Does anyone ever actually read the direct messages they receive when you follow someone

I've just deleted a load from a twitter account I have, and didn't look at one. I just wondered if they served any purpose.

And why oh why didn't twitter add a mass delete for that section (sigh)

Kim, I usually make a few hundred to a few thousand per month DIRECTLY from the DM's...it depends on what and how YOU are tweeting as to the value and effectiveness of the DM's...personally, ready EVERY one...they are often the nuggets that start the conversations that lead to money.

The only ones I pay attention to are the ones with my name in them, otherwise it's deleted. A mass delete tool would certainly be very welcome.

    Kim,

I wrote a negative review to my list about that tool. I thought I was the only person who hated it.

Catch me on skype and I'll tell you about it.

  • I read them all. There could be someone in there asking you an important questions about your business. If you delete them all, you could be losing sales!

There are a few tools that certainly cause a lot of issues and a flood more spam accounts to follow you. Hopefully Twitter will take a lesson from Google in terms of filtering out the junk and background noise that wastes everyones time.

I currently have 40k followers on Twitter and it is infuriating to try and filter out the junk to the point I just give up.

Though the "TrueTwit" validation service certainly does have potential to weed out genuine followers from "FollowBots".

The DM function is very useful but due to the fact many people following 1000s of people to get 1000s of followers the DM function for them is utterly useless. But I find it extremely useful as I only follow 70 people? And its great to exchange confidential stuff such as Emails, Phone Numbers, etc.

I never read the DMs, and I'm guessing the conversion rate for them is about the same as it is for spamming email (1% or so). So I'm not sure if it's worth it for most people to even try it.

Yea or sure.. the advantage with twitter is direct cell phone inegration. And people generally tend to read messages they receive on their phone..
