Any Ideas how to Monetize this???

I may very well acquire a few link directories from a friend of mine. They have very high unique visitors every day/month. With lots more page views every month too. The way he monetizes them is paid banner ads, adsense and paid "featured or Premium" links.

The question is that one of these have 20,000+ Uniques a month with only about $200/month revenue with these methods. I would think there has to be a better way to monetize all that traffic. There is no opt in form and no ebook on link building or anything else that can be done to maximize the revenue.

I would be buying these from him if I can figure out a way to maximize the traffic, because right now I don't think it is being maximized very well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Yes, it can be further monetized. In fact, you already have a buyer's list to hit. Just offer them a special report on linkbuilding. Most people that buy directory listings are clueless to anything BUT directories.

    Also, consider tweaking the "thank you" page to offer the report as well.

    Offer a free product and give it away to build an opt-in list. Market products and/or services to your list be it your own or affiliate.

    As Mike Filsaime would say....."there are only 3 things you need in internet marketing, a list, a list and a list."

    Right now it is a "FREE" link directory, except he charges for Featured and Premium listings. I have checked out some other link directories and they charge a fee for different listings. Would you recomend sending a new price for all current listings as a lifetime listing fee for an extremely small amount and all new listings are at current listing rate?

    Basically change it to a paid listing sites than a free directory site. They have PR 4 and PR 5 each. What do you think about that?

      I sure wouldn't try that, maybe charge for any future listings but changing fee structure for existing free users is gonna sting.

      I'd say there's far more money in backend products and working an email ist.

      If you've got a stream of targeted visitors then you should be able to find a way to monetize it especially if you've got their contact info. Alhough many FREE seekers are just that. Only way to find out is to test.

      Maybe find a related CPL program for another free product or service in that niche.

    I would say that a 'list' is the way forward. Create, or get someone off here to create, a good free give away for your niche. (However you chose to capture the emails) Build your list and then sell to it, you have, possibly, perfect set up here for collecting names.

    Buy the sites before he works out how to monetize them better than he is now, if you don't I will, lol!
