Help! Clicks aren't converting -what's wrong with my landing page?

Hello Warriors,

I've written a bunch of articles and sent them to my landing page but the clicks to the site aren't bringing in sales! I'd like people's opinions or suggestions on what might be wrong and how to improve it. I'm not sure it's your technical "landing page" - I've made a mini-site and attempted to add quality content for SEO purposes. You hear that advice a lot, so I thought I'd do that.

Anyway, since I would like to convert clicks to sales, can you give me your suggestions? It's the Make Up Magic link in my signature.

How many daily visitors are you receiving?

Your landing 'blog' seems fine to me, it has good content. In my experience, content does sell because it is not the typical "me too" pitch that everyone is getting so used and bored about.

There are two things that could be a problem here. Your Clickbank hoplinks are not cloaked, so anyone could just add their own CB ID to the hoplink and take the commission themselves for a 'discount', which would result in you losing the sale.

Clickbank grows more popular everyday and even non IM niche people know about it, so commission theft is increasing in non IM niches as well.

And again, what is your daily traffic? You can only determine a conversion rate after so many visitors. If only 100 have visited well then don't be surprised.

    Hope this helps,

    Daniel

    Hi Diane,

There's 2 obvious things that hit me straight away:

    1. Sending people to a blog with lots of other content can often make the reader scan around, pick up a few tips and think "Ok, I'll go try what I've been taught here". Sure, it's great for SEO and providing value, but if you're trying to go for a direct response then this might be part of the problem.

    2. There's no real presell for the product that you're trying to sell. You need to send people directly to an opt in page and sell them via email, or you need to send them to a single page that simply reviews the product, or presells the solution by emphasizing the problems and then introducing a solution.

Ultimately, content sites like yours CAN sell a product, but if you give too much content away from the site, there's always a chance that the reader will not need to do anything else other than read your articles.

I know that's not the case, as your content will never cover the solution in such detail as the guide will, but the bottom line is that people need to be led down the path towards taking action.

It should be your #1 focus to jam that affiliate link right at the top, so that it's the first thing they see.

I'd also get rid of the ebook covers that have a white background on top of the lilac border...it looks rough in terms of design. It would be better to include them in your posts, top and bottom preferably.

Above all, each article or post needs to lead the visitor to the sale, ending with a clear call to action.

Not to mention that everyone seems to be selling Travis' product right now.

Including a lot of veterans that are having slumping sales on that book in particular.

      Try some new products.

      Good luck!

That too, there is high affiliate competition for that product.

I appreciate the information I'm getting! Thanks! You all have a point. I'm getting about 15-30 visitors a day for about a month now. I have gotten a few sale, just few and far between.

I realized the other day just how many people are promoting that product! The thing is that I had already made the website and written a bunch of articles. And I love the product so I'm not ready to scrap it just yet.

I'll have to check my content and try to make my call to action clearer. If I send people to a review site from this page, then that's a lot of pages to click on to get a sale....

Quite a bit to think about.

The competition doesn't mean anything once you've got them to your site. The competition would only affect the number of clicks on your actual articles OFF site, such as EzineArticles.com, or would affect your PPC clickthrough.

Once you've got the visitors to your blog, it makes absolutely no difference how many other people are competing to sell that same product.

Who says you have to send them anywhere else? Why not start sending people directly to a review, instead of just your blog's home page? In the review, you can still emphasize the problems and the solution before you get into the review stages. After that, I would test different landing pages, either a review style or a simple blog post that presells the product without reviewing it.

Remember, stories sell. Tell your readers a story about how you got your ex back and specifically why you think the solution is worth spending money on. The more you relate to your readers the better.

My 2c worth. I didn't even realise at first glance that there was an ebook to purchase. It seemed to me that the aim of the page was to get me to sign up to your newsletter. Perhaps you should swap the newsletter sign up boxes and the ebook promo around?

Well, the first part of the equation is to convert visitors to clicks, and then clicks to sales.

Your landing page is too busy and unfocused.

Blogs usually have terrible conversions when compared to straight HTML landing pages because they are not as focused.

The only thing in the top-fold area of your LANDING page should be the offer, or a pre-sell for the offer.

Your story, or your opt-in, or whatever.

                That is it.

Not videos from youtube, not a bunch of blog stuff - THE OFFER.

So first of all, start tracking your CTR, click thru rate.

If you get 100 visitors a day and you're referring 10 CB hops a day, then you have a 10% CTR.

Try to get that to 30% or more.

Then you're actually "tripling" your traffic without really adding more traffic. Make sense?

Then from there, you measure conversions and see how things go.

Regardless, I can absolutely guarantee you that simple and focused will outsell busy and cluttered.

Every time without question, save for a very few unexplainable anamolies.

                -Chris

Yes, I am with you on that. It's not at all obvious that there is an ebook for sale on that blog. It would be easy to read the blog and not realize at all that there is an ebook for sale. It should be glaringly obvious. It's a well designed blog with a lot of great info, but it's not set up to convert.

Thanks for the encouragement and pointing out the flaws! I have to decide whether to do anything to it, or just focus on a review site/landing page idea.

I would have to strongly disagree with you, the bounce rate is there for a reason. If someone is not sold by her blog, they will go look for another source or review. So most likely people who are using some sort of interception method (such as Chris' Conduit Method) will get the sale. There is no such thing as 0% bounce rate.

Although less bounce rate does mean more sales and also less affiliate competition means a higher chance your solid review/pitch will make the sale and not someone elses.

The conduit style is a very viable alternative, all those bounce rates will end up in someone elses page using such methods taking the sale.

              In more simple terms:

Visitor A lands on her blog and is not convinced. Visitor A goes to Google and does a search for the product. Conduit affiliates have dominated page 1 of the Google search results for that search term (the product's name). Conduit affiliate takes the sale.

Grab your all time unique visitors and multiply that number by the bounce rate, that is an estimate of how much potential sales your are losing to conduit affiliates.

Low affiliate competition means a lot less conduit affiliates and a MUCH higher chance of ranking in page 1 for the product's name on the search results and therefore a much higher chance the visitor goes back to your page for the affiliate click through.

In the majority of affiliate programs, the affiliate cookie is replaced if another affiliate link is clicked and gives credit to the last affiliate linked clicked. All CB affiliate programs work like this.

Not to mention that if there is a lot of affiliates for any given product, chances are the visitor (who has already been looking around for a solution to a specific problem) has already seen the product before and was either not interested or already has it.

Great advice!!! This may give me some clues as to why I have not made a sale on one of my blogs dealing with health.

I think it would be better to write articles and link to a review style landing page rather than a blog. Give it a try and see which way converts better! You're allowed to change the links in your ezinearticles, by the way. If this way isn't working for you - try something different. Create a review style landing page, write a bunch of articles linking to it, see if you get better results. Successful marketing is a matter of trial and error.

Also keep in mind that people who report that they are making a lot of money with article marketing are writing a LOT of articles. 5 or 10 a day is not an unreasonable amount.

Not being flipper but, at first I thought "Makeup Magic" was about cosmetics.

Do you know the search terms bringing your traffic?
Maybe the traffic is looking for cosmetic tips?

Even though there is a lot of competition most people I know would hope to never see their EX again much less reconcile.

There are like 6 Billion+ people on the planet. Surely there are others that might be a better match.

Dreaming about getting back together might be a self esteem issue. Maybe a book geared towards building self esteem and finding a better mate replacement that makes the ex look like a mistake would bank more $.

Also, from experience and reading others reports;"falling in love" with a product can cause one to make bad business decisions.

So, you spent time on the site. Not working, sell it and move on?
Or test some adwords to find some winners.

As they say 1 ebook is not a "business"

Too much good free info there. For your niche, you need to tease them into the links. I was able to read over the site and say cool I will remember these tips. The problem was that there was enough information for me to read through and get tired of reading before I ran out of material. So in this sense there was no need to click the links because I was already exposed to a great enough dose of info.

Thanks guys! I'm getting some really good tips here! I can definitely think of ways to improve and change things. I'm excited to start implementing some of them!

You're also right that this is just ONE product, there are so many more out there! I'm really glad I asked this question, sometimes when you look at your own page you're kind of blind to it's faults!
