So, I'm a newb to the "marketing" game, and quite frankly Im unsure if this is even the right forum to ask this question. My problem doesn't really involve making money, but it's certainly marketing related.

Anyways, I've been submitting to a few social bookmarks like digg, google bookmark, and reddit for at least a couple weeks now. Unfortunately, it hasn't paid off at all. When I look down the list of one of these sites it says that every bookmark has received no hits.

I'm guessing the problem is I don't know what to do once I bookmark it. It's not a big time investment so it's tough to say it's a waste of time. But the bigger issue is that I know I'm missing something.

If you could please help me figure out what to do after/before you submit a bookmark I would be very grateful! Thanks for your time.

If you're just submitting your article to social bookmarking sites, then you are just utilizing the backlinks and the quicker indexing of your article/site. To get traffic in social bookmarking, you need a following. You have to build a community just like you would on Twitter or Facebook. It's just a little different interacting. Find people interested in what you're doing and send them content related to it that you've created and what some others you like have done.

"Social" is in the title of these services for a reason.

Adding to what petelta said you should also bookmark your Digg and other couple of bookmarks (Propeller is another). Often it is seen that a Digg entry ranking good on Google for a particular keyword. Also make your title attention grabbing and get some votes and comments from friends on Digg, Propeller etc.

Im not really sure what you're saying... it sounds like you're saying submit your Digg link to Digg (or other site)?

Sorry, I should have mentioned. Skip the same bookmarking site. Other sites are okay . . . you got it right bookmark your bookmarks. Or in other words promote the promoters.

Agree, it's hard to get traffic from social bookmarking sites, but still a lot of newbie marketing guides keep mentioning it's a great way to get traffic. I used to believe that, until I've tried it and I was so dissapointed.

It's great for backlinking, but overdoing it has it's cons too! You can get easily banned and still no newbie guide ever mentions this.

I've been wondering if social bookmarking another social bookmark does any good with pagerank or is it only for the traffic?
