Where do you run your IM Empire from?

I run mine from home, except when travelling, which I do at least once per month. I don't have any intention of getting an office, though it might become necessary one day, as it is easier to keep up with core employees this way.

Not quite an empire yet, but working from a corner of my dining room. There's no intention of going anywhere else now I no longer spend 3 hours a day travelling 45 miles each way to my former job.

A very small area in my bedroom...

We plan on moving soon and I'm hoping to get a place with a spare room which I can use as an office.

It'll give my brain a rest too when I'm not in the same room as my office.

That sounds familiar! I used to flop right out of my office chair onto my bed. Sometimes I would forget I'd moved the desk and flop onto the ground...

Those were in the days when dialup was still fast enough. Now I work at my brother's house in town during the day because I can't get broadband internet where I live...just 7km out of town. This country's telecoms infrastructure sucks.

  I have a dedicated room in the house with a couple of PCs with "proper" keyboards, nice big monitors, speakers, printers and a scanner.
  
  I've never bought into the "laptop on the beach" style of operating - just can't be doing with those fiddly keyboards and small screens.
  
  When travelling, I prefer to use the hotel's internet facility or even an internet cafe.

It is REALLY important to separate your wok place from your sleeping place.
Feng shui aside, your mind needs real rest away from work

I have both a home office and a real office. The real one gives me a place to meet with people when necessary. Adds a lot of credibility when that's needed for face-to-face meetings.

Best thing I've done recently was to get a 22" monitor. That has made me considerably more productive. After the rebate, the Samsung monitor only cost me $250. It's been WELL worth it.

I rent an office in the centre of Manchester UK, and then walk to work each day. While I initially loved working from home I now really enjoy the life/work seperation that the office gives me.

Plus I have an inhouse office manager and it's nice to be able to have him managing virtual operations while I'm out and about.

Well, I can't really say I have an IM Empire (yet, anyway!), but all the rest of my business is conducted from my home office here in The Big Apple. My condo overlooks the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean and we're right at the entrance to NY Harbor. It's not too shabby.

Me too, but I won't even try and pretend that the location is anywhere near as exotic, or that the backsides on the beach are anything like as peachy.

We get a few kids playing footie on the beach as well, but it's more neck-high tackles than step-overs and hypnotic dribbling.

It takes a strong commitment to get a tan over here and jumping in the sea tends to give you an ice-cream-migraine but hey! You make the most of what you've got

Morning - KFC or a cafe for breakfast
Late Morning - Park Bench
Evening - Starbucks
Late Evening - Bed

I don't usually work in the afternoons because it is my least productive period. I use a single Laptop with wireless Internet access. I also have a real office in another appartment that I rarely use.

My business is run from an office in a local business center. I also have an office at home that I use for email/surfing, but not much else.

Occasionally, I set up my laptop on the kitchen table, usually when I want to chat to Mrs AutoResponse Plus who's doing the ironing behind me.

In the morning, I leave the house at the same time as my kids and do a good day's work in the office.

I just like that structure and also my chats with others at the coffee machine, probably engrained from too many years working in corporate Britain!

I operate from my home office too but because I like to be around people, I enjoy sometimes to visit my local coffeehouse. Not only does it allow me human interaction but once in a while I meet some other cool people.

My work at coffeehouses tends to be more mechanical but my creative juices flow everywhere but tend to be when I am in my home environment.

Just my two cents.

Due to my blue-nose brummie tendencies, it would be a bit rich of me to offer similar opinion. But we do have a Scottish manager with a red face. I work from home. Totally. From a desk in my bedroom, and when I get cabin fever (happens a lot), I step into the garden and sit under my gazebo with my laptop taking in the fresh wind on my face. Love it!

I work in my living room, favourite cafes, and have a few awesome offices I sit in on if I need company.
I don't like to be tied to one place

Hi All,

Right now I'm working out of the corner
of our living room with a great view of...
next door's brick wall!!!

My future plans involve working from
my downstairs 1 bedroom apartment
(I own a triplex, live in one app. and
rent 2) that I would like to convert into
nice office space for my Online business
as well as my construction business...
(I try and swing the hammer less and less
every year and use my cell phone more and more)

Anyway, all that to say I'll one day have a nice
view of the restaurant in front !!!
(Although I guess it will be a bit more distracting...
more so in summer when the terrace is open
and the ladies start wearing less ;-) )

I'm sure I'll get use to it !

I work in my home office. We have a regular tower PC but I like to work on my laptop. Hubby bought me a 22" monitor for Christmas so that makes it nice.

I used to work in the dining room but that was so distracting with everyone walking about in the house and all. Now I have a separate room and I can shut the door to block everyone out when I want, but I can also leave and shut the door when I want to leave work.

Sometimes if I get bored, I'll move into the living room and work while I am watching TV, in the summer I sit out on the porch and work.

You really can't beat the commute - especially on those snow days!

Home office, my living room sofa, our boat, grandma's, my "other" job's office, the beach condo overlooking the intracoastal waterway, the car, lots of places (although I don't really recommend the beach- protect your electronic baby from the sand and water!) I'm so thankful for the existence laptops!
