Looking for some help with a "technical glitch"

I am trying to upload a squeeze page to my new website. I am using Core ftp lite which I have used numerous times before without problems. For the past two days over several attempts I keep getting an error message saying page not found, you've haven't uploaded anything or uploaded incorrectly, or the URL is incorrect...blah, blah, blah. I'm sure you've seen this before.

I created a public html directory in Core ftp lite and placed my squeeze page in there. It show that data transferred when I go through the upload process but when I type the URL address into my browser (Mozilla) I get the error message described above.

Any thoughts as to why this isn't working?

I would appreciate any comments and help.

Peter

Hi, a couple of things you can do first, make sure you have enough space on your host and second, go to control panel and upload the file into the public directory Check the file name and extension.

The file name part of an URL is case sensitive.
So typing in yoursite.com/myfile.htm will return an error if the file name is actually MyFile.htm

This is a very common reason that a file will not display.

Did you actually transfer a folder called "public html"? That folder would have already been on your server (usually, public_html -- but it could be different on your server). Normally, what one would do is transfer files into the public_html folder *on the server*. It could be that your files are sitting in a subfolder, i.e., public_html/public html/filename.html

Once you're connected to your server with CoreFTP Lite, go to the right hand side and search for the public_html folder. Double-click on that to get into that folder and then transfer your files into that folder.

Just re-reading your post: or did you create a folder on your server called "public html". If so, as I said above, there should have been a folder already on your server. It's into that folder that you transfer your files.

    Hope that helps,

You say you created a Public directory. Usually the root directory of your domain is considered the 'Public' directory.

I get the impression that maybe you are searching for: yourdirectory.com/yourfile.html but if you physically created a directory called 'public' and uploaded your new page there, you should be searching for: yourdirectory.com/public/yourfile.html

If you want your new file to appear in the top level domain, take it out of the new directory you've created and just upload it to the root.

    Cheers
