Drop-in, slide-in, pop-up, footer, static opt-in?

I just added a drop-in opt-in form to my website offering a free report but would like to know if anyone has tested what works best?

Drop-in box from top or side (sliding or not)
Pop-up that doesn't get blocked by pop-up blockers
Footer (like ultimate footer)
Static opt-in..opt-in box placed within website..top, left, right, within text
Link (with small description) placed on page redirects to an opt-in web page

Also do you prefer double or single opt-in?

Thanks in advance

Lol,I almost thought you were singing the Hannah Montanna song there!

I personally prefer the slide in box from top/side.
Although on my website I have the ones that come up after a few seconds and the website itself turns dark in the background and all you can see is the opt-in offer and then you have to close it to exit.I don't know what its called but I guess that should be a pop-up.

I also have a static one on the website just in case someone decides to opt-in later.

Everyone's site and audience are different for what's appropriate for them.
If you're going to use a hover form (sliders, popins, lightbox, etc) don't have
the form immediately appear on the page. They are best used when set to
display at 70-80% of your average page view time.

Good point by tkulzer. It's always dependent on your niche. Some niches do better with pop up optins and some hate it.

I've gotten the best results by using an easy exit pop up optin for my mini niche sites that I get search engine traffic from. I don't like pop up optins for my authority sites though. It seems to ruin the relationship I build with my readers a little bit.

You want to look at it in their prospective.

A lightbox popover wins for me everytime. Followed by footer, then the static generic text opt-in form.

Footer works well for me, and comment area opt-in form!

I guess footer works well because it's not annoying, and it's something like a permission base kind of thing, it doesn't stop the reader reads whatever on the screen, it pop under/slide up nicely, and it doesn't eat up a lot of space, like WHOLE SCREEN.

comment area opt-in form works well too, if a website or blog is super busy and the blogger/site owner is encouraging people to comment.

But it has to be done with utmost discreet because if you're doing it the wrong way, it could end up getting people complaining about the opt-in.

Generally, I do single opt-in, because too many times that I got people not confirming upon using double opt-in.

    Hope this helps.

    Aiden.
