I have noticed a lot lately that I may sign up for "Bubba's Internet Marketing Essentials" and as such I expect to receive offers from Bubba and company. Yet on the very same day or at least within the first week, I receive countless offers from Bubbette, Bubay, Baboy and many others "associated with" Bubba. While this may be an extreme oversimplification, if I submit my name to your mailing list under your name and I receive an email from your company, I consider it to be spam as I cannot be expected to know this is your company name. (Especially true when your company name is nothing like the name of the list I signed up for) Likewise, if I submit my approval to receive emails from your company and I receive emails from a bunch of people (who may be legitimately a part of your company name but) whom I do not know or recognize, I am going to assume that it is spam and mark it as such. Your little reassurance that I can unsubscribe gives me no incentive to click a link to unsubscribe to an email from a name I do not recognize and whose name I have never expected to receive an email from. Even on a linux box, I am wary of viruses and if you are marketing under one name, please keep it under that name for all of the emails you send me. If I sign up for Bubba, I expect emails from Bubba and emails from XYZ corporation do not get my attention but only make me think that someone ... maybe even "Bubba" ... is selling or sharing my name.

I agree, you opted in to one list, not 600 thousand.

If I know an easy way how, i'd even take the time to report them.

In a similar vein, I find it frustrating when one signs up for IM course x and then get pitches from the owner of course x for course y, z, etc. by someone else.

One of the things these people teach you is to stick to one course, and avoid information overload - but their behaviour is hardly conducive to that advice

Another thing is phone calls. I've had 3 IM companies ring me up in the past couple of months and their sales people are horrendous. I feel like saying "Excuse me, can you stop reading the script and talk to me like I am an individual?". They also tell me I am "highly qualified". Evidently this means that I have a valid credit card - because the only information they have (besides my phone number!) is that I paid for the original course with a credit card...

      Rant over.

I often see this problem when people just copy promotional emails from affiliate pages.

They forget to change the name name or company at the bottom.
This only shows that they don't care about me as a subscriber so "SPAM"

I myself try to make it more personal and safe.
