Blogger Versus Wordpress

Now, I have used both and for some reason I just hate Wordpress and love Blogger blogs.

I guess what I am asking is can I still have success using Blogger blogs.

If not I will have to bite the bullet and learn a lot more about WP

All I have ever done is post on WP but never uploaded to hosting or anything else. However thats for a different thread and will depend on the answers I get from this one.

Your online success has nothing to do with what tool you're using to deliver your content.

You can be successful with blogger, wordpress, a text editor, squidoo, facebook, twitter etc. etc......

It's what you do that makes all the difference rather than what tool you did it with.

That answer alone makes me feel better. I will watch a few more responses before asking my next question which is a little more indepth.

In answer to your next question - No, you don't need to have your own site hosted on a server compared to free hosting options - however, it does make sense to do it purely because your marketing efforts will be pointed towards building an asset that you control rather than working hard for something that Google, or Wordpress ultimately own.

I have no problem paying for hosting. Where my problem comes into play is uploading sites to hosting and stuff like that.

This may be one of the dumbest questions asked on here. Can you use Blogger blogs on your own hosting.

Most hosting resellers, Hostgator etc have a one button Wordpress installation nowadays., it's ridiculously simple, there's no technical hurdle to uploading your own content and installing self hosted blogs.

Re Blogger, pretty sure , unlike Wordpress, they only offer a self hosted version, could be wrong though, bit of Googling should answer that one for you.

Are you talking about self hosted versus hosted, ie Wordpress vs Blogger?

I've personally found easier SERPS success via hosted, predominantly as the big 3 are always going to give prevalance to trusted domains with history etc over a 1 day old Wordpress installation.

But long term , anything self hosted pays dividends in terms of control.

It's just way to easy for Blogger to turn around and remove your site for whatever reason they see fit.

If you've put in a lot of work in getting that site ranked well and a ton of content, it's a huge risk to see somebody else have full control of your work.

In terms of sucess there's no real difference in the platforms, It's even possible in the short term Blogger would win out but long term it's self hosted apps all the way for me.

The only time I use self hosted content is when running campaigns with very limited time appeal, for example "tiger woods apology" is a term and campaign worth running on a self hosted application.

You'll get quicker listings, no real setup time, no domain to purhcase etc. If you're playing the "hot topic of the day" type game, blogger etc can be full of win.

Mate, go for self hosted wordpress. You have
more control, and you are not at the peril of
their rules and "All of a sudden" page removals.

Ususally if I am trying to make a descision
between 2 things, I use this scientific service
    to help me choose.

As you can see...wordpress is the only logical choice.

    Take Care,

I'd take self hosted Wordpress over Blogger any day.

It's a breeze to install and configure.

My concern with Blogger and Wordpress is that they can shut down your site at will. I don't have any first hand experience with getting shutdown primarily because I have been too paranoid to try them after hearing the stories. Of course, that was a while ago.

I have thought about trying them. What are the things you can get away with on them. I'm not talking about anything black hat or anything, but what about affiliate links and things. I recently saw a video with someone demonstrating a product and they showed a Blogger site that they said was a year old and it had a direct affiliate link to a clickbank product. I also noticed that there were only 2 other posts on the blog. For some reason I didn't think you could do CB links and stuff from those sites. Were they just lucky, or is that fine?

        Good idea.

The easiest way is to just make sure you get hosting that has a Cpanel with 'Fantastico' (it's very common).

Then installing wordpress will just be a few clicks.

Also - get familiar with an ftp program just in case you need to ftp any new files or plugins. It's very easy and very much like moving files around on your computer - no more complicated than that once you are comfortable with your ftp program. There are lots of free ones - Google 'cute ftp' and 'leetch ftp'.

If you want to learn Wordpress, I highly recommend the book by our own Leanne King (WP Queen). It is huge, detailed, easy to understand, and specifically designed for internet marketers. It covers the all basic and advanced stuff with a focus on internet marketing needs. It also comes with walkthrough videos, and some free WP themes.

Wordpress For Internet Marketers <------Affiliate link

Wordpress For Internet Marketers <-----Non affiliate link

She also sells an advanced theme that she had specifically created for her (WPFlex) that makes customizing Wordpress amazingly fast and easy.

Blogger is terrific for instantaneous set up and practical features at the click of a mouse. You can get similar advantageous features at wordpress.com (The WPMU community...hosted and controlled by Wordpress).

But here's the problem with both of those plus Tyeppad and any others in the "group blog" category: Unlike a self hosted WP blog or site you have no control over any rules they may introduce and furthermore you have ZERO say or right to any appeal or legal challenge if they (Blogger or Wordpress.com) decide to shut you out and wipe your site. That's in their TOS when you sign up so thus there's zilch you could ever do about it.
This had happened to several people I know who have put 12 months or more into a niche blog and then had it wiped... with no chance of a database download or transfer,,, all files, images,..the lot wiped clean!

So if you're just getting into blogging as a hobby and not seeking to monetize then maybe its OK... but even so I would hate to put 6 or 12 months or more into a much impassioned hobby blog only to have it wiped.

Yes,... this is the exception to the rule but for my money its not a risk worth taking.

The other thing is that if you're setting up blogger.com or wordpress.com blogs as monetizing niches then you will have some inherant rank juice sucked away from using your keyword phrase in the URL because you'll always be tagging it on as a subdomain..such as www.myperfectniche.blogger.com

WordPress isnt hard to understand and work with,..and there are lots of cheap and even free WP hosting services where you can host your own domain and have ftp, cPanel and MySQL database access.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers, :-)

Blogger can shut down your site without notice any. All your hard work is then down the drain even. There are many people who lost their blogger blogs so be careful around certain subjects like casinos. A competitor could claim that you have violated their copy@R just to get you remove.
