Moving away from Godaddy , but where to ..

Yes that is right those newers who consider Godaddy , I am moving away because no AUTOMATIC WORDPRESS and PLUGIN update is supported and it is SLOW.

Please suggest from the WP recommended ones. Which one has good performance , I was before with MT and was pleased with the perfomance , except it can get pricey with more blogs ( for the grid service thing ):

If you're talking about hosting, Hostgator is excellent. The only other host I would use is LiquidWeb for a VPS.

I've been using DreamHost for like 7 years for all my shared sites where uptime isn't super important. Love it.

Have also heard great things about HostGator like others have said, so I don't think you can go wrong with them either.

The most important thing is that you're leaving GoDaddy. Excellent decision

Might think about some type of reseller account from the gator or reseller panel

There are a large number of hosting providers and I would recommend you select a hosting provider which is relevant to your geographical location. If you are based in the UK, try Heart Internet, Host Gator will probably be a good option for US residents. The IP location is very important when it comes to ranking on search engines and also very relevant to the type of business you are doing or your location.

Godaddy should stick to being a registrar, their hosting is terrible especially if you want to run scripts etc.

        Why?

The only time I've ever tried UK hosting it was crappy (and I mean crappy). Ditto for European

I stick with my US server now and it's excellent

Just putting in a shout for Bluehost and one and one .co.uk

          Complete reliability from both.

For the one month I tried out the big HG - it was rubbish. Sites were hacked and there was a huge amount of downtime. I gave up and moved. Never did hear from HG

I just started using Bluehost and am pleased so far. They answer your calls right away and give clear answers. They're very helpful. And I did try Hostgator for awhile, but wasn't happy with their templates --- kept getting halves of templates.

Whatever you do, avoid justhost.com. They are crummy and their customer reps are rather arrogant. I spoke to one of them and couldn't understand what she was saying because of her heavy accent. They also are late in responding to emails and the like, so avoid signing up with them at all costs!

I've tried a tonne of different hosts and registrars and after much experimentation I've settled on Hostgator + Namecheap.

Hostgator is the absolute best quality for the lowest price I've encountered in ten years of web design etc. Great speed, excellent set of features, top support and very low price.

Namecheap has the best user interface and, unlike GoDaddy, don't try to upsell you seventeen different times on every page.

Namecheap gives free whois guard with each registration, which GoDaddy charge extra for, and there are always coupons around so that it becomes cheaper than GoDaddy. Just search for "Namecheap coupon" and one of the two top search results will give you a discount.

Agreed. Hosting with Hostgator and domain registration with Namecheap. Hostgator has been great and their support has been very responsive. IMO, the Namecheap interface is much better than GoDaddy.

I couldn't agree with you more!

Namecheap is awesome- you can find coupons and usually get WhoIs Guard and SSL Certificate for FREE (oh yeah, I'm all about the Free!).

I usually use GoDaddy when searching for a domain name because if your first choice of domain name is not available, then GoDaddy will list a bunch of other choices on the right hand side of the page. Very helpful when you want to use a specific keyword!

HostGator is just as awesome- Coupons galore and very user friendly!

  • Rochen. HostGator can be slow if you get on the wrong server. And their support is okay but nothing special.

Push Host Gator a bit and they can and will shut you down with no warning.

If you care about your Business spend the money on a good host that owns their own equipment and isn't over sold.

If you won't get much traffic then Host Gator is fine.

And if you rely on single button upgrades you could be in for a big surprise down the road. Scripts tend to break. So make sure whomever you choose does a good job with backups and restores.

Hostgator + Namecheap for me as well. I originally used GoDaddy for domain registration, but thanks to the forums here, I discovered NameCheap.

To echo some of the same sentiments as those above, HostGator has excellent customer service. I also agree with Kezz in regard to not having to deal with excessive upsells (from GoDaddy). It gets a bit annoying.

    I would highly recommend Bluehost.com.

I'm hosting about twenty blogs with them without any problem. They offer "Simple Scripts" installation which is just one click for installing wordpress and also only one click to upgrade your blog to the latest version.

This is specially handy if you have a large number of blogs to upgrade each time a new wordpress version comes out - and that is very often as you will agree.

    Hope this will help you

I just started out in affiliate marketing and because I knew about godaddy through podcasts I used to listen to for months, godaddy was the best way to go.
I must say that you are right on the performance of the godaddy hosting. It is SLOW and I have been contacting support for that but they say everything is working as normal at the backend.

While in my affiliate training, I came across -- MattieBlazeHosting --
This would have many benefits especially because it is affiliate friendly.
Prices are not high compared to others and the ease of use is also good.
If it would help just check it out. It has been the recommended hosting company of Michael Jones known from the Clickbank Code.

Every WP installation has the "automatic" upgrade - you don't need GD for that. (You don't need GD at all, btw)

And nobody should host there anything. I don't even use them as a registrar and you shouldn't either.

I have just set up a blog using Go Daddy so haven't really had a chance to see the downside yet. If I move my blog elsewhere will I lose any of my content? Is it just a case of connecting to another host or are there any repurcussions in terms of the set up?

Host Gator is good and cheap, which seems to be the consensus on this thread. Also as another warrior said, Liquidweb is great if youre going the VPS route. Rackspace is another great option if youre going the dedicated route as well.

You can also check out the various hosting forums and look at the reviews. Always good to see the different view points.

But you really need to analyze what you are going to host. Do you need a lot of bandwidth, do you need a lot of space, how many sites are you going to host, do you care about SEO, if so you need to consider class C ip's.
What kind of site is it, personal blog, affiliate sites, product sites, larger more bandwidth intensive site, auto blog, etc. What goals do you have for the site.

As you can see, there are a bunch of factors to consider when choosing what hosting company you go with.

Just remember, cheapest isnt always the best option.

Good luck and do your homework
