Moving away from Godaddy , but where to ..

Yes that is right those newers who consider Godaddy , I am moving away because no AUTOMATIC WORDPRESS and PLUGIN update is supported and it is SLOW.

Please suggest from the WP recommended ones. Which one has good performance , I was before with MT and was pleased with the perfomance , except it can get pricey with more blogs ( for the grid service thing ):

  • If you're talking about hosting, Hostgator is excellent. The only other host I would use is LiquidWeb for a VPS.

  • Hostgator all the way for me.
  • I've been using DreamHost for like 7 years for all my shared sites where uptime isn't super important. Love it.

Have also heard great things about HostGator like others have said, so I don't think you can go wrong with them either.

The most important thing is that you're leaving GoDaddy. Excellent decision

    Worst. Host. Evar.
  • HostGator, easy solution.
  • Host Gator is good . I used 3x for a while but no matter what I did I kept getting hacked .
Might think about some type of reseller account from the gator or reseller panel

    • There are a large number of hosting providers and I would recommend you select a hosting provider which is relevant to your geographical location. If you are based in the UK, try Heart Internet, Host Gator will probably be a good option for US residents. The IP location is very important when it comes to ranking on search engines and also very relevant to the type of business you are doing or your location.

  • I've heard good reports about Hostgator. I personally use D9 who are very internet marketer friendly.
  • Hi

I would keep your domain with godaddy.com and then pay for hosting with hostgator because they are very good value for money and the service is excellent.

    kind regards

  • I've tried a tonne of different hosts and registrars and after much experimentation I've settled on Hostgator + Namecheap.

Hostgator is the absolute best quality for the lowest price I've encountered in ten years of web design etc. Great speed, excellent set of features, top support and very low price.

Namecheap has the best user interface and, unlike GoDaddy, don't try to upsell you seventeen different times on every page.

Namecheap gives free whois guard with each registration, which GoDaddy charge extra for, and there are always coupons around so that it becomes cheaper than GoDaddy. Just search for "Namecheap coupon" and one of the two top search results will give you a discount.

    • Agreed. Hosting with Hostgator and domain registration with Namecheap. Hostgator has been great and their support has been very responsive. IMO, the Namecheap interface is much better than GoDaddy.

  • Try hostgator or better yet get your own at rackspace.

    • why that seems to be the same site you have an affiliate link in your sig file for .

  • Rochen. HostGator can be slow if you get on the wrong server. And their support is okay but nothing special.

Push Host Gator a bit and they can and will shut you down with no warning.

If you care about your Business spend the money on a good host that owns their own equipment and isn't over sold.

If you won't get much traffic then Host Gator is fine.

And if you rely on single button upgrades you could be in for a big surprise down the road. Scripts tend to break. So make sure whomever you choose does a good job with backups and restores.
  • Hostgator + Namecheap for me as well. I originally used GoDaddy for domain registration, but thanks to the forums here, I discovered NameCheap.

To echo some of the same sentiments as those above, HostGator has excellent customer service. I also agree with Kezz in regard to not having to deal with excessive upsells (from GoDaddy). It gets a bit annoying.
  • Do they offer any discounts at Namecheap for multiple domain registrations? Do you have
to pay extra for "private" registration when you renew the following year?

    Thomas

PS. Also, 1and1 has 6.99 special for .com and all their domains come with free private registration...
  • >> Namecheap gives free whois guard

one year only or every year in future ??
  • going to say hostgator!!!!!!! hands down and they have excellent support! always B-)
  • thanks all , seems like everyone loves hostgator
  • Hostgator are very good, but Deerfield Hosting are even better!

  • I like Media Temple -- Always had good experiences with them.

    • I had the worst experience with Media Temple.
      Hostgator's great.
      GoDaddy's hosting is rubbish.
  • I would use Host Gator... I helped out someone with Go Daddy and I found their hosting to be complicated and misleading.
  • I use hostgator and im very happy with them
  • I would highly recommend Bluehost.com.

I'm hosting about twenty blogs with them without any problem. They offer "Simple Scripts" installation which is just one click for installing wordpress and also only one click to upgrade your blog to the latest version.

This is specially handy if you have a large number of blogs to upgrade each time a new wordpress version comes out - and that is very often as you will agree.

    Hope this will help you

  • I use hostgator. they have an excellent service. In term of support it won't be any problem for you because they are fast efficient and friendly.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Nothing beats having your own reseller account from a trusted host
  • I just started out in affiliate marketing and because I knew about godaddy through podcasts I used to listen to for months, godaddy was the best way to go.
I must say that you are right on the performance of the godaddy hosting. It is SLOW and I have been contacting support for that but they say everything is working as normal at the backend.

While in my affiliate training, I came across -- MattieBlazeHosting --
This would have many benefits especially because it is affiliate friendly.
Prices are not high compared to others and the ease of use is also good.
If it would help just check it out. It has been the recommended hosting company of Michael Jones known from the Clickbank Code.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Hostgator is my no. 1 choice. Their response time is faster now compare to last year.

You should go ahead to use Hostgator.
  • Every WP installation has the "automatic" upgrade - you don't need GD for that. (You don't need GD at all, btw)

And nobody should host there anything. I don't even use them as a registrar and you shouldn't either.
Wait until they shut down your domain(s) if somebody complains about spam or anything they don't like about you...
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hostgator for me. Although , I am considering Hostnine for the multiple IPs opportunity.
  • I don't recommend webhuset.no in Norway. It's a host I'm using, and I'm not satisified with either the support or the security
  • I have just set up a blog using Go Daddy so haven't really had a chance to see the downside yet. If I move my blog elsewhere will I lose any of my content? Is it just a case of connecting to another host or are there any repurcussions in terms of the set up?

    Thanks in advance

    • Another vote for Hostgator for web host.

For domain registrar, I prefer Namecheap to GoDaddy, and have almost all my domains moved over now.
  • Host Gator is good and cheap, which seems to be the consensus on this thread. Also as another warrior said, Liquidweb is great if youre going the VPS route. Rackspace is another great option if youre going the dedicated route as well.

You can also check out the various hosting forums and look at the reviews. Always good to see the different view points.

But you really need to analyze what you are going to host. Do you need a lot of bandwidth, do you need a lot of space, how many sites are you going to host, do you care about SEO, if so you need to consider class C ip's.
What kind of site is it, personal blog, affiliate sites, product sites, larger more bandwidth intensive site, auto blog, etc. What goals do you have for the site.

As you can see, there are a bunch of factors to consider when choosing what hosting company you go with.

Just remember, cheapest isnt always the best option.

Good luck and do your homework

    JA
  • I have had Dreamhost for years haven't had a problem yet. The only down side is they don't use cpanel which can be a pain setting things up other then that its great. I think they might have a cpanel option now haven't checked their main site in years.
  • For domains: Namecheap!
For Hosting: Hostgator or any hosting company with Cpanel/WHM/Fantastico

I use two hostings, one with Hostgator, and also i have a reseller account with a local
hosting company, they are good for my current use.

    Regards,
    Mohsin
  • It goes without question: Hostgator. They are great... I have had excellent support from them for the past 2 years and I am 100% satisfied.
  • Dreamhost is a really good company. I would recommend checking them out.
  • Godaddy for registration and Host Gator for hosting.
  • For hosting, godaddy is really quite expensive!

    • i would definitely go with names cheap or godaddy to buy a domain but hostgator and planet-hosts is by far the best i have seen.

The one thing i like about planet-hosts is they offer vps setups which hostgator doesn't and for the same price as host gator they will give you more space and a lot more bandwith

      There both reliable
  • SEO Hosting (discount: 30off) = hosting account.

    Namecheap (bunny) = domain registration.

  • Yeah GoDaddy's overrated. Their hostings terrible.

    Simple, use Namecheap for domains.
    And HostGator for hosting.
  • As previously mentioned Hostgator is excellent. Personally I also use Just host.
They are really good but it does take a while for the blog to appear. Don't know why that is. I also here thewre is a coupon out right now for them. do a search for just host + coupon.
