How To Get More Views For Your Articles

I have got some of my articles on the most view section of ezinearticles due to some of the backlinks I build to these articles but no matter how I try, my average don't seem to get past 100 views per article.

Warriors, do you have any secret you want to share? How do you get more views for your articles?

I have tried social bookmarking, Angela and Paul's backlinks e.t.c.

Go for social bookmarking of your articles in Ezine. That is, digg, reddit, stumble your ezine articles separately. That should bring in some more views and if done efficiently, it can easily cross the 100 mark.

I just posted this in another thread, but here's some food for thought:

You can use the views on your articles as a guage of what's working and what isn't. If you notice some subjects getting way more views than others, you know it's a hot topic. If you change styles or do something else and see a large drop or increase in views, you know what works and what doesn't.

I agree you should try to drive traffic there, but don't artificially inflate the numbers, if you want to analyze your articles later.

How do you get your Digg counts up? If your articles do not get repeated Diggs, doesn't that affect the benefit of bookmarking? Some articles have hundreds and thousands of Diggs. How do they get so high?

So while bookmarking is a good idea, is it not just the first phase of bookmarking? Do you not somehow have to get people to view your articles and Digg them? Then, how do you do that?

It is very hard to get your diggs up naturally, it must be something really funny or interesting and you still have to promote your digg bookmarks as well. If you have been on a digg for a while and you have established yourself there and have lot of contacts that would help. Otherwise you can use website called mikroworkes.com to get your diggs up.

          mikroworkes.com ?

That doesn't go anywhere. I guess you mean microworkers.com as that site enables you to hire people to Digg your stuff. You just reminded me of another site I saw not long ago with that type of service. Hm. Wonder what it was.

People will make their minds up eventually. If you promote rubbish then it does not matter how many diggs you got it won't do you much good, but if you promote something good and useful then maybe it is not so unethical after all to artificially boost it a little bit. For social bookmarking sites, it is very hard for them to find out as the people who "vote it up" so to speak are all over the world. There is change to get banned if you open up multiple account yourself from the same IP address.

Have you ever wondered how some of the digg bookmarks got hundreds of diggs but the story itself was so bad that anybody in their right mind should have not digg it.

And how many people using bookmarking sites just to organize their bookmarks and share these with their friends , 99.9 % of the bookmarks are some sort of promoting one way or another. And as I said if you promoting something useful and you are not doing it in spammy way I suppose it is ok.

Most of the people in the most viewed section of ezines broke the websites TOS and used paid traffic to visit the web page and manipulate the viewing statistics.

    DO NOT DO THIS!

Have you done proper keyword research and competition SEO analysis?

I make sure I do proper keyword researches for all my articles. I also ensure there are at least 2 web 2.0 properties on the first 10 pages of google.

yes its not right but its true if you see more than 1000 views for an article which doesnt deserve that view ..most proble that views are purchased from ptc sites or from other source..this method works and people use it to generate backlinks for there sites..

You can promote the article in your blog or website. Do a back link to the article with the appropriate keyword. It should help.

      Hiya Yommy,
Lots of factors affect this. Much depends on your Keywords, Title and Summary. Is the topic "hot", does it stand out and is not simply word pulp or spun gunge. Make your Title/s stand out. Backlink to your article/s as well to lift them (from good not naughty sites).
In the end tho - you should be looking for pickups & reprints rather than just views. If you get reprints - that equals heaps of backlinks to your article and works longer that just a short burst of "views" - so write better articles. Backlinks last and are spread out across the web.
Then you need to consider the time of submission with some directories (ie day of week & time of day) If your articles get published at midnight in your target zone and lots of articles then get on top of you - you dont get seen. Social networking is good, you need to test who picks up your link. PM me if you'd like some more hints.

You need to tell us a different statistic for this to make any sense. Not how many views you are getting on EzineArticles, but where are your articles ranking in the search engines?

Your articles are going to get eyeballs from the search engines, and far less from people browsing EzineArticles. You will get a burst of early traffic from getting the article on to Ezine, while it is the newest, freshest article on the topic. Then it will start to slide in views from Ezine's internal traffic.

Also, please clarify, you stated 2 Web 2.0 sites in the first 10 PAGES of Google. I assume you meant in the first 10 sites listed on Google, at least I hope so.

So, Where are your articles ranked in Google for your selected keywords? Where are they ranked on Yahoo? Where are they ranked on Bing?

When I said first 10 pages, I mean page 1. I have several article on page 1 with little to no traffic.

For example, I have an article written around a keyword that gets about 200 visits per day on page 1 # 4 but it has only been viewed 80. The article was published January 23, 2010.

Another keyword getting 1,279 visits per day according to seo book ( almost the same with google keyword tool ), appears on page 1 # 3 but has only gotten 99 views from December 05, 2009. The only difference is that I made 3 sales with this particular article.

Like someone wrote above... too many marketers are getting obsessed with number of viewes and CTR their articles are getting. It is all about making sales.

One can trick a lot of readers into clicking on his article with attention grabbing title. But if the article sucks he isn't going too many clicks through... and even the clicks through don't guarantee making sales.

Personally, as long as I am getting sales I don't care too much about article views and CTR. Of course, both of these factors are very important but still... it is all about making sales. And one can get a sale or two from a well written, interesting article with 20 ~ 50 views and 5 ~ 10 clicks through.

            Just my $0.0002.

Along the same lines of this original question, I have a few queries regarding article views that I do not quite get.

Obviously the reason for doing the keyword research initially is in the hope that an article can find its way on page #1 for the chosen keyword phrase by identifying a phrase that is getting some searches but has relatively small competition. I have done this for ages for each & every article I write. Part of the keyword research i have been taught to do is to check the 'real' competition by putting the search term in inverted commas.

The best ranking for one of my articles is Google pg1 #9 in this test. but remove the " " again and its nowhere. People do not search in inverted commas so what have I gained optimising for that in the first place?

This leads on to my assumption that (without paying for BS traffic), article views being above say 500 will only happen from getting high ranking in the SERPS.

Am I missing something important here, guys?

PS. I have a non- profit site with a couple of attached blogs and I wrote an article for one and sent the blog post to Digg and 2 hours later both were on Pg #1 for the article title. No keyword research or anything for this one! Bugger if I can do that for a profit site, though!

Don't get hung up on views only. Or clickthrus. Only SALES put money in your bank account.

I have articles with hundreds, even thousands of views but no sales.

Yet I'll get a sale, look at the source and find the article has all of 11 views.

I'll take that all day long.

Make more, work less, emulate what brings in sales.

When I post an article on EZA, I use all my traffic generation techniques on that article until it hits the top viewed spot. This really boosts that website traffic.

It sounds like you are just trying to backlink your articles. Actually try and generate traffic to it like it was your website. Blog comment with its URL, write other articles point to it and post on other article directories, use twitter and facebook to get people there.

I like to do this for articles that point to my best articles on my website (the ones that really convert for me). Getting that top viewed really helps boost the traffic from EZA and in my opinion is the only time EZA pays off.

I'm not saying stray off of doing all these things for your website articles as well, but get 10 articles in a niche on the top viewed category and your website will be fine.

Other than social bookmarking, Angela and Paul's backlinks methods, you have to try to get your article listed on Google keyword search on top # 5, That will more hits/views to your article.

You can do more blog commenting on your niche related blogs and other methods too to get more traffic.

I do not know If the big article directories promote their articles or the writer has to do all the work himself. We only have small article directory but we are actively promoting all the articles that have been approved in our directory.

When the articles gets published on our directory we right away start promoting it trough our social media channels and most of the articles get 10 -50 views in fist half an hour.

We have also been working on our RSS feeds and we have been spreading them around and I have noticed that it has tremendously helped to get people to view new articles. I still have not really worked out all the benefits of RSS feeds but we keep working on it as it seem to be very powerful marketing tool.

Also we have some targeted email lists that we use for relevant articles and that works very well.

Yes, digg, propeller and some other directories don't accept ezinearticles, goarticles, hubpages and squidoo.

If you have a list of subscribers, you can send them an email about your new article. Just put a teaser in the email and a link to the the full article at EZA.

This should boost your views and it's actually real people reading it.

Well, views are good but I don't think sending them to a list of mine makes any sense to me. I want views + cltr and not views alone. Article views are useless if no one is clicking on the links.

Sending a link to my list doesn't make any sense to me. I can only it but only because I want them to read it and not to generate views if you understand what I mean.

@sylviad I was in two minds about all of the social bookmarking I was told to do until recently. I just did it through onlywire simply because someone said it was a good idea. I have often wondered what good it did as, to have the time to go around creating a big friend network in all of the sites would be almost impossible - it takes enough time just writing and blogging and researching keywords without having to be 'Mr. Sociable' on umpteen different sites.

But then last weekend, I posted an article on a non-profit blog of mine and submitted it to Digg. Within 2 hours the digg was on page 1 (so was my article but that was further down). So I guess occassionally one can get lucky.

PS. My question about whether ArticlePrince spins/rewrites articles which backlink to his ezine submissions was not answered. Do any of you guys have advice on this please?

I understand bookmarking but having people to digg or vote for you is not ethnical in my opinion.

I find the comments on Digg really interesting. I have created several different niche sites where a simple Digg entry hit the front page within a day. My blog may have been a page or two deeper still, but I started getting some traffic by people following through the Digg post.

These were all niches with under 30,000 competing phrase match pages, and the number of backlinks on some of the top 10 sites were under 30.

I don't think there is any reason you need a group of people Digg'ing your articles, unless you are talking about a much more competitive phrase.

In these cases, I ended up with my blog on page 1 or 2, Digg on page 1, usually a Weebly, Squidoo, or Hubpage also on page 1 or 2. With a little extra backlink work, the blogs eventually snuck onto page 1.

Something just struck me when I looked at your profile again. When you do your rank checking, are you checking it against US based Google Data Centers, or are you checking against local Nigerian data centers?

You may be listed #3 on page 1 in Nigeria, but on page 2 in the USA, which would of course make a huge difference in traffic. How do you check your page rank?

The essence of article marketing is to make sales. Higher article does not translate to sales. If you have lesser and making sales, then your main objective of article marketing is achieved.

For me I will be very happy make sales with every 2 views rather than having 1000 views without a single sale.

I agree with you there but who wouldn't like to have the two? There are people here doing it, just that I have not been able to crack the code.

Articles are a way of generating traffic, but not the only way. Yes, they should be used, but if what you are writing about is not relevant to your niche market or I should say some markets do not get that much traffic from articles as others, you should use then, but analyze if article marketing should be your main source of traffic. Another thought comes to mind is, a high competition level, is there allot of competition in your niche for your market. Just some school for thought.
