going to grab a new monitor today, have a 19" atm but not sure what a good size would be. Im thinking 23/24? Ive seen the really big widescreen monitors and I think that they are just too big.

What do you recommend?

I would recommend going with the 24" widescreen, my friend uses one of those, damn beautiful.

I say, "The bigger the better!"
But it really comes down to your personal preference.
I am sure they will have some working display models set up for you to compare.
When shopping for anything new to add to your equipment, don't skimp.
It will be around a good long time and with technology changing daily, make sure your purchase is as close to the "newest" and best out there.
Do your homework and be patient with any buy.
Very good question today and I hope everything everyone has posted
      helps you in your decision.

      All the best,

  • I personally use a single 24" and not 2 screens. I like being able to easily fit 2 complete pages on the screen at the same time.

One thing to consider... if you have older hardware make sure your video card will drive your new monitor at full resolution.

Anything larger than 24" might be great for movies but becomes difficult for work as you end up turning your head a lot to go from window to window.

If you are not too concerned about multiple full size windows there is no reason not to look at 22" screens.

Multiple screens can get rather annoying at times and it usually means you have to upgrade your graphics card in order to run both monitors, it isn't worth the money.

I agree in most cases. I run 2 23" samsungs and I got a local guy who just wanted some quick cash to hook it all up. I think I paid $220 for a box built by him. So its all in what you want but its not crazy money.

    60". The bigger the better.

Wish I had one, though. :-)

  • A lot depends on what you plan to do with it.

If you plan to run 2 windows open at the same time,
then by all means, go for the 24".

I do a lot of graphics and wish I had a 24 instead of
    the 19".

Another thing to keep in mind is quality. Cheaper monitors
don't display colors as well as the better ones, so if you're
doing graphics, be mindful of your budget.

If you are limited as to how much money you can spend,
and you do graphics, or even video, you might be better off
to go with a smaller monitor, but higher quality to stay
    in your price range.

Just my thoughts based on experience.

I bought a 24" widescreen monitor about a week ago. I've never really liked widescreen but I have to say it's growing on me. I'd recommend that as a good size. Works great for watching video as well as more productive stuff.

I think InternetMarketingIQ makes a very good point that with a monitor much larger than 24" you're probably going to have to start turning your head from side to side to see everything on the screen. I imagine that could get annoying.

Thats all! From the feedback Im going with 24" will check them out but yeah my main concern is moving my head side to side ( sounds lazy) but yes it would be annoying.

Lol it is kind of annoying if you have a little bit of a deeper desk then you can set them back further and its not a bad. It seems as though you have made your choice good for you.

Thanks for the suggestions I got the Asus VE246H, 24" it is very nice - much bigger than the 19, infact every website has extra space on either sides now. Happy with it!

I would recommend going for a very high quality 24" monitor or a 27" monitor, right now I am using both a 27" iMac and its great to work with as you have enough space to lay out several different windows within one another and at the side of me I also work with a 24" windows computer which again is great.

I myself have 2x 30" and 2x 26" all widescreen, 2 monitors per PC. My desk is sort of shaped like a U, and this type of configuration gives me maximum work output, if not a slight tan!

To echo some of the posts above, if you're just using 1 screen then a 24" widescreen will be very handy for viewing 2 documents at once.

I actually have a 24" and a 19" linked up which is great, if a little over the top!!

One thing I forgot to mention about having 30" monitors is that your neck will hurt from having to physically move your body just to look between one side of the monitor and another.

Based on speaking with my friends, this apparently happens quite often to people who move to the massive monitors. After about a year or so you end up moving your eyes to the even further sides of your head to view the monitor, but this, at least initially, is very unnatural feeling.

So keep that in mind, if you go the 30" route, your neck will hurt from having to move it constantly just to see the huge monitor.

      Bigger is better.

      22" minimum.
      24" imac is beautiful.

Run dual screen and your productivity will increase. Most graphics cards should be able to do that natively now, even on the low end notebooks. If not then its a good excuse to upgrade you PC/MAC as well!

you can just do more and see more, more of the time!
