1.3 Million Email Addresses - Targeted - Need Advice

To cut a long story short a pal of mine sold a website, but did not include the subscriber list (it was part of the deal). So I paid $400 for them. They are double opt in, never been mailed.

The question is, can I mail these? Or do I need to set up a site and get them to subscribe to a list I own?

Totally confused.

Mailing is not the issue. I can mail 20k a day without issue, and inbox. I don't know the laws or stuff on how I can mail these.

If you bought the site then the subscriber list is yours. If you only bought the list then you need to get them to optin to your own list.

    Hope this helps

No I don't have the site, I just purchased the list.

So I won't get into any trouble for emailing them asking them to subscribe to my site?

If they didn't specifically opt in to one of your offers in the
first place they are not an opt in list for you.

You can email them if you like but out of 1.3 million
you're sure to get several spam complaints that could
result in loss of your email or ISP accounts.

Personally, I would consider the list useless... you, however,
can do as you choose as long as you're willing to suffer the
        potential consequences.

So why do companies sell double opt in lists?

Yes I agree with Terry there is no need for you to risk I am always amazed why people buy these lists when in actual fact they are nothing but traps. you would be spamming every single one of those people they have no knowledge of you nor have they given permission for you to email them they may have opted in with a company but that is not you. chalk it up to a learning lesson or...take your own risk

Arrgh! Why do I put myself into these messes every time. I started building up cash, started to invest and made the wrong move. I'd at least try and make back what I paid for them. But I know that's no discussion for this board. Lesson learned I think.

You better had asked here before... Try a refund.

        Cheers,

        Don't beat yourself up...

Show of hands of how many people have "wasted" money on things they didn't need/didn't use/mistakes made, etc. Everyone here would have their hands raised, both of them probably, waving high in the air.

Thing is, you really didn't "waste" $400. Sure, it's gone. But, you learned a lesson you couldn't be taught in a classroom or on the warrior forum. You'll never make that $400 "mistake" again, right?

Consider it a gain. Look at how much money you saved in the long run

        Warmly,

You can try and get your money back from the company don't feel bad man lots and lots of people make this mistake just recently a different person posted the same thing it is just not worth the risk live and learn but approach the company and say by law your not even allowed to contact these people so you would like to either have them mail out to the list it is being sold and a new opt in will be required or give you your money back

Nobody in their right mind would sell a legitimate double opt-in list of 1.3 million subscribers for $400. Sorry, but that's laughable. You got scammed. You'd be a multi-millionaire easily with a true list of double opt-ins of anything close to that size. You might find some Russians to mail it for you and take the heat from the many spam complaints, but expect to pony up big bucks.

    James...

    Here's a possible solution.

Set up some kind of free offer page for a report
on something relevant to the list and have the guy
you bought it from do a mailing touting your report
with a link to YOUR opt in page.

You can probably salvage some % of the list
with opt ins of your own.
