WHY CANT I REPLY WITHOUT HAVING 50 POINTS OR MORE? IF PEOPLE ARE PMING ME I SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO ATLEAST REPLY TO THEM!

I don't know why anyone would be sending PM's to a member who joined yesterday - unless they are trying to sell you something.

The pm function cannot be used until you reach a certain number of posts or join as a paid member of the War Room.

You don't have "rights" - unless the owner of forum grants them to you. You don't need pm's to learn something here.

Please do not 'release balloons' for celebrations. The balloons and trailing ribbons entangle birds and kill wildlife and livestock that think the balloons are food.

You are not getting off to a good start with the entitled CAP thread!

To be honest, regarless of the caps etc, that is a point.

It's frustrating to recieve lots of PM's and not be able to answer. 50 replies takes some time, if you want them to be quality.

I had to answer a few pm's within a thread, as I had no other option.

I see it's purpose, but it is 100% frustrating.

Also, I had no idea I could just but into the War room and bypass the 50 post limit. Surely adding that sales pitch in the PM area for new members will no doubt increase sales and save the frustration. (if it is added, its obviously not clear enough, im reasonably intelligent and I missed it)

I'm not 100% sure you can. I thought you needed fifty posts, end of story - War Room or no. I've never seen any official statement otherwise, although I have seen a lot of knowledgeable and trustworthy people say it unofficially. Does anyone know for sure, i.e. "I joined the War Room before I had fifty posts and could send PMs" or the like?

To close the loop here, I've just received an actual PM from a War Room member with only five posts. That's about as official as it gets.

You ain't special Bucky, the same rules apply to everyone here.
If you don't like them either shut up and deal with them or leave.

By the way the reason is to prevent spammers from joining the forum just to PM members their crap.

What do the following three things have in common:
    1. A lead balloon...
    2. Swearing in church...
    3. And the original post?

Features and benefits, Dan. You don't want a lead balloon. You want to show people that a lead balloon can fly. And that's not what you want, either - you really just want people to look at you in admiration and awe. :p

I'll send you a PM with the answer!

Seriously, those who sent you a PM likely know that with your low post count you can't reply - they can always stick their e-mail address in the PM. An you have posted some contact information on your profile, so this is another method that they can get in touch with you.

Otherwise you should just concentrate on making some valuable posts - preferably without your CAPS LOCK key on!

I have a sneaking suspicion this guy won't last long after his first ban expires. Not based on what I saw in his other posts.

I can understand two people getting rude with each other, for the most part. I've pretty much had it with folks getting rude with the whole group, just to show off their bad breeding.

...there once was a new member that claimed he was getting PM's and couldn't reply when he really wasn't getting PM's at all, he just wanted to be able to spam members via PM's and thought claiming he couldn't reply might affect policy, which of course, it didn't.

I'm not saying the OP would try that tactic, I'm just sayin' . . .

See, Kirk? That's how you make a point like this. Calm. Rational. Proper use of the shift key.

Of course, it didn't help that your other posts were talking about sending hundreds of thousands of bulk emails, and defining spam based on CAN-SPAM. When you get back, PM me (yes, you can send me a PM) with the location in the act where Congress defines 'spam.'

Hint: You'll be looking for a very long time, unless they amend it. It ain't in there.

Anything that sounds like it might even be considering the possible future option of maybe promoting spam, sort of, is forbidden here. The normal response is disembowelment with a rusty fish, but your pleasant post in this thread touched my heart and moved me to sympathy.

The fact that one of those posts looked suspiciously like an ad didn't improve the situation, either.

                Well I just learned something!

I attended a Led Zeppelin concert in 1976, which I thought was just great. But the reviewer in the newspaper the next day didn't share my opinion, and the headline on his review read "Led Zeppelin Like Lead Balloon".

Until today I thought a lead balloon couldn't fly!

      Guys, Does spam really sell?

Do these idiots make any profit from their spam??

Spammers are so persistent, to a limit I wonder how this practice is profitable that they chase it all the time?

Spammers are much more than marketers, anyone can explain?

There are two types of spammers. Some are wannabes that buy into the easy money, just send an email lure, most of these I'd guess don't make much money. Then there are the professionals. They know it's a numbers game. They know if they send 5 million emails they're going to make some money.

If people would just quit buying from spammers, it would taper off. It wouldn't disappear because there will always be wannabes who get suckered, but it would taper off. No one keeps repeating a behavior if they're not getting the desired results. Well, no one except the insane.

The good thing is that most get caught and get severe punishment!

However, bank robbers steal money. You can replace money.

          Spammers steal time.

I wonder how many extra levels of the underworld Dante would create if he were to write The Inferno today. All I know is spammers would be way down there.

                  MissTerraK,

"Ma'am" is, according to both my upbringing and my Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 7th Edition a polite way of addressing a woman; equivalent to the use of "Sir" to address a man.

It implies respect in common usage.

We properly raised Southern boys and some properly raised Northern Yankee fellers like Paul Myers just don't know no better than to use the term as a sign of respect when addressing a fine lady.

                  Have a fantastic day, ma'am!

                  Respectfully,

                  Elmer

Mind you, Ma will be tickled pink to hear that someone said such a thing about me.

I have a saying that seems to fit here: "A woman is to be treated like a lady until she proves she isn't."

This thread is useful in its own way.

It serves as a reminder or warning depending on who you are.

As far as the entertainment value goes, well, a lot of threads are entertaining, but that doesn't detract from their usefullness.

I was coming back from a business trip in Atlanta, and the group I was with stopped to eat lunch at the Shoney's in Murfreesboro, TN. I had to use the restroom. I was walking in, and a younger gentleman was walking out. As we jostled past each other he said, "Pardon me, sir." That was the first time I was called sir by someone other than salesperson or cashier. I must admit it made me feel a bit old, but since then...

Let's just say, if any of you wish to address me as Sir Oksa from here on out, that's just fine and dandy with me.

Oh, isn't that the vegetable that has no taste and rolled in some corn meal and deep fried with some hush puppies or something?:p

I think I had some of that down south, liked it about as much as the grits, that I had to load with butter, sugar, and milk to to swallow it!

You may indeed have had fried okra here in the south. The trick is getting the coating right and not overdoing it. Okra is also one of the main ingredients of a good gumbo.

Grits is definitely an acquired taste. Some like the butter, sugar and milk routine. I like mine loaded with shrimp, onions, garlic and cheddar cheese, like a casserole. At breakfast, next time someone tries to inflict grits on you, skip the butter, sugar and milk. Use sausage gravy instead...

Like scotch, I acquired the taste the first time I had them. I like my grits with butter and a little pepper.

For the folks who say this should be in OT... Nah. The start of the thread shows some useful lessons for new folks, and the rest is just the usual thread devolution.

Paul, the first few times someone served me grits, they were cooked like runny cream of wheat. Kind of like cutting Glenlivet with orange soda...

Now I can see some nice thick creamy grits with a dab of butter and some fresh cracked black pepper - or even a squirt of hot sauce - being mighty fine with my ham and eggs...

Miss Terra, Gumbo is the Cajun/Creole version of Whatchagot Stew. Just about everybody has a recipe, and none of them are exactly the same.

The main ingredients are whatever protein you have (sausage, chicken and shrimp make a nice combination), the 'trinity' (2 parts onion, 1 part each onion and green bell pepper), chile peppers, tomatoes, okra (mostly for thickening) and whatever else you care to throw in the pot. Cook until flavors are melded together, and serve over hot rice.

If you like gumbo, you can move on to other delicacies like Shrimp Creole, Dirty Rice, red beans and rice and Crawfish Etouffe.

Just save room for the coconut cake and the pecan pie...
