Benefit of disabling comments on Youtube vids?

Would disabling commenting on youtube videos be bad for traffic? Now upon first visit, there may not be such a problem. But I guess comments keep people coming back, so that might fool with the number of views.

The deal is that I hate coming to my youtube channel with lots of people fighting on videos, so I was thinking of disabling comments on all of them. I know that you can approve comments, but if you've got a large number of videos that can be time consuming.

What do you think?

i personally think it is a double edged sword. On one hand you do not want someone posting stupid comments on your thread, but then you do not want to look like you are hiding anything by not having comments on your page. I would go through the time consuming process of approving my comments myself and I would leave the comments on. My .02

Comments are not always of the ranting and raving kind. I've gotten some excellent ideas for new videos or articles from commenters, and I think that it generally shows that you're more of an expert if you allow people to comment - in other words, you're ready to defend any criticism towards your point of view, video, product, whatever.

I would keep the comments on. It's a great way to generate interest for itself. I don't know if you know this but the comments are a huge part of why people stay and watch the entire video...that if you don't have that option they move to the next video! Don't worry if you get stupid people saying stupid things, if your video is good then the bad stuff won't effect it.

Yes, thinking of it as the types of viewers it will have, it would be mostly people actually looking for information, people already in the business, not many trash talkers on the youtube posts. I'm sure there's SOME but I've seen a number of videos.

This just popped into my head....that's why I'm sure it probably won't work haha. But leave a post somewhere saying they can comment on the video that is on your website. And, of course, post the vid on your website.

(sigh) I can't wait to get a camera so I can start video marketing and hopefully even trainings.

But if the "asking them to go to the video on your website or blog and post there" isn't feasible, I'd say leave the comments on. Absolutely.

A bit of food for thought ... YouTube is now the #2 search engine on the planet.

And one of the ways YouTube decides how high your videos show up in their search is the amount of interaction your videos create:

        • How many views
        • How many ratings
        • How many subscribers
        • And how many comments

So the more interaction your videos can create -- the more response they create -- the better chance your videos have of showing up in YouTube Search.

And part of that is letting people comment.

I have found both the dumbest, the most inane and the most passionately supportive comments on YouTube than any other outlet on the web. There are alot of "haters" on YouTube. In fact, most of the most viewed contributors on YouTube have created vids about them.

It kind of comes with the territory. Most folks who have benefited from YouTube Traffic that I know have decided the upside is worth some of the stuff people post.

I think any form of interaction brings another % of viewers returning. I agree that comments are getting to be just as important as views, whether it be a photo, a blog or in this case a video.

I have not done any youtube marketing yet. Can you choose to only publish comments that you want like wordpress ... or have you got to go in and delete the idiots?
