i.e. building a list0 you can market to your list on an ongoing basis (residual income)

What are you good at? What do you like? Where would you like to go with your business? Quick cash, or long term, or both?

Jacquic - if you boy can do some telemarketing for me it would be great practise for debates (trust me, you NEED confidence), and I would provide him with a script and 10% commission on my £950-2000 sales for offline gold.

How about turning him into a little entrepreneur. Show him that you can hire people to write articles for $3.50, then sell them to others for $6 on forums, at Craigslist etc

Thank you moneymo2010 - plenty of ideas there.

You're right about giving a choice and finding what's best.

He's trying out a few things this weekend, and then another couple next week.

It's good of you all to pitch in here, and he's chuffed (UK=pleased) and excited.
