  I started with Ezine and that worked great. Now I've learned how to get many page 1 Google rankings and some keywords at #1 and am loving the free traffic that I get everyday.

I have a small site that is relatively new, but advertising on twitter is getting me a decent amount of visits so I'm happy with that.

I used to love the article traffic, but lately I have built been doing well with Twitter. I started testing some things because I planned on doing a product on Twitter marketing. It really helped me build a nice following. I get several hundred viewers from Twitter right now. They are all nicely targeted too.

It's been really fun making this Twitter product because there are lots of small tweaks you can do to help your traffic flow.

I would always prefer search engine traffic though lol.

I think everyones basic first step should be EzineArticles - it simply delivers 3x + the amount of traffic of posting on another article site (usually), but over time, with enough backlinking and SEO you will get more traffic from natural google searches than anywhere else.... hopefully

Article marketing is very useful for a start, especially for people just starting out in IM as its FREE.. imagine just writing 5 articles a day, at the end of 2 weeks, you would have 70 articles linking back to your site.. that's alot of exposure and massive traffic coming to your site!

However, as you begin to make money, you should invest in an autoresponder ie. aweber and start building your list. its only $19 a month.. and after you have quite a substantial list size of around 500, you can do adswaps with other list owners in the same niche! adswaps are FREE too and a great way to get FREE traffic to your website/ squeeze page => build your list faster and have more people to promote to => make more moolah!

SEO. Many of the things discussed in this thread such as Articles are related to this and valuable in themselves, but free traffic from Google search results is the holy grail.

I'm no Twitter expert as it brings me little traffic - I guess I do not put in the effort that others do. I get traffic from it, just nothing to write home about. Guess I should try harder.

  I don't really have a Twitter strategy yet as I only started using it a few days ago.
  
  For now, I'm trying to post informative, helpful, interesting or funny tweets, relevant to my niche. I'm also following people by finding people who are following others relevant to my niche, but who are only following a small amount of people.
  
  Not sure what to do next but the beauty of such things is that you can come back to them later. Getting the Twitter account up and running ASAP was the most important step to start off.

My favorite: Twitter. Seems silly to some but it's so easy to instantly send free traffic to your site. If you build a quality following, you can send traffic to your site(s) whenever you want. I have 14,000 followers on Twitter and each Tweet gets me anywhere from 10-30 visits within 5 minutes.

I'm currently working on the Twitter method. It doesn't get me any visits really. Usually about 5-10 only per tweet, which isnt even worth mentioning.

I only have about 150 followers so if I get to the 10K point that number should have increased.

In a sense it is not free b/c it requires time (unless you outsource) but I would go with article marketing.

  Don't just limit yourself to putting your articles on ezinearticles (this is to everyone not directed at you personally), there are loads of other high traffic directory's and some have better traffic than ezinearticles in certain niches too.
