Caffeinated Content & Duplicate Content

I know there's no duplicate content penalty for posting the same text as other websites, but am I right in thinking there is for posting the same text on one website? If so, does caffeinated content make sure it doesn't post the same articles/yahoo answers twice?

Thanks,
Chris

    Hi Chris,

Yes, Caffeinated Content does prevent reposting of duplicated content. If you turn on debug mode via the WP settings page, and then run the CC upload of new content, you'll probably see it reject some entries - this is the de-duplication running.

Regarding the wider question of duplicate text on the same website, I think there can be some penalty, but again it depends on how much similarity there is between multiple pages. I know for definite there are some WP plugins to prevent this similarity across the normal pages vs individual posts vs archives, etc. It's not an area I'm strong on though, so perhaps someone else might chip in?

    Regards,
    Andy

Attention... Personal opinion and open to being very wrong...

The dup content 'penalty' was created to prevent the abuse of re-posted optimized content in order to fool the bots into giving the page/site higher results. As the bots become more savvy, I think you will see different pathways to the same content recognized more. I also think that the magic 70% unique rule will become more flexible (both ways).

In another thread, Allen was quoted as saying buying a re-hashed book on making money was OK because maybe it was written in a way you could understand where as the 1st book escaped your understanding (for whatever reason). I think (notice the 'think' part) that re-writing a post that is very similar but different enough that a group of people might be able to connect with it where as they were unable to 'get' the original post will be more & more 'acceptable' as long as it is not a blatant attempt to rank. (IE: the posts are real content, not optimized for 'keywords')

    Well, If I were king....
