I'm trying to grow my online business and I've got all kinds of ideas, domains have been bought, etc. BUT, I'm also building an off line court reporting business which seems to have really taken off and taken a lot of my time.

I've seen a lot of people talk about having virtual assistants. Where do you go to hire one of these? What's the screen process? About how much do they cost for 40/hrs week.

Thanks in advance for the information!

They specialize exactly for your requirements. You get your own dedicated person. You train him over any Instant Messanger. Skype for example.

They learn like sponges. Honest like priests.

40h, I'd say will be about US600 per month.

Do yourself a favor...Hire someone local to you, pay them minimum wage, and install VPN on their computer.

We have a couple of people that work outside of the office, and we were using online VA's for a while, but in the end, the "low cost" didn't justify going through 5 or 10 people to find the right one.

Instead, you can interview someone, try them out, and train them to do what you want in person.

If you plan to outsource your daily jobs you can try Elance for content and Odesk for virtual assistant. You can hire virtual assistants from ODesk for link building . . . really inexpensive.

Hate to break it to you but I've heard nasty rumors against Odesk. A lot of people keep saying that the service is really bad and your VA doesn't reply to any of your emails. You may want to check it out some more.

That's not always the case. I've just finished an assignment with a VA I found on Odesk, and about three times a day she would email me "I'm finished, what do you want me to do". I guess like anything, there's good and there's not so good.

I've used Freelancer.com. There's thousands of freelancers registered there. They have escrow payment to insure both the buyer and the freelancer.

There's just one project where I hired a freelancer which failed. He didn't get his money after a dispute thru the site. In other words... you're pretty safe hiring thru that site.

Take a look at IVAA.org. This is the trade association for Virtual Assistants and they have a robust membership directory and RFP system. If you want to work with a real professional and create a long term relationship then I'd suggest IVAA.org.

    Hi guys

i cant believe i am saying this but i hired some staff last month on odesk.com and they are amazing and cost an amazing $0.80 an hour. You can hire as many staff as you like on there, view their work diary to make they have done what you have asked and you pay them a week behind on a thursday for what they did the previous week. You can also hire someone for less than $5 to do your months angelas packets.

    kind regards

    Hey SoEasyMoney,

if your username describes yourself you can hire anyone!

To be honest I rather go for a real-life assistant. The more a business grows, the more need for face-to-face contact. I don't like wasting time on VA's that don't even understand what 'article submission' is.

There are exceptions to the rule, since many university-level students from India, China, etc work online, but I've yet to find myself a team of competent people on the web.

Also, I remember a marketer who used to offer an 'internship'. In return for step-by-step advice, you had to perform those steps yourself. Every five 'homework' assignments completed got you a reward.

That way he got about 500 people working on his online empire. One more than the other of course.
