Don't let them bring you down.

Lately, I have found it quite interesting how people are reacting towards me and my business. I've always been one to dream big and try many approaches to make money. I was in the search for the right system and it took a while to find it.

When I first started internet marketing a little over a year ago, my friends and family saw it as just another, "Oh, Travis is trying this crazy way of making money again." Now they have always supported me through the past, but I don't think they ever believed in what I was doing.

I remember talking with my dad on the phone one evening about a small success I had with my first website (I made my first sale or something..I can't remember). He congratulated me and was happy for me, but he would always reinforce the idea of how good my day job was and how I should focus on that. I understand is mind frame though. He was looking out for me and he had only worked hard his whole life with not much pay back.

It's funny now though. Over the past 2 months I have seen results just multiplying each week it feels like. My friends and family are taking notice and getting much more curious of my work.

My dad even called me last week because he wanted help optimizing his local business' website and get it ranking in Google. He is a stone mason...a damn good one too. I laughed at him because it was only a couple weeks ago, he told me I should stop the internet marketing for a while. It took about 50 PR 6+ backlinks and his site is sitting at #1 on google for some local keyword traffic. He called me last night and told me he got a new contract for 2 fireplaces through the contact page I put up on his site. That's about $10k ($8k profit for him) if you don't know what good stone masonry work cost. He is believer now.

A lot of my close friends are asking me to show them how to do what I do now too. They used to get upset with me because I would always be working on my websites instead of go out and party with them. Now, they see that hard work is paying off. I have more free time and best of all, I'm not so strapped for cash.

The point of this post is DON'T LET OTHER PEOPLE BRING YOU DOWN. Not everyone can do what we do. It's a difficult and long road to be a self employed successful person. I have had people tell me this "internet pipe dream" is just a waste of my time and I'm never going to make it.

Did I listen to them?

Not once.

You're the only one in control of what you get out of life. Don't allow nay-sayers to drag you down to their level.

Good luck to you all.

Travis

Good read Travis. I get the same negativity and doubt from my family. Everyone thinks that I am doing some Kind of illegal stuff and will never make any money. It is good to hear what you say and it's good to know I'm not the only one out there. Keep pushing forward..

I can relate to this as well.People who don´t know what we marketers are doing cannot really understand it and it seems impossible to explain it to them even if it is the same as marketing something in the real world, only it is on the internet.

If someone asks me what I do, I just tell them I work at home.

I know the feeling there too lol. I always have a hard time explaining what I do. I always say I'm in consulting.

    Hello,
I remember the day when I told everyone about the coming of
ebooks, they all thought that I was crazy.
Several years later I have helped many of my friends become authors.
It took a lot of effort for me not to say I told you so.

I get a lot of this, had it for years since I have always been the black sheep in a family of fairly successful people, cant wait until I have £500 a week coming in from residual income from multiple sites lol

Just have to figure out how to set them up, finding niches is not the problem lol
