so....I just snagged up - TigerWoodsApologyVideo.com- Was # 1...what to d0..lol

What are your thoughts on this?

# 1 Google trend (as of at least a few hours ago)...did a quick domain search and it was available.

So one of those impulse moves kicked in and I bought it. Not really sure it can be monetized...or how long of a trend it will be...it will more than likely fizzle and I'm out $10 and about 20 minutes. But.....

So.....any input? Right now I just threw up the video...would love to spark comments...trying to figure a way to monetize ....if can even be monetized.

Gotta love these things that come out of no where....seize the moment....lol.... at least convince Yourself it's a good idea....

I don't know if it can be called a lasting trend, worthy of a whole domain. By tomorrow everyone will have seen it 100 times on the news and be sick of it.

I think its completely sick that people feel the need to make Tiger apologize for something that is quite frankly none of our business.

People like to see successful people brought down. It's a sad world we live in.

With that out of the way, magazine subscriptions could work for website.

I would say a golf oriented product my do well, but something tells me that the people looking for that stuff aren't really into golf, but more of want to join in on the Tiger spectacle.

On contrary, I think it is many people's business. Tiger is just not making Money from Tournament Winnngs , but he is making money from Fans (many of them little kids) who buy his Merchandise like shirts, posters, hats etc..etc..

Many of these Fans have been completely let down by Tiger who in the past on several occassions has verbally and openly commented on the importance of being a good Role Model for the younger generation.

So I beg to differ with your assertions !!

He has let down MANY, MANY people who without them Tiger would not be as Successful as he has been.

Oh BS. Tiger is a human being just like you and me and makes mistakes and is not perfect. I am not saying what he did was right. What I am saying is this is no different than any other husband cheating or even when Bill Clinton our President in the US got caught with Monica. He shouldn't have to apologize to anyone but his wife and family.

I checked out the site. I see you have some sort of cpa ad on their. Now sell it on flippa with a one day auction(1-3 days depending on how hot trend is) which will cost you another $19. Start it at maybe $97 with no buy it now unless you want to use it.

I think it can still be found on flippa in the just sold section if you dig that someone sold a domain that was something like:
            sarahpalinforsecondterm[dot]com
            or
            sarahplainforpresident[dot]com

It was something like that and it was just a domain with no website and it sold for $20,000.

Since when has it been normal for people like you and me to cheat with 14 other women while we are Married ?? Iam sorry but to me that is NOT being a human being. That is being an animal.

Yes of course we all make mistakes in Life. But there is certain degrees of it and there is certain boundaries that most of us dont dare go.

Well, Tiger went way past those boundaries !!

And the fact of the matter is Tiger has capitalized off a squeaky clean image and has made Millions doing this.

Thats fine if you want to be a renegade like John Daly or Charles Barkley then you should have been upfront about it since the beginning of your Celebrity status.
Not make hundreds of millions of dollars betraying an upstanding person and then turn and act like a douche.

Actually tiger made his millions from the fact that he can play golf,if he did not have a clean image from the start he would still have companies endorsing him.

It's nobodys business but his and his family's! I never said it was normal! What is normal anyway? Are you normal? Am I? Your view of normal could be completely different than mine. The bottom line is that the media is having a hayday with this and it isn't right. Tiger doesn't need to apologize to the public. IT'S NOT OUR BUSINESS.

On the same token, we all have our issues no matter how mild or terrible they are. You shouldn't judge him if you have ever made any mistakes yourself in life. Are you "squeaky clean?" Have you ever screwed up royal? That attitude is what causes hate and anger. I wouldn't be so judgemental if I were you.

I totally agree with you. What Tiger did is between him and his wife and no one else. Do any of your clients or customers ask about your personal life? I understand that he is in the professional spotlight but it still doesn't make it right for everyone to know his personal business. He's a great golf player... he does his job so I don't think he will be hurt in the long term by especially since I heard that Elin is taking him back anyways.

That being said, I'm not sure there is a way to really monetize the site as I think most people who will visit will not care about gold but will want to know about celebrity gossip. Maybe see if you can go that way or just add some Adsense on the site and see what kind of ads and clicks you get.

ETA- I do think that Tiger is a total piece of **** for what he did to his wife and family though.

        I agree with you 100%

In the US, how many people cheat on their wives everyday?

And we make a big deal out of tiger woods. I think that the only person he needs to apologize to is his wife (or kids even) and that's it. He was famous for golf and that's what should matter. If he was a church's priest or someone of that category then it made sense if people wanted an apology but this is just ridiculous. And yes I agree 100% that people like the fall of the greater and successful.

OK, now back to the point. The tiger woods apology is no longer a hot trend so I think that you just wasted your money.

I heard something funny on the radio.

You can use it for your new domain and KILL in affiliate marketing, if you can get a Tiger impersonator or cgi animation.

          Tiger Woods talking:

"Hi, you do not want just ANY wood, you want TIGER wood, buy Viagra and be a TIGER!!"

Celebrity voice impersonated, does not condone or endorse the nature of this product or advertisement.

Well you brought it so get to work:

    1) Naturally the Tiger Woods apology will have to be linked on the main page (or imbedded)

    2) Analyse what type of people would most likely search that domain (gossip mongers? Golfers? etc) - check youtube etc, to see what type of comments this video is getting for some ideas.

    3) once narrowed down, you can think of other items these people are likely to be interested in to (golf products maybe, gossip related products etc)

That is where I would start. Doing nothing will bring nothing... period.

this subject has nothing to do with golfers. I would try get your ex back/magic of making up stuff. Also, celebrity CPA submits will hit the spot with the type of people hitting your page.

You're going for housewives, bored middle aged men, people in relationship turmoil and general celebrity vulchers...and a small fraction of golfers (possibly).

There's your demographic, now work outwards!

Be quick tho - this will be buried within a few days.

No, what's sad is that the media treats his "apology" like it is equal with things that are truly important.

It was the most scripted piece of garbage I've ever seen (at least the parts I did see). It sounded more like a high school graduation speech (no offense to high schoolers) than anything else.

He's a public figure. He got caught doing something. BUT, why did he have to apologize the way he did?

    Easy.

Because he went into hiding as soon as the story broke. He actually made it much worse. What he should have done right then and there is tell the media it's none of their business and move on. He handled it in about the worst way possible.

I also thought it was funny when he said he brought all of these problems on himself, then yelled at the media for going after his family. They woudn't have gone after his family if Tiger would have been talking to them. So, he's the one that brought THAT on his family.

I didn't think he was all that sincere. There were several other statements that were laughable. Things like, "I know what I did was wrong". Really? Seriously? And that didn't dawn on you after the first two dozen times you were cheating on your WIFE.

You obviously didn't feel it was wrong when you were doing it. What changed? Getting caught.

Anyway, because his apology was so scripted, I see know reason why they had to pre-empt regular programming with the full speech. IF there had been a press conference, then maybe. And that's a weak maybe.

Bottom line. He should have kept it in his pants and honored his marriage vows.

    OKAY...

As to what to do with the domain.

You could auction it off. My guess is you would get the highest price within the next few days.

Other than that, perhaps a site with other Tiger Woods videos from YouTube, monetized with Amazon or AdSense may bring in some income.

Couldn't have said it better, so I quoted it LOL

As to the OP, you should stick a WP blog in there quickly.

Time is not your friend here I am afraid.

      1. Get a WP blog up, then find every story about it and posts them all on your blog with links back to source.

      2. Mix in every youtube video you can find on the subject, and lots of pictures.

      3. Add Adsense to the blog.

      4. Go to Blog and Ping Tool - Use Pingler.com to Drive Traffic your Blogs and Websites and ping it.

      5. Digg it, Delicious it, Yahoo Buzz it and anything else you can think of.

Then optimize every part of your website for the new information.

Make quick money, then in two weeks flip it if you can.

      Cheers,

Nice grab on the domain name. This is certainly not going to be a long term
money earner, but I can see you pulling down 5 figures in the short term.
Since all you are going to be getting is untargeted traffic, you can't sell
them anything and it is unlikely that any adsense ads that appear are
going to attract many clicks. What you need to do is put up a poll.
People love to voice their opinions on this type of stuff. Then after
they submit their vote make them fill out a CPA offer to view the
results. Thier curiosity will get the better of them.
You need a nice generic CPA offer that appeals to a wide audience
and you will make a ton of cash.

That seems pretty brilliant, even if I don't know anything about CPA. Besides the poll - what else would you have on the site? And what type of CPA offer would likely work with the type of traffic coming in, and what type of $$ is there to be made on each completed CPA?

Maybe - I'll have to look into this CPA thing....

I suggest the same thing but put up two buttons...a yes and a no button.

Ask people to vote, "Should Tiger be forgiven" Vote yes or no for a chance to win ( put your cpa offer here, $500 Walmart Gift card...etc. )...one field submits will work best.

You could auction it off. My guess is you would get the highest price within the next few days.

Other than that, perhaps a site with other Tiger Woods videos from YouTube, monetized with Amazon or AdSense may bring in some income.

      All the best,
      Michael
Michael the bottom line is that it shouldn't matter what his personal life is in light of his golf life. What happened is nobody's business and who cares anyway?

Tiger is a human being and this stuff happens all the time with people not in the lime light. What makes him so different that he has to apologize to the general public?

Go and stick a twitter script on it or a send to a freind script which they have to complete!

Then also add adsense or adbrite to earn some small cash! You could go and signup to cpalead.com and add a cpa lead gateway to it so they have to complete an offer to get it! or to see the second part (if you just split it)!

    Good luck

You should consider it a ten dollar learning experience in why to define a market FIRST and then build around that market's needs rather then the other way around.

Sorry for the honestly, but IMO the sooner you ditch a bum idea the better you'll be onto something that CAN make you more than a couple dollars for a couple days.

Gotta love people who want to
    exploit the problems of others.

    But wait.

    There's a real need for this -

You can teach athletes how to
    make an authentic apology without
sounding like their PR dude just
handed them a stack of 3x5 cards
    they'd never seen before stepping
    in front of the camera.

Every week now there's a high
    visibility athlete doing one of
    these apologies and I wonder
what kind of a fool believes a word
    they say.

We just got past Gilbert Arenas
waving his pistola around in the
    locker room.

    Long live the Washington Bullets!

Here's what I would have said,
    no cue cards needed -

"I screwed up. My behavior is
out of control. I'm no different
    than millions of other American's
who ruin their lives and health
    with addictions to drugs, food,
    alcohol and countless other
    escapes.

Most never have to accept any
responsibility for it, but if I ever
want a sponsor to cut me another
    check then I do.

And since Elin is about to walk away
with nine-figures of my cash I need
to get some of those sponsors back.

Right now, I've ruined my life as
I know it. And I know people love
    it when that happens.

It just so happens I'm a rich, handsome
    famous guy who has beautiful
women lining up to sleep with me -
    if that's the life I wanted I shouldn't
have involved my wife or kids. I never
should have gotten married, then you'd
celebrate my libido and I'd be doing
    Enzyte commercials in 20 years.

Right now, you can't trust me. My
    wife can't trust. I need help. I'm
    getting help. I'm determined not
to allow this to happen again, but
I'm an addict. No guarantees. You
    don't leave a drunk alone with a
beer, and you don't leave the fat
    guy alone with a cheeseburger.

If you want to slam me, make jokes
about me, remove me from the
pedestal you placed me on I'm cool
with that. I'm human. That goes
along with my position in life.

I may golf again. I may not. I love
the game and I hope I have a chance
to play again. If you choose to root
for me, great. If not, that's your
    choice.

I had it good, I blew it. But hey,
OJ got away with murder. Kobe got
away with rape and I'm not even
in court for this one so you know I'll
    be back.

Which is why reading my canned
statement from 3x5 cards is merely
a formality to move you along to
the next piece of Enquirer trash
you're going to spend your "hard
    earned" money on.

    Later - Tiger

See, if a guy builds his endorsement portfolio on a squeaky clean image, then you're gosh darn right it IS everybody'd business.

    That's the difference.

Tiger did everything he could to cultivate a good guy image. The only thing that compares to a "rags to riches" story is a "fall from grace" story - with Tiger, I think we had the former and now we have the latter.

Regardless of what anybody thinks it IS in the public eye. That's what we call "reality". You can say it should be between Tiger and his wife, and maybe it should be...but it isn't.

When a man becomes famous for golfing, that is the only time I want to see him mentioned.

If a man gets millions of dollars through advertising thrown at him, he should have to answer to those respective companies.

And my child should be looking at real life people as role models. The fireman who lives across the street, the pastor of the church they have been going to their entire life, etc. People who actually make a difference in their day to day life.

That's all I have to say about that.

Post the video on your site, make it look professional, and try to get rid of it as soon as possible. This is really a flavor of the minute type topic, and there is some other celebrity who is just months away from having their life crumble as well.

This is certainly an interesting thread.

When I see people starving, homeless, ill and in other situations that make my heart hurt, the thing that always gets to me the most is when I see someone who just doesn't have hope that their future could ever be anything but bad.

It's my opinion that Tiger has probably given that spark of hope to more people than most of us will ever be able to - and whatever his problems I just can't bring myself to turn on the guy just because the media are trying to crush him.

So - however argumentative, disagreeable, controversial, inhuman that makes me - I still hope he gets his relationship on track and gets back to being the inspirational guy that he can be.

Sorry for those who aren't able to see past the media and feel the need to be negative towards him.

    Taking this down another route...

It is usually the expectations of family, our culture and society which lead us to monogamous relationships. Quite simply, "marriage" is a human construct brought about when there was a change in our society and culture - that does not, and cannot change our nature:

WikiAnswers - When was institution of marriage invented

It can, of course change our habits, but, like Jeff Goldblum says "nature finds a way"

We are, by nature - genetically preprogrammed to expand our lineage (and add our genes to the gene pool).

Here's an interesting read: Those Cheating Testicles, or Who's Your Baby? : The Primate Diaries

I like to play devil's advocate - but, it's something Andy said that prompted this response:

Well, excuse me, but those 'boundaries' are imaginary.
All your morals, beliefs etc. are in your OWN head - you choose to have them. And judging people by your own standards and expecting them to be the person you want them to be is frankly pointless.

I'm not on any side of the fence - I'm looking at the fence from the outside of the garden but, on an evolutionary basis... good luck trying to change human NATURE.

That goes for woman and men too.

It is possible that one day, society will change and that monogamous relationships will no longer be accepted when we realise that there is "another way".

All I suggest is that if you're going to do the "poly" thing - that you're up-front about it, as that's the "nice thing" to do.

BTW, I say this as a man who is in a happy relationship - one that I choose to stay in, not because it is expected of me, but because I enjoy it.

    Enjoy the alternative viewpoint

Looking at page 1 of Google for the search term, here's what I'm seeing.

News at the top, with YouTube videos directly below.

    1. A New York Fox TV station

    2. ESPN

    3. Huffington Post (with multiple results)

    4. Tiger Woods' official site

    5. PR3 celebrity gossip blog

    6. ABC News

    7. VodPod video sharing site

    8. GlobalGrind

And beneath that, selected blog results.

Based on result #5, I think it's well within the realm of possiblity that many people here are capable of producing sites that see good rankings for these flash in the pan opportunities, but probably not by buying a domain name based on a search that appears briefly in Google Trends and putting up a new site.

It's also conceivable that a parody video or mashup titled Tiger Woods Apology Video could have appeared in the YouTube results at the top of page 1.

As far as monetizing the domain goes, I think the best bet is flipping it as Mike suggested.

I like the ideas suggested here. I agree with the person who said to flip it on Flippa. That would be my suggestion as well. Especially if you get a few sales form the site before you flip it.

This is definitely not necessarily true. If a Court of Law can prove intent on your part in capitalizing off a name that is directly correlated to another individual then you could be liable. Especially, when other terms are used in the Domain that overtly relate to the famous person (example would be ApologyVideo)

Hey, Sean, I took a quick look at your site. I see you have a Work-At-Home type offer up. Anything is better than nothing, of course, but the sad truth is your traffic is probably gonna be mostly from the Gossip Monger and/or Schadenfreude crowd. In the immediate short-term, I would lean towards Celebrity CPAs, polls (already mentioned), and "relationship hell" CB products. Gross, I know... but you asked for it :p

I'm not sure sure a domain name like that has any legs... if you DO flip it, tell us how you make out, ok?

Here's a thought: perhaps after the trending traffic dries up, could you turn it into a Self-Help site... you know, a New-Agey "Don't Let This Happen To You" type thing?

Maybe optimize some content around Therapy niche keywords? "Rehab" "Sexual Addiction", "Marriage Counseling"???

You get the idea. Turn the short-term scandal $$$ into a long-term 12-Step MFA site.

That's probably what Mr. Woods is going to do himself. Dedicate a few million to a "Family Values" charity.

What you're doing is event marketing so don't overlook the fact that it will die out pretty soon. The best thing you can do is give it a little push to become viral. I mean social bookmarking and video sites.

In terms of ROI I think the best thing you could do is try to get it on diggs first page. There are specialized services on different i marketing forums that can help you with this.

As for monetization. Pretty easy. You can put up a gateway to lock the video or an old style poll mail submit.
