I finally figured it out!

Couple of issues here...

1. This was a problem that Howie Schwartz would call a $20 problem.

Meaning, If you get stuck on something, pay somebody $20 to do it for you.

Good advice but..

I'm stubborn to a fault. If there's something I want to do I don't give up easily. It will drive me CRAZY until I get it.

2. I was using a piece of software that wasn't doing what it was supposed to do.
This especially drives me nuts! When something doesn't do what it logically should. When 2 + 2 doesn't = 4.

I played with it for hours.

I found one way around it but it wasn't the way I wanted to do it.

Long story short...

I found a way to do what I wanted to do that fit in logically with I wanted to do.

But, there's a sub-lesson here.

I took a class years ago about self improvement.
The first question my coach would ask me when I got stuck was " did you read a word today you didn't understand?"

Now, that may seem like a silly, trivial question.

But, here's the thing.

When you have an unresolved issue in your mind it creates what is know in computer programming as an "endless loop" in your mind.

You may not be conscious of it but it's there. In your sub-conscious, gumming up the works.

These "minor" un-resolved issues build up over time impeding your progress.

When I found the answer to my problem I felt exhilarated!
Like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

Now, I know many of you are probably saying "Great, I'm happy for you".

This is probably what one my friends would call one of my pointless stories.

But, the thing is, there are many issues in IM that you can just say "screw it!" I'll hire somebody to do it for me and be content with that and move on.

But, there are many things you need to get passed on your own in order to progress.

Just some food for thought here.

Your thoughts?

  • You first thought to pay the $20 to get it done, and get it done right is correct. But if you can work for a couple of bucks an hour and not mind it for the learning experience then more power to you.

Paying $20 to get it done was my last thought.

It was something that I could have had done in 1/2 an hour except for the glitch in the program I was using.

      But, that's the smaller point.

      It wasn't the learning experience.

      So, nevermind...

The endless loop idea is a good one. I agree. If you can't get something out of your head, you can't get something else in. You sometimes just need to figure something out for yourself.
