Ok, brief introduction:

August 25th, a little over a month ago, I read a post on a poker forum about a guy that bought a couple websites and made 100% roi on them in a year. I liked the idea.

Between then and now I bought several domains and built several sites. I've learned the basics of html, css, php, and mysql.

Right now, here's where I'm at on sites after a little over a month.

One is a streaming TV show site that is making about $1/day through adsense and about $5/day through CPALead, but I'm afraid my traffic will shut down quick, as my main source of traffic is coming from a site that doesn't allow links with CPALead.

I have a poker site that is making about $5-$10 a week through incentive CPA offers. This site requires a lot of updating and maintenance though.

I have a dog training guide site that has made 1 $25 sale in the past month. I didn't do much promoting. I built the site, through up about 25 social bookmarks and about 15 articles, then left it to work on my poker site.

Where I stand now, I feel like I've learned enough about building and advertising sites that I should be able to make at least $300 this month. I've been working 14 hour days learning programming/design, writing articles, advertising on yahoo answers, social bookmarking, etc. I NEED to see a payoff to be able to keep this up. I'm giving myself one more month to see results and then I'm throwing in the towel.

I'll keep this thread updated with how things go this month. If I have time I'll collect all my writings on the past month and make a chronological post describing my first month.

I don't want to post links to my sites and be labeled a spammer. But, I do want to post my dog training site to get reviews on it. This is the site I'm going to be pushing this month for results and I want expert opinions on how I can make it better.

The dog training site is www.dogtrainerpro.info. I've submitted 20 articles yesterday and 20 articles today to different article sites. I've submitted 25 social bookmarks each day. I'm going to start joining and contributing to dog forums and yahoo answers tonight. Please, I need all the help I can get this month. I want this to work more than anything.

Should I go for a straight landing page and try selling hard? Should I go with more content? Maybe a combination? I know a lot of article sites won't let you link to a sub-page, only the home page. Should I buy a new domain for a landing page?

Thanks for any advice.

p.s. Great forum guys, it's helped a lot with my learning, thanks.

You are to be commended for your efforts and you're
definitely on the right track, particularly with learning
all about web design. However you must give affiliate
marketing a little more time. It supposedly takes the
average person 6-12 months to see tangible results.
Please do yourself a favor and don't give up too soon

it's great that you've come so far in such a short time but you have a fundamental problem......

      You're not in business.

You seem to have not yet decided what business you're in.

When you started making money with your first site - why didn't you keep building on that success? how come you're in 3 niches and none of them properly?

I think you would do better to take a step back and make a decision about what your business is before you quit after one more month of unfocused effort.

    Thanks guys

Andy, I shotgun approach. Cover a wide area and look at the results and see what was most effective, what I enjoy, what I'm capable of, etc.

Now that I've tried everything, I've decided to focus on my dog training site. I don't expect to be able to retire after one month. I just want to see progress.

You guys have more experience than me at this though. So maybe you can help set my goals. I had the idea in my head of 10 sales this month. Working 12ish hours per day doing everything myself, articles, design, advertising, etc. Is that unreasonable?

The results depend on your model.

What did your research tell you that this market wanted?

How many different types of products are you offering them?

Are you acting as an affiliate, monetising the traffic with cpa/adsense or selling your own products?

What price range do your market spend at and what are they already buying?

Do you have enough access to this market that you can reasonably expect the revenue you're hoping for mid-long term?

Your goal's realistic but I also wouldn't just quit if it doesn't work out as you hoped after a month.. you're only starting, you can't expect results straight away.. at the same time no matter what you accomplish (be it short of your goal) still be grateful you at least made it that far! Most people wouldn't even be able to do that.

I agree to focus on one thing (your dog training site) it's looking good, you're on the right path with it, just continue to crank out the articles and split test often and you'll see results quicker. GL!

10 hops today and I'm sure some of those are from people from this site or my testing clicks.. 1 clickthrough on adsense for a horrible CTR . No sales. Not many of my articles have been published yet. Hopefully once they start getting published I'll see a traffic boost. I imagine I need to be getting about 50 hops a day to sell 10 articles in a month.

Ok, I know I haven't updated this thread as much as I should. It is so easy to get sidetracked in this internet marketing stuff, to bite off more than you can chew. I must be registered for over 500 forums now and I don't have any software to keep track of that stuff.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and brag about having my first $1,000 day today. About two weeks after making this original post, I hit a niche that finally started making enough to pay the bills. Ever since then I've been expanding and trying to replicate and it is working pretty well.

I am working on writing up a step-by-step follow along to what I've learned so far and I'll be sure to keep that one updated more often than I kept this thread, now that I have the extra time because the income is coming and I don't have to worry about bills so much. It's time I start giving back to the community. I've already gained so much by lurking.

Hard to understand how you could have a $1k day when your blog post today is showing less than $50. The site links in your blog lead to error pages - the dog site you said you would be focusing on is not completed and does not load properly.

Your blog has 9 posts and all seem to have been posted today????
