Has Google Done This To anyone Else?

This morning I tried to log into my GMail account to check for messages and was greeted with this message:

"Account temporarily disabled
We apologize for the inconvenience. Accounts may be disabled because of a perceived violation of either the Google Terms of Service or product-specific Terms of Service. Learn more

For immediate assistance, enter your mobile phone number below and we'll send you a text message with a verification code."

Why on earth would they pick on me? I've never spammed anyone in my life. I've always just used the Gmail account when I've made online purchases etc. and didn't want to use either a business or personal email address.

On the other hand, a big chunk of spam mail I receive comes in on Gmail addresses.

As I see it, Google already probably know too much about me and I'm very reluctant to give them my cell phone number as well.

Yes...this can happen for a variety of reasons, but one of the biggest is people hijacking your account. They may not have "real" access to it - they might just be spoofing it, send out their spam dump, and voila - enough people complain and your account is disabled.

I'd suggest using Adwords live chat for a "real" Adwords question and then ask about your Gmail account at the end.

I have never heard of this before. The only place that I have heard where Google terminates your account is when you have Google adsense ads on your site and you click on your own ads and you get caught but nothing like this before.

    This is weird.

    never happened to me..very strange..

Google often sends me a message to give them my phone number for security reasons,
    but I never do..
Obviously they have something in mind with our phone numbers

I would email them from another account and provide as much info as possible, and/or give them a call. They're pretty reasonable if you're legit, it just takes some time to talk to the right person.

Yes i heard from a friend 7 months ago thesame thing that happen to you, the only reason is that you must have click on the ads which is against the rules of the program. Or someone else must have done that at your absence.

It usually happens when somebody uses the gmail account for spam, but this case is really weird...you can try to look for answers at their support forum.

This happened to me. I believe it occurred because I created multiple Gmail accounts in one 24 hour period, and they didn't like that.

I wasn't doing it to spam, I was creating a gmail account for each of the businesses I work with. I do that so the business and I both have access to the same account. Typically I do it when I get a new business, but I was creating a second for everyone, so doing them all at once must have triggered something that Google didn't like.

There are programs out there that generate 100's of gmail accounts an hour, and this is Google's attempt to battle that.

For some reason, they are concerned about you. It's not a big deal, all you have to do is verify your account and they'll restore it for you. Just make sure that you really are in your google account, and it wasn't some phishing email you received.

But yeah, the phone verification thing is real. Craigslist has it now, as do other places.

Hi, could it be that google and CL have the idea of obtaining clients cell phone numbers for verifying accounts, in an attempt to combat the bots...like in adsense they mailed out the pin numbers.

I had a similar experience with blogger today. I logged into my account and i was greeted with "you blog is a spam" click here to restore it" if you are reading this then it probably not a spam.

I clicked on it and an email was sent. I have to wait a few hours or probably days before my blog will be re-instated.

For you Annie simply open a yahoo email instead of giving your personal email.
