Which CMS for Web Model Galleries and Why?

I am working on a website with possibilities for an article directory as well as a gallery for the promotion of models, actors, actresses and more and was wondering, if you were building the same type of site, what CMS would you use and why?

Xoops, Wordpress, Joomla, others? I am not adverse to learning curves and definitely open to suggestions.

Thanks

It's been a while since I've done anything intensive with Joomla, but my first thought is that I'd be leaning towards using it for a project like yours.

By the way I've not used Xoops or Drupal, but I've used both Wordpress and Joomla a LOT.

For me the general rule is that everything gets built on Wordpress, except for sites that will require specific relatively complex functionality.

Wordpress does have gallery management, and you could theoretically use it as an article directory, but I suspect you'll find that the latest and greatest Joomla extensions could provide greater functionality in this regard.

I would make the decision by first visiting here and checking on the gallery and article directory extensions: Home - Joomla! Extensions Directory

And then visiting here and comparing similar plugins: WordPress › WordPress Plugins

If it does turn out that you can do what you need using Wordpress, use it because it is much simpler and faster to operate.

However if you do find that there is significantly more sophisticated function offered by the latest Joomla extensions, it is probably worth the little extra time and effort.

Actually that is a very interesting observation but I have to agree about the many "limited" functions of word press. While they do make some pretty impressive sites and have some great potential, it just does not give me the freedom or the ability for expansion that I want.

As for Joomla, I already have about 7 different niche sites set up with Joomla but even with the community builder, I had to look at some other alternatives for what I want to do and am doing with some of my other web sites. It was this work that introduced me into a whole slew of different software scripts and CMS setups like Xoops and others. Unfortunately, at this point in time, I do not have the time to set up a lot of different sites to see which ones are better at what so I figured I would ask around.

I totally agree with you about Joomla though and will continue to love it as an operating system ... just that it is not exactly what I am looking for with this particular project.

    Thanks!

You know the other thing you can consider, given that these are open source CMSs (easier said than written) is having a coder expand on the system you already prefer.

If you are comfortable with a given system and you can find extensions / plugins that are close to what you want and are also open source themselves, you may find it a relatively straight forward task to head to Scriptlance and have someone tweak it to suit your needs.

In the end it might just save you more time and make your life easier, assuming of course that you have a solid coder do the job.

I may be doing that in the near future but right now what I am doing is expanding my base a bit at a time here locally. Once I get everything in play, I will be hiring web designers, template builders and even some coders if I can find ones good enough to work in house. For right now, testing while I am growing but definitely considering the possibilities with coding.
