How Do You Do This With A Wordpress Blog?

Hello Warriors,
I recently purchased some wordpress blogs and they come with the username of "admin" and the password is "123456". I need to change these obviously to something much harder. So what I need to know is how in the world do you change the password on a wordpress blog? I can't find a place inside the blogs admin area. It can't be impossible to change!

Thanks,
Mike

go to your cpanel, and than find wp-admin.php, and check and change username and password from there.

Click on users tab, then your profile.

You can set your new password in the field at the bottom of this screen.

login to your WP site... upper right hand corner "admin" scroll to bottom, you'll see the password field... done.

Thanks a lot. Both took me to the same screen. It worked no problem. I guess I didn't look hard enough or scroll down on that screen.

Between Plugins and Tools on the left nav bar of your admin area is a Users tab. Click on the tab and a list of your users will come up. Edit the "admin" user. Once opened the option to change the password is at the bottom of the edit page.

You might want to change "admin," though, Mike. Pretty big security risk, that. It means that any 9-year-old hacker (or bot) has more or less 50% cracked your login details before they even begin.

The base admin username can't actually be changed from within your blog set-up as I recall. Yes, you can change the "display" name, but you can't change the actual name.

To do that, you'll need to go into your databases in cPanel, select the database for that blog, click on the "users" table in there and then change the admin name from there.

If that's as clear as mud, PM me. Or maybe someone can give a better step-by-step... I don't have time to do a test run-through on one of my sites right now, I'm afraid.

Actually, the easier way (w/o instructing him to go to cPanel) is to use WP itself..

      Do like this:
      1) Login to your WP blog with your current user/pass (i.e. admin/123456)
      2) Go to Users, and add a new user
      3) Make the new user exactly what you want it to be in terms of cryptic username and strong password
      4) Grant the new username admin privileges (option in the same window)
      5) Logoff
      6) Login again as the new user
      7) Go to Users
      8) Select the old admin user aka 'admin'
      9) Delete/erase/kill/crush/blow/whatever... the old 'admin' user into oblivion
      10)...that'd be all, I think...

just log into your wp admin panel, choose profile and change password there.
No need to login to your cpanel and edit the wp-config.php or whatever file.
