What's With the Newbie Spammer Surge - Is the WF in a New MMO Ebook?

by tommygadget 32 replies
I have never seen so many posts from newbies that go something like this:

- great job
- good thread
- yes, that's great
- I'm rooting for you
- thanks for sharing
...

Does anyone else notice this trend or is it just me?

If up and coming newbies (me included) are getting value out of the warrior forum & being polite & positive what's the problem? I don't see it.

EDIT: MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online. Games such as World of Warcraft are MMO's.

Yeah, it sounds like people are trying too hard to get to their 30 post limit to post a WSO. People who purchase can see what kind of posts they have been leaving. If that is their goal it isn't hard to provide constructive posts to reach your 30 anyways.

There tends to be a number of replies of this nature as well in the War Room. Perhaps it is, as Zulfus said, a matter of politeness?

Before a poopstorm lands on my head, I followed these people to see and almost every single post was like this. So not only were they expressing their feelings, they had the exact same feelings across dozens of threads. Can you say copy and paste, not emote and swoon

I noticed it too, mostly on the thread that you started re making lots of wonga in 24hrs. I didn't think it was anything to do with getting post count up (I'm naive that way!), I thought it was because it was one of the top threads at the top of the front page, and these people were trying for a slice of the exposure. It was kind of obvious too, particularly after one or two posted to say that they couldn't wait for the outcome - after the time was up and you'd already made your money!

It's a shame really. It wasn't a bad thread until it got kind of spammy.

    Thanks for sharing

You know, you're right, that was annoying me. That wasn't what prompted me to post this, but yes, those posts did annoy me, especially since I took pains to point out that the results were in both on the first post and near the end. I also posted another post about my 800th thread so as not to clutter up the original and that got deleted, don't know why, it's a free ebook. Anyway, yes, good post, most informative, great going.

Many people are simply shy on the internet in general, and this is an aggressive forum.

Some people just don't like the negative criticism when they try to help.

Though the worst offenders tend to be newbies themselves.

      Best!

"wonga"? Damn, sounds kinky! I've never heard money called that before! heh. I didn't realize the post limit to do a wso was only 30. Heck, I'm over 100 and still don't quite feel ready to do my own product. Which almost certainly would be an ebook of some sort. But if I can't deliver value with it or like another member am never around to answer questions, its pretty pointless. One day though, I will do my own product. And I will have the WF collectively to thank for inspiration/learning/kicks in the pants.

    I luv you guys!

Could be any number of things, really (including spammy poop-heads, of course).

When I first joined here, being a newbie left me with very little of any substance to add to a thread, but I also wanted to show some love to those folks who shared something that was useful to me. I suspect some of my earlier posts may have been along these same lines...

So, it could be newbie-itis (benefit of the doubt and all).

I do think it is a wso issue. People are just trying to increase their posts count so they can either post a wso, or not have their wso scrutinized for low post count.

Shoot, it took me four years to get to the post count I have now. Compared to some people that is really low also. It is unfortunate, but some people will always abuse a good thing.

I'm just happy there is a venue where we can come chitchat and find great deals on a lots of awesome products. You just need to sift through the crap. But, there is gold in this Warrior Forum.

I know what you mean. I felt the same, and still do at times when there's a great post to which I've nothing more to contribute than a raving 'thank you'. Maybe the new 'Thanks' button will encourage people to express their gratitude without diluting the thread.

*adds wonga to a growing list of kinky practices... erm... words not to mention in international circles...

Yes, yes, Cindy, I am not talking about those inspired by a great thread. Let me be more specific. In a certain *cough* *cough* inspirational, well written, gripping *really hack cough* thread, someone posted their results. Certain people then posted things like "great idea, can't wait for the results" right under the results. Do you see where I'm going with this? The pattern was all over the place where newbies were posting statements that clearly showed they didn't read the original post that they were thanking people for. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding about what I really meant.

Aha! Now it becomes clear to me!

Maybe someone needs to start a rant about those doggone warriors who don't read closely enough (either in that oh-so-inspirational thread, or this one ).

        TomG -

Could you be referring to our latest spammer here - who is busy posting one liners in the WSO section as we speak?

Joined today - almost 50 posts today - and half are "look at my signature".

We've had a lot of them lately but that's partly because people are posting about them instead of reporting it with the "!" link. A lot of them seem to be saying "a friend at DP told me to come here' ...

On the old forum, they were nuked quickly by mods. Here we have to do it ourselves. I've already reported this one - a few more reports and he's history.

I also assumed you were refering to massive multiplayer online games lol.
Its just what newbies do when they enter a forum....leave useless posts.

Even if they would write meaningfull posts....they would still only get 1 up on their post count so I guess they rather fill up the post count and then start posting meaningfull stuff.

lol I instantly thought Massive Multiplayer Online too hehe, didn't feel like that made sense.

I didn't notice that many useless posts, but what else are newbies going to say? When you don't know much and you want more post counts, that's all you can do.

I SAID not the newbie who actually likes the post, the newbie who says "nice post about your golf swing" when we're talking about squirrel mating habits.

There are some folks who can and have racked up 1,000 posts in a very short time. I've been here for a couple of years and read more than I post.

Of course it's great being able to post something in addition to a thread and make it a better source of information.

    Still ... great thread!

This post I actually read all of the replies as I found it throughly entertaining to tell the truth. Also it was educational as I found out about the 30 post requirement to do a WSO which I hadn't known before. I'm probably almost ready to do a WSO so will have to check the rules.

I haven't actually taken notice of the number of posts I've made. I will after I write this one just out of curiosity.

I am relatively new here but definitely agree with you all about the spammer posts that add no value to the discussion.

    Regards,
    Chris
