Squidoo is just like any other platform to offer your product/service/offer. If you can't make your offer convert on another platform like blogger, wordpress.com, wordpress.org etc...then I doubt you can make it convert on Squidoo.

But there are people who do present their offers on Squidoo and make good incomes from those.

I would personally get my own domain name, hosting and put together a wordpress.org site. This way you have 100% control over your web property.

With Squidoo, HubPages, Weebly etc, you never know when they can close you down, and potentially cutting off any income you are making from Squidoo.

I use Squidoo as an overall backlinking strategy for my main ranking vehicle which is the wordpress.org site.

    Hope that helps.

I started giving service on lens making too because it is very profitable. People are making alot of money through my lens.
Therefore i would highly suggest that you should go for it.

      I hope this helps!

          Charles,

First, nothing good happens fast on the Internet. But you know that, right?

Second, I think you need search engine help to get a lot of visitors on Squidoo. Yes, they have a nice community, but there are not enough people there to make the counters hum yet.

Third, don't believe everything you read on the Internet. But you knew that, right?

Definitely agree with owning and controlling your own sites / domains

Its worth the hassle of figuring out how to do it

Just to clarify....if you make a wordpress blog on a MU or multi-user platform like wordpress.org you don't own it and they can take you out. just like a blogger blog on Google's servers.

To have control you have to install the blog script on your own hosting.

    Hi guys

a squidoo lens is a great way to make money and especially for those that dont have any money to put down.

Though there are that many bad ones you need to make sure yours is good it stands out and that you bring lots of traffic back to it.

    kind regards

When you set up your lens, do you try to make your lens address your domain address, or do you try to make it a keyword address?

Example if I were making a lens about "dog doo doo" and I owned the website dogdoodoo .com, which would be what you're trying to accomplish with a lens?

    squdioo .com/dogdoodoo
    or
    squidoo .com/keyword

Or, is the object just to make a lens about dogs in general, using keyword content, with a link going back to dogdoodoo .com, and the squidoo web address of the name doesn't matter?

Use lenses very much like hubpages with what I like to call 'Disposable' articles, ones that are spun specifically for the purpose of publishing many times over. That way your investment is low if and when they shut down your lenses because of blatent marketing purposes.

I really love Squidoo, imo it is the best web2.0 site out there, simply because of the sheer ease of the system and the multi functions it can perform and how easily integrated it is with other systems.

I also recently read that Squidoo is becomming similar to DMOZ in terms of being one of the ultimate places to get uour link online... I wouldn't go that far to be honest, but it is certainly very popular, it gives decent backlinks... it works

    Hey Ross,

Squidoo was the first platform I used when I got started nearly a year ago. I knew nothing and because of it's simple structure and very helpful forum members I was able to learn about IM without paying a cent.

I agree, owning your site is a definate but I think if you are a newbie then dabbling with Squidoo for a while will give you a great foundation for the industry.

I can now knock up lenses very quickly and because Google loves Squidoo lenses are great for backlinking. In time you find that you can make some money with lenses, especially if you have many of them.

Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Squidoo has worked great for me, it is very easy and quick to throw up a lense that looks professional, and they rank highly in google with little backlinking in my experience. I do tend to notice that old lenses rank much better, so I tend to build a lends but not focus too much effort on it, then let it sit for a couple months, then come back and start building links etc.

I love Squidoo & have since day 1 with them. It's a great place to test new niches and ideas and you can't beat the PR and visitors that you get on your lenses.

I find that I get just as many affiliate commissions on a lens as I do on my own sites for the same items.

Last year one of my lenses got the attention of book publishers, news magazine shows, a movie studio, a documentary company and a magazine. I don't think that, this would have happened if the same content was on my own site.

Itis a nice question and you know what I am also new as you in squidoo because I have never tried it before but soon I will jump into it and thanks for creating the post so I can collect some tips and ideas from our awesome community

As far as I know people do make lots of money with squidoo basically from adsense and other people use squidoo for back linking and as well as traffic from squidoo to their website which is very great idea to start. I know some people who just do squidoo and keep on creating lens after lens like doing blogging but the main difference from own blog and squidoo lens is that the article what you write for squidoo it belongs to them via you and in your blog it belongs to you and your are the owner of it

But squidoo have high page rank than your initial blog so now you can understand how it works and what to do.

I hope you like it and it will help you to understand Thanks
    Alam

That's a bit long. It typically takes me around 3 days to get indexed. Did you ping your site (pingler.com, etc)? It's also very fast if you have some back links to the lens from social bookmarking (Digg works best for me) and article sites (Ezinearticles, Goarticles; might take a day or 2 longer though until you get your articles approved).

In fact I have ezine article linked to it (got it approved last Friday I think).
Also did some pinging and created a lot of backlinks using scraper.
Is it possible that I did too many backlinks at once and the lens was banned by Google? I have no idea if it can be banned

I think 30-60 according to scrapebox report. Hard to tell real numbers. And they don't become visible to Google all at once I think.

Yes I am in favor of registering a domain name and then you are in control. I do use squidoo but mainly just to link to my sites. I would always suggest to anyone using squidoo or hubpages or any blogging platform read the terms of service first and stick to the guidelines. That way you will not be shut down.

I have a LOT of Squidoo lenses because I jumped on the boat early. I think Google liked Squidoo much more over a year ago. There was a falling out and Google diminished the Squidoo rankings.

Only one of my Squidoo lenses gets great traffic. Four or five get ok traffic. The rest don't get much traffic at all.

Backlinks? Well, yes, I guess you get them but I'm not sure how much they help you from Squidoo. I hear people talk about backlinks, but show me the proof please. Is there any proof out there?

I use Squidoo as well. I love it. I have one lens that does convert highly, while I certainly can't retire of it, I sure can pay the utility bill off of that one lens and it is not linked to a site. It is linked directly to a domain with a hoplink from clickbank. I am still learning, but I follow the same steps every time I create a lens. I submit an article to Ezine, put up a few free adds, and bookmark it with several sites, and ping it. I also add lots and lots of tags.

Technical aspects are not my strong point, so I like Squidoo as it is simple. Now I finally have my own site as of this week. Took me long enough.

this helps a lot. I've had four lenses up for a couple of months now (revolving around 1 clickbank product). I've gotten zip from it, but at the same time, I wasn't sure if I was doing "things" correctly to try and get traffic and backlinks. Is there anything you do to the lens on a regular basis after having done the methods you talk about?

I used Squidoo quite a bit when I first started out and it was one of the first ways I started making money. They are very easy to create and they usually do well in the serp's.

However, they've since then lost some of their Google juice and they are stricter on their guidelines about promoting certain affiliate products.

I only use them for back-links pretty much now.
