Why would you click through to order form and not order?

Hi,

I was just wondering, and I'm not complaining, but a couple of days ago I wrote 2 articles and submitted them to EzineArticles. They're both live now. So far my stats are, 150 views, 32 URL clicks, 21% clickthru.

At Clickbank my stats are: hop count 23, hops per order form impression 6 and order form impression is 4.

This is not my own product I'm promoting, but an affiliate product, and my articles lead to a blogger blog.

But can someone please share with me if this is normal, to have 4 order form impressions and no sales? Why do people click all the way through and go no further?

Before I submitted my articles, I double checked my links to make sure they are working properly. They look like they are. My ID is showing on the order form. So should I be concerned at this point or not? I know it may be a little too early to tell, but it sure would be nice to see a sale come through.

Well, I'm off to write more articles. Hopefully, things will begin to pick up soon.

    Is the price listed on the sales page? That is usually the only time I would click through to order without actually ordering. I might think "hmmm I might get this depending on tgh price..." then click through to find that the price is too high. I don't know why people don't display their price on the sales page though. It is quite annoying.

    I'm sure there are other reasens, but that is the first one that comes to mind.

      Thanks. That's a good point. And yes, the price is stated on the sales page. That's one reason why I don't get why they would go so far as to click all the way through.

    Yeah, price is a big one.

    Also sometimes, I just want to see how I'm treated when I try to back out. Sometimes, I'm offered a freebie or a discount, and other times there are some nasty popups which crash my computer - and then I know I'm glad I didn't buy.

    OK - I don't really do this, but who knows why people do what they do?

    Just keep promoting and don't get caught up in the numbers quite yet.

    My first thought was the same as Melanie's; People clicking through to find out the price.

    It could also be people who lost their connection before they could place the order, it's happened to me before now.

      If the price is in US$ and you are not from the US, then the order page also will tell you the price in your local currency, which is quite useful. Then based on that you can make a decision whether to buy.

      I wouldn't worry too much about it at this stage.It's probably just people's natural curiosity that takes them all the way through.
      If you had 400 impressions and no sales then that would be the time to worry.
      You're moving in the right direction,keep taking the right action and the sales shouldn't be too far behind.

    It has to be the finding out the price thing. Failing that I've clicked through a few times to see the aff id amongst other things. Maybe you're targeting the wrong clients.

    Not having the price on the sales page is the first thing that came to my mind too. Or maybe it's not listed next to the order button. So people click through to find out the price.

    Other possibilities...

    *Curiosity. Other marketers will click just to see any additional upsells or calls to action.


    *Not yet decided. I've clicked on an order form before and not ordered, simply because I was still deciding. I've even started to fill it out before ditching the process. Generally, that's for items that are $100 or more -- and for items I don't really need -- but I'd expect some people would do the same thing no matter what the price point.


    *Changed their mind. The prospect had already made the buying decision -- and then suddenly they changed their mind. Maybe they remembered the furnace just blew up, so money is a little tighter this month.


    * Order form was weird. Maybe they didn't like something on the order form (e.g., people are always looking for reasons to not buy -- maybe something on the order form tripped that trigger). Maybe the got the feeling the order form wasn't secure. Or maybe it just seemed like too much of a hassle (meaning they weren't all that fired up anyway).


    *Order form croaked. Maybe the server went down, the person's connection dropped, etc. Something kept the person from completing the order.


    *Prospect interrupted. Prospect was just about to fill in the order form, when his child tells him kitty is stuck up in the tree again. Prospect abandons order and saves kitty instead. Prospect may or may not remember to return to order (he may even decide to not buy during this cooling off period).


    ... and so on.

    If I'm understanding you correctly, I haven't clicked through my own links, not since I posted the articles. I checked them before I submitted them. So that's not the issue. And I do believe I'm targeting the write audience. I've done all my research beforehand, thanks to many helpful Warriors here, including keywords, etc. And my keywords are very targeted. SEO both articles and post on my blog done too. So I don't think that's the problem either.

    The most annoying thing for me, is when marketers hide the price (or make it very hard to find) just to get you to read the sales page all the way.

    Sometimes, I just don't feel like pouring through a ridiculously long sales page just to see if you have the pricing somewhere in small font.

    Anyway, that basically comes back to people wanting to see the price right away.

    And then they may come back and read the sales page if the price is right (for them, at the time).

    So publish the price next to your button, and you will have less folks going to the order form just to see the price. Just one less variable to think about.

      I agree with you Ravi - when I am looking at a sales page - I do want to have a clear idea of how much I will have to pay to be part of it

    There debating on ordering the product you've been there im sure should I get it, maybe its too much etc... Yeah I agree it is extremely annoying but its the price you pay for doing business online. Take the good with the bad!

    Perhaps they want to see if it is a CB product and once they see that it is they back out and use their own Affiliate ID to purchase it? I have done that before on numerous occasions. Sorry to those that this offends.
