I'm surprised there aren't more threads about this (other than the privacy one). My questions:

Are you using Google buzz?
Are you planning on promoting anything with it?

I'll be the first to admit that at first I didn't see a way to market products with Twitter. Later I found out how of course and right now I'm still trying to see how that could work with Buzz. Could you really promote with it? Would you want to?

The autofollow feature helps would-be spammers for sure. You're following anyone you've ever emailed as soon as they sign up for buzz. And I could see people using it for spam, but how about legitimate marketing?

My feeling is, this is obviously a twitter killer that probably came along a little too late. It is super convenient as I feel like I've joined a social network where most of my friends are already signed up. It's somewhat like a web forum that's a click away from my email. That's why I use it.

But as a marketer I don't see myself using it much for promotion. It's just way too close to email, and looks too much like spam. I've already unfollowed quite a few people for doing it.

So my question is, are my fellow warriors coming up with plans to promote it?

I really don't know yet...I've played around with it bit...On the SEO side:

your links are instantly indexed by Google's real-time search...so that's a plus...the whole thing still seems to have a bit of a spammy feel to me still...

but gmail is extremely popular so of course everyone will pretty much end up following everyone

Doesn't seem like they put any thought into privacy

As far as the social aspect it seem like just another thing to check...

I'm loving it. It's WAY Better than Twitter. YOu can easily follow the conversations you want to follow. I think there's room to make it better as well. I liked Google Wave, but there were too few people I know who have it.

Guess it all depends on how things work out.

Buzz is only there because Twitter won't sell off to Google. They have made offers and Twitter won't budge.

**My Opinion** Buzz will be a flop...

Micro-blogging like Twitter and so many others is a competition to google due to the value of "real time" searching.

Buzz is only trying to break into that Micro-blogging for that single reason...

I like it too, from a user point of view. I think google wave is really cool, but I don't think it's going to catch on with the public. The learning curve is just way too hard for the average person. I know that sounds cynical but nearly everyone I've sent invites to got completely confused by it and stopped using it. It's awesome if you're a geek.

Google Buzz seems a lot easier to use, so this might catch on and maybe they'll add in some wave stuff to it.

I think buzz is pretty convenient also though, attached to my gmail. It's pretty quick to hop over but i already find myself not doing that because I'm not too terribly interested in it yet. Interesting to see where it goes.

This is part of the privacy concerns people have. Most of us assume everything we type is public, but I have a feeling many people are unaware of that with Buzz.

I haven't looked into it yet but am planning to. I am going to study it for awhile to see what kind of possibilities exist within it.

On the other hand, it's owned by google so there might be some pretty strict rules in regards to promoting with it.

Come on .... I mean really. Legitimate marketing? Who wants a bunch of people autofollowing us just because they are contacts and then sending offers we didn't opt in for? I don't and I deleted my Google profile and all my contacts just to get rid of Buzz and keep my email, just plain old email.

It may ... I don't know. Once I deleted the contacts that were there, I deleted my Google profile. Without that, Buzz won't work. Then I scrolled down to bottom of Gmail screen and clicked on turn Buzz off ... in other words, Buzz Off Google Buzz.

Spammers of course will think this is yet another wonderful gateway that Google has provided them to spam the crap out of people, with Sidewiki being the last one. A privacy organization has already filed a suit with the FTC about Buzz.

People do not want more spam in their email ... they want less spam in their email. What part of that do spammers and Google not GET?

I like buz as it is more like a chat and I can do this with many of the greats already on it.

Also unlike twitter I can add promotions, giveaways and my videos all inside gmail.

Check out my buzz and you will see it is alot more powerful than twitter. It is sort of halfway between twitter and facebook.

Excellent approach to monetising this medium...it all depends to what extent it catches on with the public... does it become trendy and what sort of traffic it gets

One of the things to do if you don't want to show your contacts:

Go to your profile (click here)

and uncheck "display the list of people I'm following and following me".

I know I wasn't too comfortable showing my contacts like that without their permission.

I'm actually enjoying it, thus far ... I can check my mail, and with one click see if there's a thread of interest to pop in and out of. I'm using a Twitter and FB app that allows me to switch in between the 3 of them and GMail in the same interface. Not necessarily just a time suck ... helps me stay on top of things with little effort. Too soon to see if it will become dominant ... or fizzle out. For me ... so far, so good ... with few complaints.

          Cheers,

as a user I'm enjoying it, but already somewhat bored with it. As a marketer, I don't see myself doing anything with it, mostly because it's so close to your mailbox and it appears spammy. This is one social media tool I'll avoid for marketing purposes.

I'm not a big of of Google Buzz. Maybe once they experiment and weed some of the issues out and improve on the strong points I'll start using it. For now other things like Twitter are good for me.

Google Buzz has it's positives and negatives... I like that you can actually talk to people you know (some of them) and that you can get to know other marketers...
I also like the youtube feature

other than that... I don't like the fact that anyone can automatically follow me as long as I've sent an email to them.

Well, you do have to click "ok" for them to follow you, but I don't know if that's a recent development or not. There have been changes due to privacy concerns.

It seems like after almost a year, Buzz has all but died except for a few select people using it. Most people are still unaware it exists.

I'm wondering if it's because of poor marketing on Google's part, or the fact that it really offered nothing new over other social media programs.

Like Twitter, it can be used as a marketing tool, but most people use it incorrectly. If you spam links on Buzz you'll get ignored just as quickly as if you were spamming on any other medium. I have heard from some people having some success with Buzz (about 6 months ago) but not sure if it's still working for them now.
