Feedback on a Mascot/Logo Design

This is not a promotion, just want feedback on a logo I am doing for an offline client.

What do yall think? Its the first mascot I've done in a while.

I'm thinking that the red text on the top pulls focus away from the character. Just cant nail down what color I should change it to.

In case anyone is wondering, I actually drew it by hand and then brought it into Photoshop to add color, text etc.

    Did your client ask for a cartoon-like logo? CPR is a serious topic, that's why I ask. Are they trying to make CPR seem more fun, or was the cartoon your idea? If it was your idea and they didn't ask for something lighthearted - no pun intended - then you might want to come up with a more serious style logo too.

    It's a nice image and all that, but if I were in your position I'd probably concentrate on a more serious style image unless they asked for cartoon style.

      Thanks Dennis. To answer your question, the cartoon (and his pose) was the client's idea.

      He described what he wanted in text as he couldnt draw it.

        In that case, it's pretty good. You'll get a lot of suggestions I'm sure, but most are just personal preferences. If you're looking for a different color for the top text, have you tried using the same blue as in the lower text?

        Otherwise it's pretty good as is, I'd probably just show it to the client and see what he thinks. He obviously has something in mind that he wants, and he'll know it when he sees it, so until you show him and find what he likes and doesn't like about it you won't really know where you stand. You could follow someone's suggestion here only to find it he doesn't like it, then you did that extra work for nothing.

          Thanks Dennis. I agree. Everyone's opinion is different. I have already sent it over for his review so we'll find out what he think tomorrow.

    I think it is too detailed. In my opinion a logo should be simple and anyone should be able to draw it from memory - your customers should recognize it instantly

    Line weight.

    Right now, it is all the same line thickness which makes it very, bland.

    this was just a quick google study in line weight, I didnt spend too much time looking, but I think it gets my point across.

    note the varying line thickness which adds to the presence of the figure.

    I actually did this without a tablet. I agree about the lineweights.

    I think if I get a tablet I can play around with line weights more to bring out some more depth.

    I am not sure about the title text - bendy text is my nemesis - if you need it do it on Illustrator not PS. The shadowing looks kinda naff (bad) too.

    Just want to make it better for you

    Ohh, and get rid of Arial black! Choose a font like Myriad Pro

    It's a pretty good one.

    Normally the client is going to decide. One of my friends is a web designer and sometimes clients decide to go with the ugliest logos as possible. It's just a matter of personal preference.

      lol Thanks. I am also a web designer and can relate to clients picking the UGLIEST and most non practical design over anything. It drives me NUTS!!
