I have heard about linkbait but never tried to go that route in terms of gaining backlinks. Is linkbait essentially using controversial articles, etc.. in order to draw curious viewers to your site? If so, how well has this worked for you?

    Linkbait = viral content.

    That is pretty much what it is.

    The best possible linkbait you can find is online competitions.
    Start a competition and get bloggers involved. You'll flood your site with backlinks.

      Varyingly - from just "pretty good" to "absolutely brilliant". Controversy and entertainment value are the two greatly under-appreciated beneficial features of article marketing, for some. A number of "sources" seem to frown on both: on controversy because it's said to attract readers rather than buyers, and on entertainment value for some other reason I've never quite understood. But I find both invaluable, myself, and they certainly help to get your work widely re-published, with others effectively doing some of your off-page SEO for you. Recommended.

      Sweet. I have always tried to stay away from controversy for controversy sake. I can see how this can be used in other ways as well. Thanks.
