Why So Many Dang Aussies?

by kottke 30 replies
Alright, I'm a noobie. I can't help but notice all of the dang Aussies (no offense Aussies, just kidding around) that are involved in internet marketing. Andrew Hansen, Caroline Middlebrook, Ed Dale, etc. Why are there so many Aussies?!!! Are they masters of IM or what? I feel like I'm watching a late night episode of The Crocodile Hunter when I watch their videos!!

P.S. Any Aussies that would like to give me IM advice are welcome to do so !

    Howdy,

I think generally we are quick to adopt new trends and give things a good go.

Its a short answer but hopefully succinct

Maybe its because we are so good at this stuff. LOL

The truth is Aussies adapt very well to technology and while we are a bit behind as far as having professional IM meetings etc there is a growing number of marketers here in Australia.

I have been doing it now for 10 years and when I started there were very few her and our main market was the US. The the UK picked it up about the same time as the Aussies.

While there are some good marketers over here we still lag behind as our banking system here is still way behind in knowing the market.

Hahahahaha.....Nice Pete....maybe you'd like to give me an extremely reduced priced Brute Force SEO membership since I've lost a buttload of $ in the stock market over the past few weeks! I'm already paying for Firepow. I'd love to join Brute Force but I don't think I can swing it right now, especially with my boss.....I mean wife checking on my expenses!

Hey! Leave it out cobber. There are poms in here who woke up this morning to find it raining heaps - wetter than Neville Bartos's dress sense. It's 10am and it's still dark and the barbie (that has barely had a chance to see daylight all summer) has been blown away in the night.

Just to add to the pain we've got re-runs showing on the box of 'a new life in Oz'.

Just over three years to go for me, things will be sorted out here and then I'm launching the landing craft, landing at Scarborough beach, nipping down to the Cott for the sunday sesh and then taking over Hilarys for the poms.

And there will be NO whingeing from us then.

And until then you can watch reruns of neighbours and the Australian team thrashing you at cricket on the tellie.

Awesome? Never heard an Aussie say that before.

Methinks you're spending too much time around the Yanks, Colleen.

Was that the same show that was playing about 200 years ago?

It's probably changed a bit since then.

We've got fairly high levels of Internet/broadband access, an open-minded entrepreneurial nature, and beaches that beg you to quit your job and work from home.

Plus we're ridiculously good looking, outgoing and not afraid to speak our minds -- which is why you see so many on the forums

    That is so funny Kyle!

At least you chose a good looking stock photo for your avatar.

We Aussies are more outward looking than some countries because we have such an international bias. We are on the 'other' side of the globe so we always look outside for influences.

We have US and UK TV plus a huge import of people and items.

If the US catches a cold we sneeze.

And the weather is great here.

People in the UK should not watch the video I just posted to my blog because the weather here may distress you...

It's because we do almost EVERYTHING the US do lol....just a few years later he he..

The US to AUS dollar is something to celebrate though and may be getting some more Aussies involved... lets just hope it stays low, so our income stays higher!

Yes we're masters of Internet Marketing as you suggest mate.

And the reason is that hanging upside down all the time living down under means more blood rushes to our head...so we think MUCH faster than you yanks.

"I feel like I'm watching a late night episode of The Crocodile Hunter when I watch their videos!!"

Yeh except in the internet marketing world we're not dumb enough to play with stingrays!

You'll never hear US say "Crikey she's a little beaudy of a stingray!"

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh

P.S. My beautiful wife is from the US so you should know that we're not content with taking your money. We're stealing your women too!

But you should really expect that. We did start out as convicts.

I had a friend who was from Jamacia and finally applied for his Australian citizenship.

One of the questions they asked him was "Do you have a criminal record?"

He replied "I didn't think you still needed one!"

Its true, there are many Aussies in here and that's because we are so well educated and can find our way around difficult technology. We are also good inventors and our mates do particularly well in films, television, and just about everything else you can name. But we don't brag about it.

Who wants to leave? We are not fools you know.

And this is the exact reason why internet marketers from across the ditch can't stay out of here either!

I love Aussie, I just come over here and look after Aussies houses! The wages are better, people have more money, so they spend more, which means they they holiday year round. This works great for me, I've lived rent free in Aussie for 9 months out of the last year and a half. IM and housesitting, this is the life!

Wow Lesley...that's a real eye opener!

I didn't know they let you have sheep when you're house sitting?

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

P.S. You'd have to expect a sheep joke being a New Zealander posting on an Aussie based thread.

Fortunately for you I didn't ask you to say "fish and chips".

There are a metric tonne of us around and for most of the reasons already stated.

I started late, about mid 2005 and still love it. I also ended up marrying a Yank and ended up moving to the states.

But it's good to catch up with the Aussies and see what's going on. I still think that news.com.au is one of the better news sites on the interweb.

    Cheers,
    Shane

      What's the "interweb"?

Is that like that internet thing people have been talking about lately?

P.S. Can't work out why you would go from Australia to the USA unless you were living in Sydney or something?
