WMV files converting to FLV files? looks bad quality

Dude, man, dude... I have had a heck of a time converting WMV files into FLV files that look good. With gotowebinar.com it spits it out as a WMV file. On the inside of the private area of my membership site, I need the files to be in FLV.

I"ve tried Adobe Premier, Camtasia, and another converting software I found online, and they all look like crap. So, I'm taking a shot in the dark here that some Warrior has also ran into this issue.

The inside of the member's area is using wishlist/wordpress for content mgmt.

Note* I suck at technical stuff.

Anyway... let me know if you know

And MUCH appreciated if so

Eric

    Hi Eric,

Last night I converted a GotoMeeting WMV file to FLV using the "AVS Video Converter":

AVS Video Converter - a universal AVI to MPEG Converter, AVI to DVD Converter.

Worked great for me . . . the FLV file was pretty large (240 MB), but that's probably because it was 73 minutes of a 1024 x 768 screen capture (with audio).

I think the software is free (it's been too long since I got it, so I'm not certain).

    Hope this helps!

    Paul

These sorts of conversion issues generally have
to do primarily with poor settings.

Free FLV converters run on older, inferior codecs
too. The better codecs are proprietary and
    unavailable in free software.

Generally with screen-cap videos you need to
look at reducing the frame rate. While this
helps reduce file size, it also helps get a file that
will stream well at a larger frame size. In any
case, when you go above 600x800 px you are
asking for streaming problems. If you captured
your video at big dimensions you can render
it smaller, but this usually degrades the picture
in some way and with screen capture may make
text very hard to read. If you such a file, say
1200x900 px, you can re-render it smaller
or you can "crop" it with something like XVid4PSP
so you get a "window" with the relevant stuff that
needs to be there. This way you can render the
"window" at its full size and text is not degraded
and remains both full-size and legible.

For screen-cap videos rendering the video to .FLV
should be at a kbps in the flv converter somewhere
between 120-220. 220 yields a better quality image
and also a larger file. The real trick is finding the
setting that strikes a compromise between smooth
    streaming and good video appearance.
