How am I doing so far? (noob!)

Hi guys.

I've been reading a ton of things on this forum for the last few days and have decided to compliment my product sales project with some promo affiliate work in my music niche.

These are the steps I've taken so far:

Set up a blog on blogger, start writing insightful, useful content.
Submit the blog to google.
Trade links with other bloggers.
Incorporate the blog link into my signature on forums.
Sign up with Clickbank and choose a couple of quality products to start promoting.
Promote my Clickbank products (as well as my own) in my blog in a subtle but encouraging way.

The next thing I will be doing is working on keywords to help rank my blog, and then I will work on some articles which promote the products, and/or my blog.

I've also got a notepad in my office where I'm writing down tons of new ideas for products, market gaps, strategies etc, so I'm planning on EXPERIMENTING and REFINING, before I rinse and repeat.

How am I doing so far? Any more tips?

Thanks again.

Condra, sounds like you are off to an auspicious start - you are likely to succeed as you have the mindset to take action.

Look at article marketing next (search Warrior for advice) and you will get extra traffic. Often your already-indexed blog articles can be suitable for article directories as-is or with little modification.

Search for "Alexa Smith" on here for some good tips on article marketing and choosing clickbank products - but in a nutshell avoid clickbank products that have opt-in mailing lists as you may lose commissions as the vendor has a chance to make a direct sale (out of clickbank) to the customer.

If you want a good product to promote, I have regace.com (registry cleaner) which I am the vendor, I also promote it as an affiliate to see it from the other point of view. I am making money donig article marketing on this with a landing page.

    Good luck

One piece of advice. Buy your own domain name with your own hosting account and start building "your" presence on the internet. With the blogger account you will have a difficult time ever building the backlinks that you need for success.

Not trying to burst your bubble but this is such a small investment to make in what will hopefully be a long term venture for you. This is something you should do from the very beginning.

I'll agree with the suggestion to search out Alexa Smith's posts, she has an interesting and effective take on article marketing.

The other person you need to check out closely is Zeus66. Some of the posts he has recently written on writing articles are brilliant.

Their two approaches are somewhat different, but by seeing both of them you can have a good idea of both ends of the spectrum.

John is a marketer, who is also a talented writer. Alexa is an excellent writer, who knows how to market.

Hopefully they both agree with that very simple assessment.

When those two post on article marketing, I pay attention.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Theemperor, cheers for the tips. I'll look up Alexa and see what I can find. I've got the hop for Regace, I'll see what I can do

Homebizoutlook, I already have a domain name and hosting, and I'm planning on attaching more doawin names to that hosting, soon as I can figure out what names I want, and how to do that with my hosting guys.

You are off to a very good start. I can echo the advice to start now on another 1-2 marketing mechanisms. Article marketing is a good place to begin as most of us can write a decent 250+ word article in about 30 minutes (or less).

I'd also look at creating some videos and submitting those using tubemogul.

    Best of luck!

Great, you're ahead of a lot of people already :-p. Just go out there and get the word about your blog out (e.g. article marketing, blog commenting), work twice as hard as other people, and good things will happen to you.

You are doing great. Thank you for posting WHAT YOU'VE DONE. Action is the key.

What I'd really suggest you do is to target your keyword phrases immediately and optimize your site for them.

When you get links from other webmasters try to get them to link to your homepage or subpages using the keyword phrase(s) you want that page to rank for.

For example, if I wanted loseweightquickly.com to rank for "Lose Weight Quickly" and "Lose Weight Fast" I would have others link to my site with the following anchor texts:

    Lose Weight Quickly

    Lose Weight Fast

    and NOT "http://www.loseweightfast.com"

That right there is the next step you should implement immediately if you want to start seeing real traffic/results from your hard work.

Great job, dude. Keep it up and it will come. As you grow, find ways to automate/outsource your work so you can scale up the process. Invest back into your business and you'll make much more in the long run doing a lot less work.

When I started internet marketing, the hardest thing for me, and what took me the longest was actually DOING something.
I was like a kid with a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle in front of him. Well once you actually start get a few pieces together, the picture starts to form and becomes much easier as you go.

It sounds like you are on the right road. You have started taking real steps, and you have a basic plan to follow. Some people start without a plan and end up like a loose cannon.

I would agree with the person who said try and get your own domain if you can. That way you own the site, and do not have to worry about Blogger deciding to take your blog down for some odd reason, and your work being wasted.

Other than that keep hammering away!

I meant to ask, is it ok to post Clickbank hop-links on blogger/ezine? Or will that get me into trouble?!

If so, would it make sense to tinyurl them?

      Thanks.

I'm not sure on Blogger, but on EzineArticles it is a big red flag and your articles will not be approved. Their Terms of Service forbid sending directly to an affiliate offer.

If you own any domain names, you can send them to it, and do a redirect. If you don't own a name yet, it would be a really good $10 investment to have at least one.

Even the TinyUrl is not going to help. EzineArticles are reviewed by humans, and they will catch what you are doing.
