What/ From Who would you consider a "Good" Testimonial?

Let's face it....it's hard to deny that the success of a product can be directly attributable to the "name" of those who support it/endorse it/ and give testimonials about it...

...with that said, from who would you consider a "Good" testimonial? A prominent blogger? A warrior forum member of high status/post count?

...and, are there any particular testimonials, on YOUR products, that YOU are particularly proud of or fond of....and, that, you believe, have led to increased sales of your product?

Also, do you believe your product might not have sold (as much) had it not been for those testimonials?

    A good testimonial comes from someone who has used the product regardless of who they are.

    Finding someone in the same niche is always a bonus, but those who give testimonials without being asked are the best.

    We had someone who wanted to know more about us and our company. We had some testimonials on the website, but the person didn't know any of the names so it meant nothing to them.

    We contacted a few clients and all gave their telephone/skype name to give to the person so they could talk to them and answer their questions. This in my opinion is a far better way to do it.

    Testimonials are only a part of the sales process. Sure they will help someone to make up their mind but aren't 100% essential if you have a good offer and a targeted visitor.

    But to answer your main question, the best testimonial would be from someone who is a respected authority in your own niche.

    Someone in the same demographic as your potential buyers. Bloggers (get some prominent blogger), Stay at home moms (your mom), seniors (old people). Come on now... not too hard to figure this one out.

    A testimonial can make or break your product. 'Nuff said.

      The above makes for a testimonial that has the power to influence me. People so happy with a product/service that they will give up both time and access to total strangers to convey their feeling about the product service.

      Anonymous testimonials I regard as exercises in creative writing, and assign them no credibility.

      Same with testimonials by affiliates.

      I give very little weight to testimonials from "big names" when those names seem to endorse every product that comes out in exchange for a link or a plug. Joe Vitale used to be one of the superstars of this testimonial genre. While I talked to Joe on the phone in the past, as well as traded emails, and I respect his talent and accomplishments, his testimonials for IM products didn't carry much weight with me because for awhile he did so very many of them...

    The only testimonial I consider a good testimonial is when someone I trust tells me they bought it and it's good. I don't even read the testimonials attached to a sales page. They are irrelevant.

    I tend to like to see names that I recognize like Glen Watkins, Tellman Knudson, and people like that. In addition if I don't see name recognition then I like to see websites and email addresses listed at the end of the testimonial. Or even phone numbers. I like to see things like this because now days people have testimonials all over the site and the whole program turns out to be a scam despite all the testimonials. If it's got testimonials I like name recognition or the ability to be able to contact someone so that I can verify the credibility of the particular program that the person is endorsing

    As John mentioned, it's awesome when someone loves your product so much that they take the time out of their day to offer an unsolicited testimonial (and they happily agree to you putting it on your website).

    But what I like even better are those times when satisfied customers offer unsolicited testimonials to OTHER people.

    For example, someone here on the forum asks about a product or service. A few well-known folks (not anonymous members) pop into the thread and offer a testimonial.

    In other words...

    A testimonial on your sales letter is great. But what's even better is a "live" testimonial in the form of buzz/word-of-mouth marketing. Get your product in front of "sneezers" and other vocal folks, and that's a lot more likely to happen.
